CHAPTER 147- even the heavens want to strike us down
Two days later.
Now far enough away from the island, everyone finally eased the pressure a little.
Not to the point of laughing, but just enough to breathe fresh air.
Dina, Sys, and Zina stayed together most of the time, talking about recent events or about completely different things.
“Seriously, Sys… are you sure you’re not a princess?”
Zina said.
“I was born and lived as a commoner. Then I was captured by cultivators from the Payo clan.
They didn’t do anything twisted to me like on the island. Since they needed soldiers, they turned me into a cultivator.
After that, you know the rest. Cultivators from the Immortal Realm appeared, and they fled,”
Sys declared in an almost indifferent tone.
“And yet, you really don’t seem to care,”
Dina said.
“That’s because it’s the past. I stay focused on the present and the future,”
Sys replied.
“So, what do you plan to do after this?”
Zina asked.
“What do you mean by that?”
Dina exclaimed.
“Well, I doubt this war will last another ten years. I’m sure it’ll be over in five.
And I’m not interested in joining any of the three,”
Zina said.
“So you also want to leave this planet,”
Sys said.
Stolen story; please report.
Taking a few moments before answering, Zina replied:
“I’ve known for one hundred and fifty years that there are other worlds out there, and I want to visit all of them.
But at the very least, I need to reach the Immortal Realm—and even then, there are higher realms above it.
What I keep training constantly is my mind and my senses.
After all, in this world, some people are born as monsters, like Liara, and others become monsters over the years, like Kurdes.”
“But over there… who fought Liara?”
Sys asked.
Dina answered them:
“Hikiri told me that he and Kurdes fought her first, but they lost.
Then Tony arrived and started fighting her alone.”
She also told them what Hikiri had said about Kurdes.
“Wow… he’s really determined to kill his own sister,”
Zina said.
“You can use aether too?”
Dina asked.
Sys answered without hesitation:
“Yes, but even though I can use it, all I can do is see attacks and create swords.
That’s the most basic level.
I’m sure you can do much more with aether, but for that you’d need extreme concentration and the ability to expand your consciousness.
After all, it’s a natural energy.”
“Hmmm…
Too bad. Since I recently reached rank eight, I wanted to expand my possibilities.
I’ll ask Tony when he wakes up,”
Dina replied.
“If he’s still alive… with injuries like that, I wonder how he’s even breathing.
His rib cage is almost visible to the naked eye,”
Zina said bluntly.
“What I noticed most was his gaze.
I don’t know what Liara did to him, but it changed him a little,”
Sys pointed out.
“After being tortured by that lunatic, I doubt anyone would stay the same,”
Zina added.
Driven by curiosity, Dina asked:
“This is off-topic, but have you ever seen cultivators from the Immortal Realm?
What changes compared to rank nine?”
“I knew I was going to like you—you ask good questions.
From what I learned during my brief time with the Chang clan, the Immortal Realm is divided into three ranks:
Initiate, Mastered, and Master.
At that level, an ordinary sword wouldn’t even pierce your skin.
You might manage to leave a few cuts on someone at the Initiate rank, but not reach the flesh.
And for a Master—forget it. Unless you’re suicidal, an unreinforced sword won’t do anything, unless the weapon itself is special.
As you can probably tell, at that realm the body becomes far more resilient.
Each rank grants five hundred additional years of life—perfect for those seeking immortality.
I once saw a Master-rank cultivator fight from afar, and it was insane.
He literally transformed his hand into a sword; every movement he made was lethal.
There were two hundred opponents against him, and he annihilated them in ten minutes.
In terms of strength, that’s far beyond Liara. Her fight with the ape didn’t even destroy the abbey.
If those had been Immortals, it would’ve been a completely different story—our area would’ve been affected by their blows,”
Zina declared.
“Well… that really makes you want to reach the Immortal Realm,”
Dina muttered.
“Maybe. But before that, there’s rank nine—and more importantly, you have to endure the transformation of your body.
Some have told me the pain is far worse than failing to assimilate your new power,”
Sys said.
“Oh… so you’ve actually spoken with an Immortal Realm cultivator?”
Zina asked.
Suddenly, Sys—who had remained calm the entire time—burst into laughter:
“Spoken with? You mean interrupted.
I disturbed him while he was about to advance to the next realm.
He let us stay with him for a week, and I watched lightning strike him for over twenty-four hours straight.
He told me it was a tribulation, and that it was necessary to reach the next realm.
But let me tell you this—I stayed there all day watching him, and it was incredible.
The lightning literally burned his body.
He told me that the body can be healed, but the soul is far more complex.
‘If you ever reach this realm,’ he said, ‘you’ll see—the hardest part is what happens inside,’”
Sys shared.
That plunged Dina and Zina into deep thought.
A cultivator’s life is truly dangerous… even the heavens want to strike us down,
she thought.
