The Crossroads
The Crossroads
(3rd person P.O. V)
Later in the evening, Arthur visited Erika with a file in hand. “After calling Zack and confirming that you were safe, I sent my man to Victor’s hideout to monitor him., But after two days, I lost contact with them. I suspect Victor suspected my involvement and tried to hide elsewhere. There is also a possibility that he has taken them as prisoners.”
The documents in the file were difficult to understand. ‘Did you send anyone else to follow Victor?’ she asked.
Arthur shook his head. ‘I didn’t want to risk losing more people. I’m sorry for deciding on your behalf.’
Erika assure him he had done right, given the circumstances. ‘She inquired about missing people and ancestors. Did you send people to his other hideouts to search for them?’
Arthur nodded. “We could not find the corpses of our ancestors. I have had people investigate and gather as much information as possible.” He passed another file to Erika.
“Have you sent the people back to their families? Did you include any of them in your plans?”
“No,”
Erika nodded. “Good. Make sure that we don’t have any spies working for Victor. We never know if he let us rescue them to spy on us. I’ll keep these files for the meetings. Ensure that the rescued people are not spies for Victor or under his control before sending them to their families.”
He spoke up after listening to the conversation. “You should keep them under observation until the war ends.”
Arthur and Erika nodded in agreement. It was a risky decision, but it was the best course of action to ensure the safety of everyone involved. After discussing some matter with Erika, Arthur excused himself and walked out.
Erika will summon the council members to a meeting after tomorrow. Logan protested, saying that Erika had not recovered and was overworking herself. But Erika ignores his concerns. She said saying that it wouldn’t take much time for her to recover. She would only discuss and give instructions at the meeting, not prepare anything herself.
Logan follows her request, aware that they had no choice but to prepare for the upcoming war and unsure of what Victor’s next move would be after Erika’s attempts to enter his mind.
As Logan worked, Erika found herself lost in sentiment. She needed to learn how to proceed from here. Victor had disappeared again. He knew Erika had got inside his mind. He asked her what she was thinking. She told him she might try to find Victor again, using the previous method, absently mildly.
“Erika!” Logan’s eyes were wide with shock. Erika realized her mistake and apologized, but it was too late.
“How can you say that? Why didn’t you think about us? Do you remember what happened when you were unconscious?” Logan asked her, tears in his eyes.
“I am sorry, Logan. I shouldn’t have said it. Please forgive me. I will never do that again.”
Erika cry and hugged him.
“Besides, I am not thinking of using that method again. If anything goes wrong, the world will fall into chaos.” Erika breaks the hug and wipes his tears.
“You won’t do that, right?” Logan runs his hands over his face.
After comforting Logan, Erika orders a maid to call Zack. When Zack entered the room, she started discussing and making the memorandum for the meeting.
After finishing the memorandum, Erika was so tired that she fell asleep in the bed in a sitting position eating nothing. Logan smiled at her sleeping form and gently helped her lay down on the bed. He kissed her on the forehead and worked for longer before having dinner in the room and falling asleep beside her.
When she woke up, she heard Mika’s voice and was relieved. It was weak and tired, but it was there.
“Hey, Mika. Are you okay? It scared me when I woke up and tried to contact you, but I failed. I’m sorry for putting you through so much without thinking about you.”
“It’s okay, cherry. Both of us made that decision.”
“By the way, I remember a little after entering Victor’s mind. Can you tell me what happened and how I ended up in the hospital?”
‘While we were going through Victor’s thoughts and memories, we got too deep inside his mind and got stuck. You started panicking, and I tried to calm you down, but you didn’t listen to me. I had no choice but to take control of your consciousness forcefully, resulting in you passing out.’
‘Even though you passed out, I was still conscious. So, I took full control of your consciousness and used my power to break all of Victor’s walls and reconnect with Arthur. I wanted his help to get us out.’
‘After he did that, I used my remaining power to get our spirits back inside our bodies.’
“Both of us were exhausted. Once we got inside our bodies, we passed out because of exhaustion,”
'What should we do now?'
'We should go over the file. Match the content that we remember from our previous attempt and organize it for the meeting.'
'What should we do with Victor now? Having conquered his mind, he will be much more aware of things and we won't be able to enter his mind again. And Logan also does not allow us to use the previous method to find him again.'
'He only knows that we got inside his mind. Victor does not know how we do that or what we information we have about him. He would be panicking, questioning how we penetrate his thoughts and what information we may have gathered against him. He would get insecure and inpatients and make mistakes. Besides, we find out what was keeping him from us. We can use that information to our advantage and find him.’
'You should take some rest. You look tired. When you got up, we will think together and find our way out of this problem,' Mika said when she saw Erika yawning.
'Okay,' Erika give some instructions to Logan and fall asleep after dinner.
