The next morning, Zhang Yichen rushed into his son’s bedroom to find his wife. He felt that he needed to clear things up with her as it wouldn’t benefit anyone if they didn’t; so many issues could be easily resolved with clear communication. Yet, why had he been so concerned about his pride, refusing to apologize no matter what? Apologizing this time would surely touch her heart deeply, for he had never apologized to anyone before. This was the first time he was breaking the rule.

But he didn’t know that this time his wife wouldn’t take his gesture at face value. The fault clearly wasn’t hers, yet her husband had pushed all the blame onto her. How could she simply forgive him so easily?

Zhang Yichen knocked on his son’s bedroom door.

Zhang Ni, groggy and half-awake, opened his eyes. Seeing his father standing at the door with a fierce expression startled him.

Since when had his father been so harsh towards him? Why had he never seen him become so fierce?

"Dad, it’s only just after five in the morning. What’s the rush? Barging in so early, I still need to sleep!"

"Enough with the act. Tell me, is your mom in this room? She didn’t come back to sleep all night; she must be here with you. Move aside, I need to go in and talk with her. Don’t block my way. Get up now; it’s not early anymore. Once I’ve spoken to your mom, if you still want to sleep, you can go back to bed. You don’t have to go to training today, okay?"

Zhang Ni, thrilled at the prospect of skipping training, quickly stepped aside. He let his father in, thinking his mother wasn’t there. But when he followed his father into his bedroom, he was surprised to find his mother indeed there. When had she come? Why didn’t he know anything about it?

"It’s late; get up now. I have something to talk to you about!"

Ran Zhihan opened her eyes, rubbing them lethargically. Suddenly, the sight of her husband standing in front of her nearly stopped her heart. When had he come? He had never before taken the initiative to look for her; what was different today? Was the sun rising from the west, or was there some significant matter at hand?

"Why are you here? I remember you never coming to look for me before. I’m surprised you’re breaking your routine today. Say it then, what is it that you want?"

"Do you think this is a good place to talk? Shouldn’t we go out and discuss things properly? Our child is here; some matters shouldn’t be discussed in his presence. Why create an ugly scene for both of us? Just a few words outside isn’t going to kill you. I’ve taken the trouble to come find you, so I won’t simply walk away. Come on out with me!"

Ran Zhihan had no choice; she was afraid her husband might spill all the sordid details in front of their child, damaging her reputation. So, she had to follow him out and settle matters once and for all, to ensure this wouldn’t be used against her again—she couldn’t endure being threatened and manipulated repeatedly.

"Fine, let’s go. It’s best if we can completely resolve this matter today, so we don’t keep using it to threaten each other. It’s unnecessary!"

Zhang Yichen, although somewhat struggling to accept his wife’s attitude, still followed her out. He knew that discussing certain matters in front of their child would result in a bad outcome for everyone, only causing their child grief. It was worth making sacrifices for the child’s sake. The issue wasn’t serious, so why discuss it in front of the child? Wouldn’t it be better to talk it out privately?
