Chapter 403: They Were Shrewd
Chapter 403: They Were Shrewd
As soon as they returned to the room, Margaret quickly closed the door and pulled Hilla to her.
"What’s going on? Why are the Jorgansens here? Did my mother win them over?" Margaret asked excitedly, and her eyes were sparkling with lights. It was not until this moment did she realized what had happened.
Hilla immediately kept her quiet and glanced at the door, "Keep your voice down. Walls have ears."
Margaret understood that and glanced at the door too. After making sure that the door was closed, she took Hilla to the inner room.
"Did I miscarry my baby?"
Margaret said in a low voice. She thought it was just a lie made up by Orlenna.
Hilla sighed and said resignedly, "Mother wants to settle things as soon as possible. Jessie is a wicked girl. Mother is afraid that you will suffer losses because of her in the future."
Margaret had just said a few words to Jessie. How could Jessie call white black? And she had even tried to frame Margaret by committing suicide.
Hilla understood what Orlenna was worried about. Although Orlenna knew that Margaret was smart to know it, she still worried that Jessie would make a fuss in the future.
Margaret might not be able to deal with it if Jessie wanted to do something.
"I knew it was a lie made by mom. I just had an appendix. How could she say I miscarry my baby? Mom went too far. How could she curse her future grandson?
Margaret muttered in a low voice, looking dissatisfied. Hilla couldn’t help but sigh.
"Margaret, how could you blame mother?"
"If Mom hadn’t arrived in time, the Jorgansens would scold you to death."
Although Jessie was a stepdaughter, she could suppress Margaret.
Margaret was from the Anderson family. Although the Jorgansens wanted to make use of her, some of them were still keeping an eye on her.
They feared that Margaret would become more powerful than them.
Margaret was both a pawn and a threat to them.
Those people who were jealous of Julian would have this kind of thought. With the support of Margaret, Julian would certainly be the heir of the Jorgansen family.
"What should we fear them? They don’t even have the ability."
Margaret raised her head and said with disdain.
Margaret had met different kinds of people since she was a child. How could the Jorgansen come to trouble her for the sake of Jessie? Margaret wouldn’t allow that to happen.
Hilla frowned, "They didn’t trouble you because Mother said you had miscarried the baby. It was more important than Jessie’s life. They would not dare to offend you."
Hilla really admired Orlenna. She had taken the initiative before the Jorgansens could say anything.
Margaret pursed her lips, "I finally understand why Sophie treated me like that. She and Marcos could not give birth to any babies, so she resented all the women who carried the babies of the Jorgansen family."
If Margaret did have a baby, she would be the most important person in the Jorgansen family.
With the support of both the Anderson family and the Jorgansen family, Margaret’s baby would certainly be the heir of the Jorgansen family.
Margaret suddenly realized how important she was to Julian. Julian did choose the right woman.
"But you still need to be careful. Sophie is not that simple. Otherwise, how could she get married to Marcos?"
Hilla’s face darkened slightly.
The relationships in the Jorgansen family were complicated. It would not be easy for anyone who wanted to have a position in the Jorgansen family.
In the past, Hilla felt sorry for Margaret. However, Margaret seemed to not care about it at all.
Perhaps the Jorgansens were nothing to Margaret.
"Alright. I don’t care what kind of person she is. Without Marcos, Sophie could not give birth to any baby."
How could an unknown child be the heir of the Jorgansen family?
What’s more, no one could rival Margaret. How could other babies rival her baby?
"Don’t be arrogant. Although Jessie couldn’t, other people could. The one who gives birth to a baby would have more chances to win the heir."
Margaret pursed her lips and snorted coldly, "You mean the one who comes early gets it?"
"It’s fine. Don’t worry. I can handle it. Since mom had said that I miscarried a baby, I would act it well."
Margaret said. Then she lay on the bed and waved at Hilla with her weak hand.
"Hilla, give me a towel. I’m headache."
Hilla thought, "Do you want to wrap your head with a towel?
"Don’t be so stupid. You are living in modern time."
"Stop being naughty."
Margaret amused Hilla.
Margaret said seriously, "Hilla, take it seriously. Jessie even committed suicide. How could I give up the game?"
Everyone knew how to act to ask for others’ sympathy.
How could Margaret lose?
"If you do this, how should I explain it to Julian?"
Hilla said worriedly. If Margaret were no longer simple, life would be hard for Julian.
Margaret suddenly thought of something and raised her head, "Did Julian know the truth?"
Hilla pouted. He knew that you were not pregnant.
Margaret thought, "What did I say? It was Julian who sent me to the hospital." How could Julian not know that she did not have a miscarriage? "He didn’t tell his family about my appendix, did he?"
Orlenna had made up a lie to deal with the Jorgansens. Julian would probably support the Jorgansens.
Hilla shook her head, "He did not say anything."
However, as Julian did not say anything, the Jorgansens blamed Jessie for offending Margaret. And they believed that it was all Jessie’s fault.
Therefore, Jessie failed to win their sympathy by committing suicide. On the contrary, they scolded Jessie.
"That’s good. He did it right. So, we should act it well lest others discover it."
Margaret wrapped herself up in the quilt and raised the temperature of the air-conditioner.
They might come to check.
Thus, she should take it seriously.
Although Hilla didn’t think telling a lie was good, she agreed that Jessie should pay the price for what she had done.
In this way, she would know it was useless to commit suicide or make other fuss.
"Why did you wrap yourself up? Are you not hot?"
Hilla was a little worried. Then she heard someone open the door. Someone did come to check.
Margaret’s eyes lit up, and she immediately lay still on the bed.
She frowned and began to groan.
It was her show time!
...
The door opened, and it was Julian.
Julian was surprised to see Hilla here.
"Margaret is tired and wants to rest."
Hilla was embarrassed.
Before Julian could say anything, she walked out of the room and said, "I’ll see if Mom needs any help. I’ll not disturb you."
Hilla closed the door. Julian’s gaze fell on Margaret.
Seeing that Margaret closed her eyes, Julian said coldly, "Stop pretending."
Margaret opened her eyes and saw Julian alone. She immediately sat up and frowned, "Where are the others?"
"What? Do you want everyone to come and comfort you?"
Margaret pursed her lips. She was not the one who lied. If Julian was dissatisfied, he could just tell Orlenna.
"Why don’t you explain everything?"
Margaret just had her appendix cut. She didn’t get an abortion.
Julian retracted his gaze and sat down on the bed. He took away the quit and pulled Margaret out.
"Don’t you feel hot?"
Margaret wiped the sweat on the forehead. She said with a frown, "But I have to pretend to be weak. What if Brittany and the others come in and find that I am lively?"
She was not afraid to confront the Jorgansen family, but she was afraid that Orlenna would be contradicted.
Orlenna did this for Margaret, so Margaret definitely couldn’t let Orlenna down.
"You still know that you should pretend. How clever!"
Julian poked Margaret’s forehead. Margret was unhappy.
"Orlenna said that a woman’s head can’t be poked. What if I become silly?"
"Actually, you are smart."
Julian said with a half-smile.
Margaret snorted and muttered in a low voice, "It is because of Jessie and Brittany. Orlenna isn’t sinister. But Jessie is. She even pretended to commit suicide."
Margaret didn’t even pretend to commit suicide when she was forced to marry Julian.
After all, Jessie thought too little.
Margaret would never try such tricks.
"It’s true that Jessie hurt you. I will handle this, and I won’t make you suffer."
Julian wanted to stroke Margaret’s head but was immediately slapped away when he put his hand on Margaret’s head.
"I told you not to touch me. You messed up my hair."
Then she lay down again and waved to Julian, "Hurry up and cover me with the quilt. I don’t believe that Jessie will listen to you. I can handle it myself. I don’t need your protection."
She was not weak and could take care of herself.
Orlenna told her since childhood that if someone bullied her, she should fight back.
She couldn’t just wait for the bad people to change for the better while doing nothing.
Margaret was upstairs and wrapped herself with the quilt.
While Orlenna, Brittany, Mary, and Sally sat on the sofa in the living room downstairs and all wore a faint smile.
"Jessie is Julian’s step- sister, and Margaret is my only daughter. This is her first child, and she was forced to get an abortion because of Jessie. It is your fault."
Orlenna sat elegantly on the sofa, drinking black tea. Seeing Hilla coming downstairs, she withdrew her gaze and smiled.
"But this is an accident. I believe that Brittany is reasonable and can comfort Margaret well. After all, she is now Julian’s wife. If Margaret is good, the Jorgansen family can be good, too."
Her meaning was obvious.
Orlenna was here to fight for Margaret.
Marry glanced at Brittany and smiled apologetically.
"Margaret is my daughter-in-law. I like her very much, and I will treat her as my own daughter."
Marry had a cold personality and lived on the mountain all year round.
She was also gentle. Although she did not care about her son, the Jorgansen family provided her with her life now.
And Julian was her reliance in the Jorgansen family, so she didn’t need to protect Jessie, an adopted daughter who had nothing to do with her.
"That’s not the truth. I think Jessie lives a much better life than Margaret here." As Orlenna spoke, she looked at Sally, who was sitting opposite her.
At first, Sally was resentful. But when she saw the warning in Brittany’s eyes, she immediately realized the seriousness.
Sally had no children, so she couldn’t inherit the properties of the Jorgansen family.
Sally raised Jessie and protected her, but by no means dared she offend Brittany.
And she couldn’t afford to offend any of the people sitting here.
Brittany was on her side at first.
But now, just because of Orlenna’s word, everyone had changed their mind.
Sally was not silly. She had lived a hard life in the Jorgansen family for many years, and she was good at observing.
"It’s Jessie’s fault. She is too young and naughty. She offended Margaret. However, she didn’t do it on purpose. She didn’t know that Margaret was pregnant."
Jessie killed the first offspring of the Jorgansen family.
The Jorgansen family was prosperous before, but there were no children after Julian’s generation, maybe because they did too many bad things.
Marcos had lost his fertility in an accident, and the others indulged themselves in having fun.
Julian’s child was the hope of the entire family. No one dared to hurt him.
"Do you mean that if Margaret isn’t pregnant, then Jessie can scold her whenever she wants?"
Orlena’s voice was not loud, but Sally looked embarrassed.
She said hurriedly, "I don’t mean that. Jessie has been obedient since childhood. She won’t scold anyone."
"It seems that it’s Margaret’s fault."
Orlenna smiled gently and looked at Marry.
Brittany was dignified and solemn. Orlenna was a junior to her.
No matter how powerful the Anderson family was, she still had to respect Brittany.
However, it was different for Marry and Sally.
They were of the same generation. If they could, they could bully Orlenna.
"Margaret is lively and well-behaved. I live on the mountain all year round. But every time I meet Margaret, she will make me happy. I like Margaret very much."
Marry replied to Orlenna.
They were shrewd.
Sally was more embarrassed. Jessie caused a huge problem for her.
