Chapter 761: birthday punishment 2
Chapter 761: birthday punishment 2
Mianmian had already pushed open the iron gate.
Qian Qian turned and smiled at her, her smile filled with mischief. "Are you stunned?"
Mianmian also turned to look at her, her expression the same as Qian Qian's.
Baozi averted her gaze, unembarrassed. She knew Mianmian and Qian Qian must have been just like her the first time they came; that was why they deliberately hadn't told her in advance. What do you even call that kind of mindset...? Anyway, just two quirky, adorable girls, that's all!
Baozi's foot slipped, almost causing her to fall, but she pretended nothing had happened and continued walking into the garden, looking around as she went.
She saw the perfectly shaped large tree in the center, a swing and a badminton net, dogs herding sheep, and the sheep being herded.
Two chickens were fighting.
Cousin stood at the courtyard gate waiting for them. Brother Nan was behind him, blocked from view. However, Baozi could vaguely see Brother Nan absorbed in playing a game on his phone, seemingly not intending to come out and wait for them.
"Morning," Zhou Li greeted them.
"Morning!"
"Morning, Brother Nan!"
"Morning, Brother Nan, Cousin," Baozi whispered. Even though Brother Nan was at the back, she made sure to greet him first. "Cousin, how much did this yard cost?"
"My sister gave it to me."
"Are there any more sisters?"
"No more."
"Oh."
Zhou Li led them into the yard and said, "We're planning to have a barbecue in the yard tonight. We've got a whole lamb to roast."
"Are you roasting that little sheep over there?"
"No, it's a sheep we bought."
"Oh."
"Were Qingjiang and Tibet fun?"
"Fun, but also tiring," Baozi lowered her head. "I almost spent all my savings."
"Do your uncle and aunt still give you money?"
"Not anymore."
"What job are you planning to find?" Zhou Li asked, concerned for his Little Cousin. She's truly worrisome. "Other classmates, like Mianmian and Qian Qian, have started working. What are you going to do?"
"If I can make money submitting my work, then I'll continue filming. If not, I'll go out and get a job," Baozi said calmly. "I'll find a job related to photography, earn some money, and open a studio."
"It's good that you have a plan."
Zhou Li said, scratching his head and checking the time, "It's about time to cook. I'm going to start the fire. You all can play around freely, or wait for Brother Nan to finish his game. He can show you around then. After that, get ready for the meal."
Zhou Li popped into the living room for a moment. Miss Zheng then turned off the TV and joined him in cooking.
They started the fire, cooked, and chatted. It was just like the previous two months: unremarkably plain.
Baozi played badminton with Cotton Swab in the yard for a while. Drained from physical exertion and with her self-esteem slightly bruised, she stopped playing. She then stood dumbly in the kitchen, her gaze alternating between Cousin starting the fire and Miss Zheng cooking.
"Right!" Zhou Li looked up at her. "Do you know how to take cuttings?"
Baozi looked around, baffled, making sure Cousin was talking to her. Then she replied unhurriedly, "What cuttings?"
"Yueli cuttings and propagation."
"I can't!" Baozi quickly became alert.
Yet her cousin was very gentle. He smiled and told her, "A high-achieving student from the School of Life Sciences, how can you not know something as basic and simple as taking cuttings? No worries. After we eat, I'll teach you. It's idiot-proof; you'll learn it right away."
"Oh."
I shouldn't have come here, Baozi thought. It would have been much better to tease Lord Dumpling, although it seems like Lord Dumpling has already forgotten who I am.
They made a few dishes and ate them in the yard.
After eating, they cleaned up the dishes and put them in the dishwasher. A clay stove paired with a dishwasher! A cyberpunk kitchen, absolutely brilliant!
Zhou Li walked out of the yard. He saw Baozi sitting on a swing under the tree, with Mianmian pushing her from behind, sending her high into the air. Baozi clutched the ropes tightly. Only Mianmian's shouts could be heard, not Baozi's voice.
"I'll teach you guys how to do cuttings!"
Cuttings are a common method of asexual plant reproduction. They are often used when propagating Yueli and involve almost no technical difficulty.
The young women could probably do it without being taught.
It's just that the workload was slightly substantial.
Baozi was a very lazy person, much like Zhou Li. She would resist inwardly before starting work. However, once she actually got into it, her laziness vanished. She would then work at a steady pace, making no mistakes and honestly carrying out her tasks.
Cotton Swab filled pots with soil.
Baozi and Miss Zheng pruned the branches and inserted them into the prepared soil.
Zhou Li, Huai Xu, and Brother Nan watered them and moved the pots.
Lord Dumpling and His Royal Highness, the Prince of Yu, watched.
The efficiency of the assembly line was truly high.
After working for half the day, Baozi confusedly asked, "Cousin, why are you making so many? Are you planning to fill up this entire yard?"
"I'm opening a flower shop."
Baozi looked at him, puzzled.
"I'm planning to open a flower shop."
"Open a flower shop?" Baozi was startled for a moment, quickly dropped the branches and scissors, and asked Zhou Li, "Cousin! Are you hiring? Me, me, me!"
"Huh?"
"I'll come work for you!"
"You're too lazy."
"I'm very diligent!"
"Hmm..."
"It's okay if the wages are a bit low!" Baozi said resolutely. "I'm very capable!"
"Let's talk about it later; it's still early," Zhou Li yawned. "Who knows, you might find a job before then."
"I'm not looking." Baozi had a determined look, set on working for her cousin.
Zhou Li was somewhat tempted. This Little Cousin might be lazy, but she never messes things up. And a high-achieving student from the School of Life Sciences doing this kind of work? That's truly an underutilization of her abilities. She'd be more than qualified to cultivate new species.
Baozi looked serious too. Based on what I know of Cousin, the job would definitely be easy, she thought. Sometimes he might not even want to open the store. And he definitely wouldn't forget about me when it comes to good food and drinks. All in all, following Cousin and his wife means living the good life without facing any trouble. This is the blissfully lazy life I want to live! If I can't have this, I'll just have to be like everyone else.
