Chapter 397: The Final Battle (I)

Chapter 397: The Final Battle (I)

A portal opened in the elevated section where the gods sat and Aiden stepped through.

Laela, who had been watching the arena floor with Tristan in her arms, turned her head at the disturbance. Her eyes went wide.

"Aiden!"

Arianna looked up from where she sat with Andrea and gasped. "You’re back!"

Uriel, seated beside them, exhaled in visible relief. She had been holding tension in her shoulders for a while now.

Aiden walked over and sat down beside them with a rather calm expression calm.

Laela leaned toward him and spoke in a quiet and urgent voice. "Are you alright? Did you find—"

"Later," Aiden said gently. He reached over and placed a hand on hers. "I’ll explain everything later."

She nodded, though the concern didn’t leave her face.

Arianna shifted Andrea in her arms and said, "You came back just in time. The final battle is about to start."

Aiden’s gaze drifted toward the arena floor. "Good."

Below, the gates were opening.

The colosseum was alive, every seat was filled and every eye was locked on the arena floor.

This was it.

The final battle of Stage Two, Dragonhold versus Xathia.

But this time, there would be no teams nor coordinated strategies. The final battle would be a 1v1.

The only reason a meeting had been held the previous day in Dragonhold’s hall was to discuss strategies against Syra.

Those who had witnessed her abilities also shared what they could, speaking on the possible spells she possessed and how she used them.

From the Dragonhold side, Kayden stepped onto the arena floor. And from the Xathia side, Syra walked forward.

The two champions stopped in the center of the arena, facing each other across a distance of about fifty meters.

Then the crowd fell silent and the lesser god at the edge of the arena raised his hand.

"Begin!"

The moment the word left his mouth, white lightning erupted around Kayden’s body.

His hair stood on end, and electricity crackled across his skin.

The ground beneath his feet cracked, and the air around him distorted from the sheer energy radiating off him.

Then he vanished.

He reappeared beside her, his fist charged with white lightning, and drove it toward her side.

An orb of translucent energy materialized around Syra in an instant.

Kayden’s fist struck the orb, and the impact sent a shockwave across the arena. Lightning crackled against the protective barrier, and sparks scattered in all directions.

But the orb held.

Kayden pulled back and vanished again.

Syra turned, tracking his movement as she released a blast. This one was red, a concentrated burst of fire magic.

Kayden dodged it, his body blurring as he moved. The blast struck the ground behind him and exploded, sending debris flying in all directions.

He came at her from the right this time, moving even faster, but then the orb appeared.

His fist struck it, and again, the shockwave escalated outward. The ground beneath them cracked, and chunks of stone were thrown into the air.

Kayden darted backward, then came in from above but the same orb formed.

He struck it mid-dive, and the force of the collision sent him rebounding backward. He landed on the ground and slid to a stop, breathing hard.

Syra remained calm. She raised her other hand, and a magic circle formed. This sent forth a beam of wind magic.

But then ofcourse Kayden dodged to the side, then vanished again.

This went back and forth between them for a while

In the Dragonhold section, Innis gripped the armrest so hard. "Come on, I know you can do this Kayden" she whispered.

Thamoryn, who was one of the only few who could keep up with Kayden’s pace, then said "He’s fast. But she’s keeping up."

But Oberon said nothing in reply. His expression was tense as he stared on.

On the arena floor, Kayden came at Syra again and again.

Each time, the orb appeared.

Each time, his strike was blocked.

Debris flew everywhere and the air was filled with dust and sparks.

Then Syra raised her right arm upwards and a massive magic circle formed above her head, glowing this blue light.

"Absolute Zero," she said quietly.

The temperature in the arena plummeted.

Ice spread across the ground in an instant, coating everything in a thick layer of frost. The air itself seemed to freeze, and a biting cold swept across the colosseum.

In the spectating area, people gasped and pulled their robes tighter.

Oliver sneezed. "Atchoo!"

Even the gods felt the drop in temperature, though it didn’t affect them at all.

On the arena floor, Kayden’s breath came out in visible clouds. His movements slowed and bis muscles tensed against the cold as frost began to form on his skin.

He gritted his teeth and pushed forward, but the ice made every step harder.

Then his body dissolved and he became raw lightning.

Right then, a streak of white light shot across the arena, moving so fast it left after-flashes of light in the air.

But just as he made different attempts to strike as Syra again, the same sphere would appear again and rebound it all.

And each time, the cold slowed him down just a little more.

-

The ice continued to spread and Kayden’s lightning form flickered. For a brief moment, it looked as though he was about to be trapped inside a shard of ice.

He darted away at the last second, his form streaking across the arena.

But the cold was getting to him and his movements were slower, even in his lightning form.

He came at Syra again, but this time, he couldn’t dodge fast enough.

A shard of ice grazed his side, and he gasped as pain shot through him.

He landed on the ground and began solidifying into frosts. Ice shards covered his arms and legs.

He tried to take a step forward, but his legs wouldn’t move. Kayden was beginning to freeze.

In the elevated section, Orion’s eyes were locked on Kayden, and his expression was intense.
