CHAPTER 146- Damn you
CHAPTER 146- Damn you
In this world, where one can have the strength to destroy a wall, control fire, and wield a natural energy like aether.
Madness can be a method. Like right now, I am literally dancing with death, but never reaching the finale.
Lost in his thoughts, Tony absorbed the information he had received.
Using aether in a different way, maybe… no, surely, like regeneration.
But I’ll have to learn very fast. After all, I am a rank eight who hasn’t yet properly assimilated his new power.
My body is barely holding together. Death is not something to fear, but… I do not wish to die.
Tony began absorbing aether and started learning, not how to heal, but rather how to regenerate—and at the same time.
He and Liara attacked the monkey’s fist as it came crashing down on them.
Myriad of daggers.
Pillar dominating fire and lightning.
Tony struck upward with his fist. A pillar mixing yellow and blue erupted from his arm, accompanied by Liara’s myriad of daggers.
But Tony didn’t see the result. He used Ignition beneath his feet, propelling himself toward Hikiri.
Grabbing him by the arm, Tony fled toward the lower levels of the abbey.
Liara watched him go without trying anything. There was something more interesting than Tony.
When Liara and Tony’s combined attack made contact, the monkey’s fist was struck. Its hand had been completely burned, the damage climbing almost to its shoulder.
Fine holes had also formed, caused by Liara’s daggers.
“You know, Kurdes, every time you break through to the next rank, you must assimilate your new power or you will die.
The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.
But some manage to assimilate it in the middle of battle. Like that dear Tony.
Instead of assimilating it using brute force alone—which allows for proper adaptation—he chose to boost himself with fire and lightning.
The moment he stops—if he survives—the pain he will endure will be worse than the torture I inflicted on him.”
Liara said.
Looking at her with a calm, cold gaze, Kurdes replied:
“Why tell me this? Whether he survives or not doesn’t matter to me…”
Suddenly, while observing the flow of aether, Kurdes froze.
Aether began to swirl around Liara. She had just shattered the last wall separating her from rank nine.
“Why? Because I’m going to show you how to assimilate this power without even sitting in a lotus position.”
Liara rose into the air and approached the monkey, which roared in fury at the damage it had suffered.
“To discover your new power, nothing beats brute force!”
Liara screamed like a madwoman, slamming a punch into the monkey’s face.
The monkey’s head snapped to the side. When it retaliated with an upward punch, Liara shielded herself with aether.
She then engaged in a nonstop exchange of punches with the monkey, which was also using aether to protect itself.
Both relied solely on brute force. No affinity cards, no aether enhancement—only pure hand-to-hand combat.
Irritated, Kurdes watched the fight. He wasn’t foolish. He knew that even a single blow, despite aether protection, could put him in mortal danger.
“Damn you, Liara… but it seems you won’t die today.”
He murmured the name Nuya.
She appeared before him in the very next second.
“We’re leaving. I must reach rank nine. And perhaps, during their great battle for this planet, I will finally manage to end her life.”
Kurdes declared, grabbing Nuya’s hand as they both vanished.
At the bottom of the abbey, Hikiri could clearly see that Tony’s condition was only getting worse.
Noticing his intense gaze, Tony said:
“Don’t worry about me. I can still hold on.”
Hikiri didn’t believe it for a second.
When they exited the abbey, they encountered the survivors who had fought in the underground levels. None of them were in good condition, but at least they were conscious.
Seeing Tony’s state, Dina tried to speak to him… but Hikiri interrupted her, pointing toward the port where their ships were still docked.
Everyone rushed toward the port, while Liara’s laughter filled the air.
“Come on, come on!”
Asti and Iloy urged anxiously.
“This is the beauty of the cultivators’ world. And we’re only at the first realms. Don’t you think?”
Zina asked Sys.
“It’s surprising to see you here. I thought you’d follow Kurdes.”
Sys exclaimed.
“I’m not crazy. Like Tony said, he’s a serpent who plays very well. Who knows what he has planned.”
Zina declared.
Despite everyone’s doubts, they managed to reach the ship.
Darlius hurried to move them away from that cursed island.
Seated on a ledge, Tony had mostly understood how to heal himself with aether.
But more importantly, he urgently needed to assimilate his new power if he didn’t want to die.
From the outside, he might have looked like he was sleeping, but inside, his consciousness was fighting to survive, forced to handle two tasks requiring extreme concentration.
“But Hikiri, he’s going to die if we don’t help him!”
Dina roared.
Hikiri blocked anyone trying to get close to Tony.
“Trust me, he’s not sleeping. And once he gets better, he’d better teach us how to use aether.”
He said.
“Instead of worrying about him, when did you break through to rank eight?”
After a moment, Dina answered:
“In the middle of battle. It was either that or death. And even after killing those two, I had to cultivate immediately so my body could regain balance. I had no desire to explode just because my power was out of sync with my body.”
“Wait… that’s what Tony did.”
“Hmmm…
He did worse than you. He jumped from rank six to rank eight. That grants immense power, but the backlash isn’t simple.”
Hikiri said.
At the back of the ship, Aconé, lost in his thoughts, watched from afar the fight between Liara and the monkey, now reduced to nothing but an exchange of punches.
