Chapter 403
Chapter 403
The battle between Kayden and Syra raged on.
Yellow lightning crackled around Kayden's body as he raised both hands to form twin bolts of lightning in his palms.
He thrust his hands forward, and the bolts shot across the arena in twin streams of destructive energy.
Syra raised her hand, and a massive magic circle formed in front of her. From it, a concentrated beam of magic erupted, glowing with a deep crimson light.
The two attacks collided and sent shockwaves across the arena. The ground beneath them cracked and splintered, and debris was thrown into the air. The air itself seemed to scream from the force of the collision.
For a moment, neither attack gave ground, then both attacks exploded.
The blast sent both Kayden and Syra skidding backward across the arena. Kayden dug his heels into the ground to stop himself, while Syra landed gracefully and raised another magic circle without hesitation.
She released another beam, this one larger and brighter than the last.
Kayden dissolved into raw lightning and darted to the side as the beam tore through the space where he had been standing and struck the arena wall, carving a massive gouge into the stone.
Kayden reappeared above her and hurled another bolt of yellow lightning.
Syra raised her hand, and a translucent barrier formed above her head. The bolt struck the barrier and exploded, sending sparks scattering in all directions.
She retaliated immediately as multiple magic circles formed around her, each one glowing with a different color.
There was Red, Blue, Green, Purple.
From each circle, a beam of destructive magic shot forward, converging on Kayden from multiple angles.
Kayden's eyes widened, and he moved.
He dissolved into lightning again, weaving between the beams with incredible speed. He darted left, then right, then upward, avoiding each attack by mere inches.
But Syra wasn't done.
She raised both hands, and the magic circles multiplied. Dozens of them filled the air around her, each one glowing with intense light.
Then she released them all at once.
The arena was filled with beams of destructive magic. They crisscrossed through the air, creating a web of devastation that covered nearly every inch of the battlefield.
Kayden moved through it like a streak of light. His form flickered and blurred as he dodged beam after beam, his movements so fast they left afterimages in the air.
But one of the beams grazed his shoulder.
He gasped as pain shot through him, and his form solidified for just a moment. Blood dripped from the wound, and he gritted his teeth.
Then he pushed forward.
He raised his hand, and a massive bolt of yellow lightning formed above him. It crackled and roared, growing larger and larger until it filled the sky above the arena.
Then he hurled it.
The bolt shot downward like a falling star, trailing lightning in its wake.
Syra raised both hands, and a massive barrier formed above her. The bolt struck it head-on, and the impact sent a shockwave across the entire colosseum.
The barrier cracked and fractures raced across its surface, but it held.
Kayden gritted his teeth and poured more power into the attack. The bolt intensified, and the barrier cracked further.
But Syra's counter magic kept making the barrier reinforce itself each time, growing thicker and stronger. The cracks began to seal, and the bolt started to lose momentum.
Then it dissipated.
Kayden landed on the ground, breathing hard. His body was covered in sweat, and his muscles ached from the strain.
Syra lowered her hands, and the barrier dissolved as she looked at him with a smile on her face.
She was enjoying this, but Kayden wasn't.
His expression was focused and determined, and he wanted to win this at all cost.
Then he raised his hand again, ready to attack.
But then, everything changed.
Aiden felt that disturbance right then; it was like a wrongness happening at the fabric of the universe itself.
His eyes widened, and he shot to his feet.
Uriel had felt that shift as well, and her expression change instantly as she stood as well.
Around them, the gods reacted.
One by one, every god in the elevated section stood.
The crowd below noticed immediately as murmurs spread through the stands, and people looked around in confusion.
"Why are the gods standing?"
"What's happening?"
"Did something go wrong?"
Aiden's jaw clenched in frustration and he whispered, "No…" Then, louder, he cursed. "Fuck!"
Laela turned to him, her eyes wide with alarm. "What's happening?"
Aiden turned to look at her with a grim expression on his face. "I thought we had more time…"
Then he vanished.
Uriel spread her six wings, and her body began to glow with divine light.
Then she turned to Laela and Arianna and said in an urgent voice, "You both should return to the castle immediately! What we've been fearing is here!"
Then she shot into the sky and disappeared in a flash of light.
Laela and Arianna looked at each other, with panic on their faces.
Around them, the crowd had erupted into chaos. People were shouting, demanding answers, trying to understand what was happening.
Adam stood at the highest point of the colosseum, and without addressing the crowd, he raised his hand.
A golden leathered book materialized in the air before him, and a quill appeared beside it. Grabbing holding of this, Adam began to write.
His power as the Story Weaving activated and the words of the story he wrote became reality.
One by one, every human, every beast, every non-divine being in the dimension began to vanish. They disappeared in flashes of light, returned to their homes and their kingdoms.
Within seconds, the colosseum was nearly empty.
Aiden reappeared at the edge of the universe.
And he was right before the barrier that separated the Seventh Universe from the void beyond stretched out before him, an invisible wall that marked the boundary between existence and nothingness.
And beyond it, he could see them.
