Chapter 1184 - 1028: The Unexpected (Part 13)

"Until later, I realized that it’s impossible for there to be no arguments between a couple. If a couple, including married ones, never quarrels even once in their lifetime, then that’s an abnormal marriage. As a woman, the biggest hope is that her family marriage can be happy. Even if the reality of marriage isn’t exactly what it seems, for me, that is my happiness."

After searching around the airport several times, Li Jiayuan didn’t see any trace of Zhang Zhentian. She understood that Zhang Zhentian must have sneaked away when someone was causing trouble earlier.

"Zhang Zhentian, do you dislike me so much? You actually sneaked away to avoid me. Why do you never consider my feelings?" Li Jiayuan’s eyes brimmed with tears, and she couldn’t help but think, "Zhang Zhentian, fine, if you want to play it this way with me, then I have no choice but to be unkind to you."

Back home, Li Jiayuan didn’t say a word and went straight upstairs. Li Haixiao, seeing her return, asked, "Jiayuan, where have you been all day? Why are you only coming back now?"

Seeing that Li Jiayuan didn’t turn to speak to him, Li Haixiao found it a bit strange. He slowly walked over and held Li Jiayuan’s shoulders, turning her to face him. When he saw her eyes red, he found it even more unbelievable.

"Jiayuan, what’s wrong? Have you been crying?"

Hearing her father’s question, Li Jiayuan felt even more wronged and started crying outright. When Li Haixiao heard his precious daughter crying, his heart felt shattered. He gently wiped Li Jiayuan’s tears with his hand, thinking she would stop crying, but to his surprise, she cried even more sorrowfully, leaving him at a loss for what to do.

"Alright, alright, stop crying, or you won’t be pretty anymore!" Li Haixiao coaxed Li Jiayuan as if comforting a child looking for their mother. Seeing her father looking like that for her, Li Jiayuan couldn’t help but burst into laughter. When Li Haixiao saw his beloved daughter smile, he felt much more at ease.

"Jiayuan, can you tell Dad what happened? Why are you crying like this?" Li Haixiao, seeing that Li Jiayuan had stopped crying, couldn’t help but ask.

"Dad, nothing’s wrong. Look at me, lively all day, how could there be anything wrong!"

Li Jiayuan didn’t want her father to worry about her to the point of losing sleep. So, she didn’t tell Li Haixiao about what happened at the airport today, nor did she mention she went there to pick up Zhang Zhentian, or what the middle-aged man said to her. Li Jiayuan understood her father better than anyone. She knew her father was a man who valued face and cherished her like a precious jewel. How could a loving father tolerate his precious daughter being called a home-wrecking mistress by others?

"It’s good to hear you’re fine, Jiayuan. You’re probably hungry, right? Come, have dinner with Dad!" Li Haixiao said with a smile.

"Dad, I’m not hungry. I won’t have dinner with you tonight. I’m going upstairs first."

"Alright, remember to come down and cook something if you get hungry." Li Haixiao affectionately patted Li Jiayuan’s head. Li Jiayuan agreed with a cheerful grin and then turned to go upstairs.

Alone in the living room, Li Haixiao pondered, "This child has really grown up. She used to tell her father everything, but now, when something happens, she comes home without mentioning it... Sigh! Jiayuan, Dad truly hopes you can always be happy and never be sad like today."

Li Haixiao sat on the sofa, sighing. He thought Li Jiayuan had really gone upstairs, but how could he know she was actually squatting on the stairs, listening.

Listening to her father’s concerns, Jiayuan felt complicated emotions. She was glad she didn’t tell Li Haixiao what happened today, or else he would not only sigh but would have exploded in anger. Jiayuan understood that nothing could be hidden from her father, but she still felt it was better not to tell him. She knew her father’s health couldn’t handle stress, and she didn’t want her father, past his middle age, to worry himself sick because of her.

Li Jiayuan quietly ran to her room and buried her head in the pillow, crying.
