My Mother is the Villain

Chapter 10: Lightning

Chapter 10: Lightning

The lightning radiating from Victor gradually turned into a brilliant golden color, exuding an overwhelming sense of majesty.

Each bolt roared like an enraged lion.

A single strand alone could destroy a hundred Saint-Class lightning strikes.

Without the Diamond Skeleton, Victor wouldn’t have been able to tame such terrifying lightning in the first place.

"Young Master, let us head to the Lightning Hall now to obtain the Heavenly Lightning Merit Law," the Sect Master said.

"Of course..." Victor nodded with a faint smile.

The Lightning Hall resembled a grand palace, guarded by a thousand lightning soldiers—puppets formed from pure energy.

For the Heavenly Lightning Sect, this was their deepest foundation.

The Heavenly Lightning Merit Law was not a legacy from their World Monarchs. Instead, the sect’s founder had obtained it from an unknown source. Since then, it had produced three powerful World Monarchs.

With it, the sect had continued to dominate.

Not every disciple was qualified to learn it. Only those with exceptional talent and great contributions were given the opportunity.

Even then, they were not granted the full version—at most 30%, with more unlocked only if they proved worthy.

Guests like Victor and Alisa normally wouldn’t receive the full version either—but Victor would definitely protest if that happened.

Inside the palace was a rotating hall filled with countless shelves containing books.

They held Techniques, Merit Laws, comprehension records from elders, and even insights left behind by World Monarchs—treasures that could greatly ease one’s cultivation.

Many young disciples were reading seriously.

When the Sect Master arrived, they all stopped to bow respectfully.

However, their displeasure was obvious when they saw Victor.

Alisa and Liam had already arrived.

Alisa’s aura seemed slightly different now—she had clearly grown stronger and gained a new power.

From there, they entered a locked door leading to a long corridor that ended in a small secret chamber.

Inside, Victor saw several stone tablets covered in blue inscriptions he couldn’t read.

The characters writhed like worms in a nest.

A clan or sect certainly has things like that which can provide a continuous supply of Merit Laws, not just a book that’s only for one person.

"Young Master, place your hand here," the Sect Master instructed, pointing at the central tablet.

Victor complied.

Immediately, the inscriptions flowed into his hand and surged toward his forehead.

They continued until not a single character remained—yet in the next instant, new inscriptions appeared on the tablet again.

DING!

(You have obtained the Heavenly Lightning Merit Law, a Heaven-Class technique that allows you to merge with all types of Heavenly Lightning. For every 10% mastery, you can merge with one additional Heavenly Lightning. This Merit Law also allows you to easily—or even instantly—master all lightning techniques!)

Victor received the notification.

It was the complete version.

Heavenly Lightning (Heaven Class >0%)

What was called Heavenly Lightning was not the same as the lightning one possessed through Power Affinity.

It was lightning born directly from the heavens themselves—existing in many different forms.

Each one was immensely powerful, at least on par with Heaven-Class lightning.

When multiple types fused together, their power became unimaginable.

Of course, obtaining Heavenly Lightning was far from easy.

It was a rare treasure, fought over by countless experts.

The Heavenly Lightning Sect possessed methods to fuse it directly into the body, while others could at best integrate it into weapons or artifacts.

Even within the sect, very few truly possessed Heavenly Lightning.

Senior disciples like Liam might not even have one.

Yet the Heavenly Lightning Merit Law was still highly sought after.

Because mastering it made learning any lightning technique easy—absurdly easy.

Victor stepped back, giving Alisa her turn.

But this time, there was a difference.

Not all the inscriptions entered her body.

She had expected this and remained calm.

"Young Master, we have prepared a residence for you," the Sect Master said. "However, since usually only one member of the Russell Clan visits, we prepared only one residence. Would you mind if Miss Alisa stays with you?"

Alisa immediately felt awkward.

That residence should have been hers—she was the official guest of the Russell Clan.

Why did it sound like she would be the one staying with Victor instead?

She feared being humiliated if Victor refused.

But to her surprise, the boy simply nodded.

"No problem," he said with a faint smile.

Alisa noticed him glance at her briefly—making her feel strangely uncomfortable.

---

"Come, I will take you there. Later, the elders—and sometimes even I—will provide guidance. You may attend as if you were our disciples."

"Sect Master, perhaps later. I’d like to read here first," Victor replied.

"Oh? It seems your enthusiasm for learning is quite high. Of course... Liam, accompany them and escort them later," the Sect Master laughed before leaving and locking the corridor.

They returned to the library.

"Mr. Lightning, I’m actually not comfortable having others around while I read," Victor said to Liam.

Liam froze.

Emma also paused.

The surrounding disciples, with their sharp hearing, clearly caught those words.

Victor glanced at Emma when Liam didn’t respond.

"Ahem..." Emma cleared her throat.

"Liam, you are surely senior to everyone here. Please assist my Young Master. I don’t believe this has never happened before. The elders must have done the same when they wanted privacy."

"Emma... only the Ancestors have ever done that," Liam replied bitterly.

"Oh? Didn’t your Grand Ancestor even grant my Young Master the Heavenly Lightning Spirit?" Emma countered.

Liam fell silent.

If even the Grand Ancestor didn’t object, what was a temporary closure of the library?

An hour or two—what was the problem?

Finally, Liam nodded.

"My junior brothers and sisters..." he called out.

"Senior Liam, what is this?" someone immediately protested.

"This is a public place! We can come and go as we please!"

"We’ve contributed so much to the sect—why can an outsider drive us out?!"

A wave of protests erupted.

Liam looked troubled.

He tried to reason with them.

"Our sect has long-standing ties with the Russell Clan. It’s not just them benefiting from us—we also send our members there to receive training and resources."

"But no one from the Russell Clan has ever closed our library," one disciple retorted.

"Exactly! And we’ve never done that in theirs either!"

Their arguments dismantled Liam’s reasoning instantly.

"Why bother explaining?" Emma said coldly. "Just throw them out. Or do you want me to do it?"

"..."

Liam took a deep breath.

Not wanting Emma to act, he released his aura.

Being far stronger than these young disciples, his pressure alone easily forced them out of the library.

If Emma had done it, he feared she might actually hurt them.

"Unacceptable!" the disciples continued protesting from outside.

"I want to be alone. Emma, you can leave or wait outside," Victor said.

"Yes," Emma nodded.

She, Liam, and Alisa exited, closing the doors behind them.

DING!

(You have committed an evil act—driving people out of a public library. Your Spiritual Energy has increased from 0 to 1,500!)

[Realm: Houtian]

[Spiritual Energy: 1,500/3,000]

[Spiritual Energy Accumulation: 2,500]

[Body Realm: Houtian]

Victor immediately received the notification—exactly what he wanted.

1,500 Spiritual Energy.

It would have taken a long time to gather that through normal cultivation.

As his requirements increased, the System’s rewards seemed to grow as well.

Victor smiled faintly and approached one of the shelves.

Of course, he truly intended to read and learn.

He didn’t need techniques right now—but the insights of powerful figures would undoubtedly make his future cultivation far more efficient.

When it comes to understanding a Merit Law or technique, everyone walks a different path, as no two bodies or souls are the same.

At its core, it requires one’s own effort—but the experiences of others can serve as inspiration in discovering that path.

Guidance, of course, is even better.

Although the writing system in this world was different, Victor had no trouble reading the books. Since childhood, he had already been taught how to read and write.

He focused on studying the experiences of others in comprehending the Heavenly Lightning Merit Law.

One fact he uncovered was that no one had ever mastered it to 100%—not even the World Monarchs before they reached that realm.

This was undoubtedly one of the most difficult Merit Laws, and naturally, the power it granted was equally extraordinary.

For instance, if someone possessed nine Heavenly Lightnings within their body, claiming invincibility would not be an exaggeration at all.

One hour, two hours—Victor had no issue continuing to read. It had been his hobby since his time on Earth.

And now that he possessed power, his reading speed had increased several times beyond that of an ordinary human. In just two hours, he had already gone through a considerable number of books.

In fact, he was even tempted to read everything related to the Heavenly Lightning Merit Law—or Heavenly Lightning itself.

With enough knowledge, he wouldn’t be lost when the time came.
