Chapter 1185 - 1028: The Unexpected (Part 14)
"Dad, thank you for everything you’ve done for me. From now on, your daughter won’t let herself cry again." Li Jiayuan silently promised herself.
Zhang Zhentian groggily picked up his phone after waking up at home. He called Xia Jing, but the mechanical voice on the phone said, "The number you dialed is switched off, please try again later..."
Hearing this mechanical voice made Zhang Zhentian’s head ache. He sat up abruptly and tossed the phone onto the blanket.
At that moment, Li Jiayuan had just fallen asleep. In her dream, she revisited her encounter at the airport earlier. Slowly, she opened her eyes and muttered to herself, "Zhang Zhentian, just you wait!"
After saying this, Li Jiayuan lay back down and continued sleeping.
"Achoo!" Zhang Zhentian sneezed and said, "Who is so inconsiderate? Why curse me in the middle of the night?"
Li Jiayuan, still sleeping soundly, snored like a pig. After grumbling, Zhang Zhentian covered himself with the blanket and went back to sleep.
The next morning.
"Oh~ so comfortable!" Zhang Zhentian stretched lazily, then quickly dressed and rushed downstairs, feeling starved since he hadn’t eaten the night before.
As he descended the stairs, he immediately saw Li Jiayuan sitting on the sofa in his home. At first, he thought his eyes were playing tricks on him. After rubbing them to dispel the illusion, he quickly walked over to Li Jiayuan and said abruptly, "Li Jiayuan, what are you doing in my house so early in the morning?"
Li Jiayuan stood up nonchalantly and said to Zhang Zhentian, "Why shouldn’t I be here when I’m not here for you? I’m visiting Uncle, not looking for you. Why are you assuming I’m here for you?"
Zhang Zhentian felt speechless hearing Li Jiayuan’s words. He didn’t know how to respond to her question. He couldn’t just outright say, "No, you can’t come to my house." But if he didn’t express that, he feared Xia Jing would be upset if she found out Li Jiayuan came to the house while she wasn’t around.
Old Master Zhang understood Zhang Zhentian’s predicament, so he didn’t say anything directly.
Since Old Master Zhang had accepted Xia Jing as his daughter-in-law, he didn’t like Li Jiayuan.
Old Master Zhang coughed and glanced at Zhang Zhentian. Zhang Zhentian looked up at him, seeing him making gestures with his eyebrows and eyes, thinking his father was telling him not to say anything unpleasant. So he replied to Li Jiayuan, "Of course, you can come over anytime. Besides, since you’re not here for me, why should I mind?"
After speaking, Zhang Zhentian felt proud for understanding his father’s signals. But hearing this, Old Master Zhang wished he could slap Zhang Zhentian right there. Old Master Zhang intended for Zhang Zhentian to send Li Jiayuan away, not tell her he didn’t mind her presence.
Old Master Zhang thought to himself, "How could I have such a foolish son?"
Having already spoken, Old Master Zhang couldn’t openly ask Li Jiayuan to leave, so she remained seated on the sofa.
Zhang Zhentian still didn’t realize his mistake. He thought he did the right thing. However, how could he have known that as he told Li Jiayuan those words, Xia Jing was standing right at the doorway!
Xia Jing hadn’t told Old Master Zhang she would visit the Zhang Family today, nor informed Zhang Zhentian of her return to the country. She was planning to surprise them both, but instead, received a surprise herself from Zhang Zhentian.
As Xia Jing stood at the entrance, she gave a playful wink towards Xia Jing, having caught sight of her long before. This prompted her earlier question to Zhang Zhentian.
Seeing Li Jiayuan’s triumphant expression annoyed Xia Jing. She dropped what she was holding and turned to leave. Zhang Zhentian, hearing the noise at the door, quickly walked to see. Noticing the gift boxes on the ground, he guessed Xia Jing had returned and hurried outside. But finding no trace of Xia Jing, he came back. Li Jiayuan, observing the deepening misunderstanding between Xia Jing and Zhang Zhentian, felt a surge of joy.
"There are many things grandpa can tell you!
Back then, for your father’s sake, your aunt devised numerous schemes against your mother, causing significant misunderstandings between your parents and leading to their repeated separations. During that period, I couldn’t believe such a seemingly kind girl could do such things until she met your uncle and changed drastically. In the end, everything your mother did led to their eventual marriage. Sometimes, your uncle and aunt should probably be grateful to your mother. If it weren’t for her impulsive decisions, how else would your uncle and aunt have had such an incredible romance?"
