Chapter 10: One night he did the work a normal person would do in a month.
"memorable!"
Upon hearing those two words from Xu Yueqing, Zhou Lingyan's smile froze for a moment.
Xu Yueqing picked up her wine glass and took a small sip: "Lingyan, now that you've found this treasure, you must cherish it, after all..."
She looked up, meeting Zhou Lingyan's eyes directly: "Anyone who's used it knows how good it is!"
The table was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
Zhao Lulu and Bei Weiwei stared wide-eyed, while Li Man frowned. These two best friends were fighting more and more fiercely; she didn't even want to keep up the act anymore.
Xu Yueqing, in particular, has undergone a drastic change in temperament.
In the past, it wouldn't have been surprising if anyone present had said such explicit things, but it was definitely not Xu Yueqing who said them.
The smile on Zhou Lingyan's face vanished completely.
She stared at Xu Yueqing, her eyes sharp as knives.
Xu Yueqing looked back calmly, but her heart was ice-cold.
What is she doing?
Why say such things?
Why did she have to talk about her and Chen Bo's shameful secrets in front of so many people?
crazy.
She must be crazy.
into the night.
After the housewarming party ended, Xu Yueqing left Zhou Lingyan's villa, walked along the path, and returned to her own home.
The moment she closed the door, she finally couldn't hold back her tears.
She thought she could pretend nothing was wrong, that she could win back a point.
But she lost.
They lost miserably.
It wasn't because of Zhou Lingyan, but because of Chen Bo.
Because of that man she thought she had long since lost feelings for and could let go of immediately after the breakup, but in reality, she still held him in her heart.
She curled up on the sofa in the living room on the first floor, her heart aching terribly.
In the villa across the street, Zhou Lingyan stood at the second-floor window, looking in the direction of Xu Yueqing's house.
"Getting really angry?" She smiled. "This is just the beginning."
She turned around, walked to the room that belonged to Chen Bo, and sat on the bed.
The sheets had a faint scent of laundry detergent and a subtle masculine aroma.
Zhou Lingyan lay down and stared at the ceiling.
She did bring Chen Bo here to spite Xu Yueqing.
"Zhou Lingyan, Zhou Lingyan," she said to herself, "Are you sick?"
To spite a childhood rival, she brought her ex-boyfriend home and even put him in the best room...
After calming down, even she herself found this action outrageous.
But when she thought of Xu Yueqing's expression when she saw Chen Bo's things, and her reaction when she saw this room, she couldn't help but laugh again.
"It was worth it." She rolled over. "Seeing Xu Yueqing's expression like that was worth it."
As for Chen Bo...
Zhou Lingyan recalled his profile as he focused on his work in the recording studio that afternoon, the few lines of lyrics he wrote, and the slight furrow in his brow as he played the guitar…
"It doesn't seem that bad."
In the basement, Chen Bo was completely unaware of what was happening upstairs.
He was holding his guitar, facing the microphone, recording the last note.
"Done." He took off his headphones, looked at the complete audio track on the screen, and smiled with satisfaction.
The basement was so soundproofed that Chen Bo couldn't hear the toasting and shouting, and the fighting, upstairs at the housewarming party.
Just as the project was nearing completion, the heavy soundproof door was pushed open a crack, and Zhou Lingyan's beautiful head peeked in.
Her face still had a slight flush from the alcohol, but her eyes were sparkling, as if she had discovered something new.
"Teacher Chen," she said in a low voice, with a hint of thieving excitement, "you're still alive, you didn't die suddenly, did you?"
Chen Bo turned around and glanced at her: "Thanks to you, I'm still half alive. Is the party over upstairs?"
"Just finished." Zhou Lingyan pushed open the door and came in. She had changed into a home outfit, a silk black slip dress with a loose cardigan of the same color over it. The hem of the dress only reached mid-thigh, and her long, straight, fair legs were dazzlingly white. "I left you some food, go upstairs and eat."
Only then did Chen Bo belatedly realize that his stomach was empty. He glanced at the time in the lower right corner of his computer screen; it was 9:30 p.m.
He hadn't come out since he went into the basement that afternoon, and he hadn't even had a few sips of water.
"Thanks." He saved the project, turned off the equipment, and stood up. His legs were a little numb, and he staggered.
Zhou Lingyan instinctively reached out to help him.
The woman's hands were soft and slightly cool, carrying a faint scent of wine and perfume.
Chen Bo used her strength to steady himself. Instead of immediately letting go, he naturally leaned half of his body weight against her in that position.
"Hey you..." Zhou Lingyan was pulled off balance by him, almost losing her footing. Her cardigan slipped halfway down, revealing her rounded shoulders. "Chen Bo, you did this on purpose, didn't you?"
"My legs are really weak, a lingering effect from last night." Chen Bo looked innocent, but his gaze swept over her shoulder and chest with an open expression. "Miss Zhou, helping you up is a great act of kindness. Last night was also helping you vent your anger."
"You're a real scoundrel, not just pretending to be indecent!" Zhou Lingyan laughed and scolded, but she didn't actually push him away. She just half-carried and half-lifted Chen Bo, the disabled man, out of the basement.
The living room on the first floor was filled with a mixture of smells: the aroma of food, the rich fragrance of red wine, and several different styles of perfume.
The table was a mess of cups and plates, and most of the dishes were empty. Only one table at the side had a clean set of bowls and chopsticks, along with a few plates covered with insulated covers.
Zhou Lingyan pressed Chen Bo into a chair: "Here, this is for you. I specially saved a little of everything for you."
As she spoke, she lifted the thermal cover.
Chen Bo looked at the mountain of food in front of him and fell silent.
I left a little of everything, maybe half a plate of everything?
The braised pork belly was glistening and tempting, the steamed fish was half a whole, there were more than a dozen boiled shrimp, a plate full of garlic greens, a big bowl of chicken soup with cordyceps flowers, and a small half pot of rice in the rice cooker next to it that looked untouched.
"You…" Chen Bo looked up at Zhou Lingyan, "Are you treating me like a pig to be fed?"
Zhou Lingyan leaned against the sideboard with her arms crossed, raising an eyebrow: "What, you think it's too much? Don't waste it if you can't finish it. I hate wasting food the most."
"Don't worry." Chen Bo picked up his chopsticks. "I'm just worried there won't be enough."
Zhou Lingyan chuckled, clearly not taking it seriously.
The portion she left was enough for one and a half strong men's dinner.
Then, she witnessed firsthand what it meant for chaos to be swept away like a whirlwind.
Chen Bo's eating speed was not rough; in fact, it could be described as neat and graceful. However, his eating efficiency was terrifying.
He scooped up a bowl of soup, blew on it a couple of times, and gulped it down, warming his stomach.
Then, with precise chopsticks, I picked up a piece of braised pork with alternating layers of fat and lean meat. It melted in my mouth, and I paired it with a big mouthful of rice.
The fish was deboned cleanly and efficiently, the shrimp shells were peeled in a flash, and a large mouthful of greens was picked up with each bite...
Zhou Lingyan initially watched casually, but gradually she straightened up and her eyes widened.
The plate of braised pork was empty.
Half a fish, only the skeleton remains.
The shrimp shells piled up into a small mountain.
A CD of green vegetables.
That bowl of chicken soup, broth and ingredients, was completely devoured.
Then, Chen Bo reached for the rice cooker and used the large soup bowl to firmly press a full bowl of rice onto it.
Then, he got up and walked to the other side of the table, bringing over all the dishes that she and her girlfriends hadn't finished.
Half a plate of cold black fungus salad, a few untouched sweet and sour pork ribs, a small plate of stir-fried snow peas, and even a small bowl of dessert white fungus soup.
Then, he finished off the whole bowl of rice with the leftovers.
Zhou Lingyan: "..."
Chen Bo put down his chopsticks, sighed contentedly, and took a tissue to wipe his mouth.
Looking up, she saw Zhou Lingyan's pretty face, which was filled with shock.
"What's wrong?" he asked.
"You," Zhou Lingyan pointed to the empty dining table, "you ate it all?"
"Hmm." Chen Bo nodded, thought for a moment, and added, "I was too exhausted last night. I did the work a normal person would do in a month in one night. I ate half a meal today and was kicked out of the house. I'm hungry."
