Chapter 399
Chapter 399
Third Person's POV
The morning sun shone brightly. After a month of continuous winter snow, the city finally welcomed such a sunny day.
On this day, the entire city was buzzing with excitement over the Royal Pack's joyous occasion—Blake and Catherine's long-awaited engagement was finally coming to fruition.
The news had the city abuzz with anticipation, as everyone eagerly awaited photos or videos from the engagement party, curious to see just how luxurious and dazzling a high-society event could be.
In reality, Blake had prepared for the engagement party somewhat hastily. In his eyes, many aspects were far from perfect, but he had done his utmost to make everything as good as it could be.
Emerson was particularly delighted and felt a deep sense of relief, knowing that he would witness his grandson's engagement in his lifetime, leaving him with no regrets.
Abigail attended Catherine's engagement party, but Halsey was unable to make it due to various reasons.
Catherine had specifically called to invite him, but he had declined, not wanting his presence to overshadow Blake and Catherine's special moment or taint their happiness.
Although he longed to be there for his daughter's most important day, he ultimately stayed away.
The fact that he and Catherine were father and daughter by blood had never been made public. He hoped it would remain that way so as not to cause Catherine any trouble.
He was willing to keep their relationship a secret for the rest of his life, content in the knowledge that they loved each other.
Catherine felt a pang of regret that Halsey couldn't be there for her engagement, but she understood the complicated relationships involved and had to accept it.
Although Halsey wasn't present, he had prepared a grand gift for Catherine—40% of his company's shares and half of his personal assets. Whether as a dowry or a generous gift to his daughter, Halsey had made up his mind.
Of course, as Blake's fiancée that day, Catherine had no idea about the magnitude of the gift her father had prepared. She was already deeply touched by the jewelry and designer handbags he had sent her.
Abigail had spent a long time at home, lost in thought before coming to the party.
In fact, she hadn't slept a wink the night before, suffering from insomnia. Her son's engagement party should have been a joyous occasion, but she also felt a sense of loss.
Her more than ten-year relationship with Halsey had come to an abrupt end. It would be disingenuous to say she wasn't hurt or regretful.
When she had married Halsey, they had once dreamed of their lives together when they were too old to move, and they had imagined how the survivor would cope with the loneliness and long years ahead if one of them passed away first. They had been prepared to grow old together.
But reality had played a cruel joke on them. They hadn't made it to the end together.
It was truly heartbreaking and frustrating.
However, despite her sorrow and tears, Abigail still took the time to dress up beautifully before coming to the party.
Her gentle and beautiful face seemed to have been treated kindly by time.
Unlike some women her age who dressed fashionably or had undergone minor plastic surgery to appear younger, resulting in stiff skin, Abigail's face had some wrinkles at the corners of her eyes when she smiled, but her serene demeanor gave her a very natural and harmonious beauty.
Abigail rarely appeared in public with the Royal Pack. Almost no one knew she was Blake's mother, thinking she was just an ordinary guest.
Patricia, on the other hand, was very active, warmly greeting guests with her snowy white hair, which only highlighted her energetic smile. Everyone was impressed by Blake's spirited grandmother.
Abigail sat quietly at her table when suddenly a voice called her.
She looked up to see Richard and Nick sitting beside her.
Abigail didn't have a good impression of Richard. She was taken aback by his address.
Upon closer inspection, she noticed his hair was already graying. Although he still looked middle-aged, the incongruity was somewhat off-putting.
Moreover, five years ago, Richard had wrongfully persecuted Blake, so naturally, Abigail harbored resentment towards him.
She politely nodded at Richard but had no intention of speaking with him.
Richard, however, still smiled and asked, "Why isn't Halsey here? Weren't you two always inseparable?"
Abigail frowned immediately at his deliberate question, her face cold. "We have separated."
"Oh? Is that so? Why? As far as I know, you two were very much in love," Richard knowingly feigned curiosity, despite knowing it was a sore subject.
Abigail promptly got up and left.
Nick, sitting beside her, mocked, "Dad, why are you asking for trouble? She clearly doesn't want to talk to you."
Richard let out a soft hum. "Just because she doesn't want to talk to me doesn't mean I can't ask."
Nick gave a light laugh, then lowered his voice and asked, "Dad, who do you plan to have expose that secret?"
