Chapter 1222 - 1052: After the Impulse
Chapter 1222 - 1052: After the Impulse
"Have you ever thought about why we’ve ultimately ended up like this? What kind of life do we really want?"
"Do you remember the outcomes of your impulsive actions time and time again? Have you ever considered how heartbroken I was, or thought about why you felt the need to act impulsively and face such heavy consequences over and over?"
When Xiao Wei arrived at the airport, Li Jiayuan and Lei Kai had just disembarked from the plane. Seeing his wife coming to meet him, he felt deeply moved.
Xiao Wei saw his wife standing there, looking at him with teary eyes, brimming with emotion. The words he wanted to say to his wife, he could only forcefully swallow back.
"Xiao Wei, how could you do this? How could you and your son involve me with Mr. Ma in this matter? Don’t you know Xia Jing and I are good sisters now? If anything really happened to her, how could I possibly be happy?"
"You men never consider your family’s feelings, do you? Even though you initially considered my feelings and my health."
"But still, deep down, I’m not happy. Why is that? I am your lifelong partner, sharing the bed all these years, yet you can hide such things from me. Tell me, what else are you hiding?"
Xiao Wei didn’t expect Li Jiayuan to be even more difficult to deal with than his sister when unreasonable. Indeed, it’s truly hard to manage women and petty people.
No matter what his wife says, he can only silently bear it. He cannot refute her, nor has the heart to see his wife come all this way not to help him bear all this alone. He merely wanted to share the burden, but if he doesn’t appreciate her efforts and chooses instead to resent her, would he even qualify to be a man?
"Jiayuan, I wasn’t thoughtful enough about this; don’t be angry with me. I just hoped you could rest peacefully there. You know how tiring it is to travel back and forth. It’s not about the travel cost; I just didn’t want your health to be burdened."
"Alright, let’s stop talking now. Let’s head to the hospital quickly. I’m worried about sudden changes there, as so much time has passed without any sign of recovery. I’m a bit concerned; we ought to return to the hospital to help keep watch. There is strength in numbers, so our nephew won’t be too pressured on his own."
Li Jiayuan agreed that Xiao Wei made a good point and immediately decided to head to the hospital because she felt her best friend needed looking after, and their relationship was no ordinary one—after all, they were relatives.
Xiao Wei glanced at Lei Kai, who awkwardly scratched his head.
He felt quite embarrassed that a simple task given by his father couldn’t be completed satisfactorily, leaving him to wonder what tasks he could accomplish in his father’s eyes.
"Let’s head back to the hospital; stop staring at Kai’er."
"This isn’t his fault. If I hadn’t noticed it early, would you two have planned to bury this forever? If you dare to blame him inexplicably, I won’t forgive you. Don’t think because we’re married for so many years, I’ve never gotten angry with you. Some things are an essential principle for being human; shouldn’t we have these basic principles? Do you think we have principles between us now?"
"Yes, yes, wife, you’re right, anything you say is right. It’s my mistake; as a husband and father, I shouldn’t have hidden this from you; I should have informed you earlier and had you come back to China with me."
"But Jiayuan, think about it. I’ve been back in China alone for a week, and the two haven’t woken up. If you’d returned with me a week earlier, what could have changed? Still, you’d be another person waiting in vain, another person sad. Knowing the truth now is actually best."
"Fine, fine, everything you two say is for my benefit."
"Now that it’s for my good, I still have errands to run. Will you take me to the hospital? I want to see how my best friend is doing; I’m worried too!"
Xiao Wei took Li Jiayuan to the hospital.
"Uncle, aunt—you’ve arrived, please sit and rest! Aunt, thank you for worrying about my parents, and I’m sorry for making you tired!"
"Silly child, what are you saying? Your mother and I are best friends. If something happens to my best friend, as her close friend, should I not come to see her? How could you not tell us about such a significant issue?"
"Even if you’re strong as steel, one person can’t handle it all. Have you never thought about letting others share the burden? How can you cope with all this alone?"
"Look at your dark circles; you’re already so worn out. I heard grandpa fainted; is he alright?"
"Thank you for your concern, aunt; grandpa is not seriously hurt."
"He was overly worried about mom and dad’s health as they wouldn’t wake, leading to his emotional collapse and fainting. He’s alright now. My current concern is why mom and dad remain unconscious; it’s been three whole weeks. If they don’t wake in a month, the chance of recovery decreases."
"The reason for the car accident is still unclear. I don’t understand what could have distracted dad while driving, or under what circumstances such a severe accident would occur—major accidents aren’t supposed to happen on highways..."
"Zhang Yichen has been investigating, but no matter how he tries, he can’t find a clear answer. Maybe the results will vanish inexplicably; he keeps waiting for the police’s response, yet it hasn’t come, and his mom and dad haven’t awakened, leaving him deeply anxious."
"It’s okay, child, things will pass. Believe that your parents will wake, and that the truth will come to light. Don’t worry too much; your primary task is to take care of your health and grandpa’s well-being so your parents won’t be upset when they wake."
"I know what you’re thinking deep down. No matter when or where, always remember you’re your parents’ pride, an undeniable truth for a lifetime. In their hearts, having a son like you is their greatest joy."
"They might not feel proud for other reasons, but they’ll always be proud of you. You’ve brought them a different life and showed them what true love is—they’re grateful for you. Now, you must take good care of yourself; never let your health deteriorate too!"
"Impulsivity is truly the devil. Once impulsive, you may fall into an abyss with no way out; no one lives unchanged forever..."
