Chapter 1167: Selling Out the Deceitful Fox
Chapter 1167: Selling Out the Deceitful Fox
"I don’t like riddles. Let’s be clear about our cooperation." Fire Phoenix said loudly, looking at both the Third Elder and the Fourth Elder. She was very clear about the intentions of the two Elders, but acted unaware, waiting for them to speak up. She had anticipated this so-called cooperation; it was exactly what she had discussed with Ye Fan.
The two Elders seeking her cooperation was out of necessity due to their grand scheme, so she went along with it easily.
"Since you are so straightforward, I won’t hide anything." The Third Elder said, "We want to find out from you where Deceitful Fox is hiding. I believe, given your current situation with Deceitful Fox, you should know where he is, right?"
"I do!" Fire Phoenix replied straightforwardly.
The Third Elder and the Fourth Elder’s eyes lit up; those two words made them quite excited.
This was their biggest concern. If Fire Phoenix didn’t know, it would have been difficult, and there would be no need for cooperation.
"Can you tell us the hiding place of Deceitful Fox?" The Third Elder asked hopefully.
"Wishful thinking. Why should I tell you?" Fire Phoenix scoffed.
"You’ve already fallen out with Deceitful Fox and Butcher. If you tell us where Deceitful Fox is, we can deal with him, and you and Butcher can take the opportunity to strengthen your forces. With our help in eliminating Deceitful Fox as an enemy, why not?" The Fourth Elder said with a smile.
"That sounds better than it is. You were defeated at the Blood Wolf Base and realized my capabilities. Now that you can’t beat me, you want to fool me?" Fire Phoenix chuckled nonchalantly. "True, I am enemies with Deceitful Fox, but Sky Net is an even greater enemy. How I fight with Deceitful Fox is internal, but when facing a common enemy like Sky Net, cooperation is the best option. To watch from the sidelines and reveal Deceitful Fox’s whereabouts for you to deal with him—are your brains made of paste? Haven’t you heard of ’to lose is to suffer’?"
Fire Phoenix was blunt, and her analysis earned the genuine respect of both the Third Elder and the Fourth Elder.
They had to admit that Fire Phoenix’s words made sense.
If Fire Phoenix hadn’t shown this level of shrewdness, the Third Elder and the Fourth Elder would have been suspicious.
The two Elders naturally had backup plans; they couldn’t rely on just one tactic. Having come to negotiate with Fire Phoenix, they were well-prepared.
"Your concerns are valid. Since this is a cooperation, we naturally want to eliminate all your worries so you won’t have any misgivings." The Third Elder began, "Here’s our proposal. We want to cooperate, which makes us allies. We’ll sign an ally agreement of non-aggression. Our target is Deceitful Fox, not you. Once we eliminate Deceitful Fox, we can provide you with help. Whatever you want to do, we’ll try our best to fulfill your wishes as a sign of our sincerity."
"On the strength of a mere paper agreement, you claim sincerity? A piece of paper holds no binding power; it can be torn at any time. It’s useless. You don’t really think that a paper agreement would make me cooperate with you, do you?" Fire Phoenix sneered.
"Sky Net keeps its promises and won’t deceive with empty words. The agreement will bear our signatures, and if word gets out, it would tarnish both Sky Net’s reputation and ours. Sky Net wouldn’t do something so disgraceful." The Third Elder assured, "Choosing to cooperate with you, Sky Net has given it careful thought and definitely won’t deceive anyone."
"Sky Net is full of integrity with no need to deceive you, and we are also trustworthy people. Why would we lie to you?" The Fourth Elder said sincerely. "We approach you with such sincerity. Can’t you see it? Shouldn’t there be some degree of trust between people?"
The Third Elder and the Fourth Elder performed convincingly, clearly investing effort to gain Fire Phoenix’s trust.
They took great pains to persuade her with emotion and reason, saying all the right things.
Can their words be trusted?
The answer is no; it’s just their way to gain Fire Phoenix’s approval, spouting nonsense to manipulate her.
But Fire Phoenix is not so easily fooled.
"You really think I should believe in your idle promises? Haha, it’s ridiculous. You haven’t shown any real benefit, yet you expect to catch a white wolf empty-handed. Are you too naive or just playing dumb, thinking I’m that easy to deceive?" Fire Phoenix said, displeased.
"Please forgive us, our sincerity is genuine without any pretense. Since you are open to cooperation, adding some benefit would be just right on the basis of friendship." The Third Elder said with a deep smile: "What benefits do you desire?"
"I want the four major bases occupied by Sky Net." Fire Phoenix replied straightforwardly.
"Wishful thinking! That’s pure fantasy. The bases were seized with immense effort. We can’t just hand them over." The Third Elder was instantly angered; Fire Phoenix’s demand left him speechless.
"See? Exposed your true colors, didn’t you? So much for sincerity, devoid of pretense. Once it involves your interests, your real nature shows. With that, there’s nothing more to cooperate on." Fire Phoenix mocked.
"Lady Fire Phoenix, please calm your anger. The Third Elder spoke in haste." The Fourth Elder intervened to mediate, smiling warmly. "You know, the four bases we occupy are confidential key points, each of utmost importance and not to be lost. Since you mentioned it, we must consider it seriously. But this matter is indeed out of our hands. The four bases are too important; we need time to report to the Elders."
"If you can’t decide, then leave. If you want to negotiate with me, send someone who can make decisions. Do I have endless time to waste with you?" Fire Phoenix mocked openly.
"Do you really want the bases?" The Third Elder asked earnestly, suppressing his discontent.
"Of course," Fire Phoenix said with a smile. "Can you make the decision?"
"I can’t decide alone; it requires the Elders’ ruling." The Third Elder said.
"Then what’s there to discuss with you." Fire Phoenix said impatiently.
The Third Elder said, "However, since cooperation is contingent on the bases, I can consult the organization. But giving you all four bases is unrealistic, so don’t demand too much. State your bottom line."
"If I can get two of the four bases, then we will cooperate. I’ll tell you where Deceitful Fox is. This deal is worth it; selling Deceitful Fox to you for two bases is a fair price for you." Fire Phoenix said.
"Alright, await our response!" The Third Elder didn’t say more.
