Chapter 297: The Dawn Star’s Wish (I)
Chapter 297: The Dawn Star’s Wish (I)
"Dearest, it’s a beautiful girl," Grandma Tree said as she held the baby that had just come out of Sisi’s womb. The baby came out clean because she had been cleansed using the water from the Origin Spring, and she cried out loud the moment she was born.
"Oh my, she’s already hungry?" Grandma smiled while making sure the baby was cleaned first before giving her to Sisi to breastfeed.
Jojo watched his baby sister, and his golden eyes glimmered. "Mommy! Mommy, open your eyes! I have a baby sister now!"
Jojo tried shaking his mother’s shoulder a few times, but she didn’t react. She had closed her eyes with a peaceful smile on her face.
"Mommy?" Jojo stopped getting excited after realizing that his mother didn’t move at all.
Then, right when he let go of her hand, Sisi’s hand, which had been patting Jojo’s head the whole time, flopped lifelessly.
"Mommy?" Jojo stared at his mother for a while, and then shook her shoulder as hard as he could just to wake her up. "Mommy, don’t fall asleep! Wake up! Wake up!!"
Jojo’s voice finally caught Grandma Tree’s attention. After cleaning the baby and wrapping her up with a soothing leaf, Grandma turned towards Jojo and asked, "What’s wrong, Little Dawn Star?"
"Mommy—Mommy doesn’t want to wake up!"
Grandma Tree’s breath hitched. She gently placed the baby on Sisi’s chest before checking her dearest granddaughter’s life force.
Grandma Tree bit her lip as she knew this was inevitable, but it still hurt her knowing that she couldn’t do anything to save her granddaughter.
"Little Dawn Star, your Mommy..." Grandma Tree paused for a second, taking a deep breath as she delivered the bad news. "...she is dead."
The moment Jojo heard that last word, his golden eyes shone brightly, and golden tears began to fall from the corners of his eyes.
"No... no... Mommy!" Jojo hugged his mother while wailing loudly, and the baby also cried upon hearing her big brother lamenting over their mother’s death. "Mommy, you can’t leave me. You... you said that you are going to accompany me until I’m big! And I’m not big yet!"
Jojo’s golden tears seeped into Sisi’s skin, and then Jojo suddenly heard the voice of a mature woman—but it wasn’t his mother.
"Do not weep, Sael..."
Jojo turned his head, still crying over his mother’s death, and saw a tall woman with long silver hair and a purple dress smiling at him.
The woman’s eyes were of different colors, with her right golden eye just like his, and a crimson left eye like his father’s.
The woman opened her arms and said, "Come here, Sael. Let me hug you first."
"Who... who are you?" Jojo asked. He looked around and realized that he was in a completely different place, with floating stars all around him. "Where is my Mommy and baby sister?!"
"Calm down, Sael. You are in my realm," the woman said. "The Moon Court."
Jojo looked back at the woman and asked, "And you are?"
"I am Selene, Goddess of the Moon," Selene introduced herself. "And I am the one who created you and your father."
Jojo was surprised at first, because his father always told him to pray to the Moon Goddess, but it was the first time he had seen her.
"Then, Goddess, can you help me?" Jojo said as he got up and walked towards her. He hugged her and said, "Jojo... Jojo will be good as long as Mommy comes back!"
"Oh, my sweet boy," Selene picked him up and carried him in her arms. "I am sorry, Sael. But that is impossible to do."
"W-why not? Daddy always told me that the Goddess is all-powerful!"
"That, I am, but your Mommy’s death is meant to happen. It is fate, and you cannot change fate," Selene said. But she noticed that Jojo was about to cry again, so she patted his back and added, "Jojo, do you know that you’ve met your mother in your previous life?"
Jojo wiped his golden tears and asked, "Previous life?"
"Mhm. Let me show you something."
Selene tapped one of the stars in front of her, and it turned into a screen that showed his past life.
On the screen, Jojo saw a tall and handsome man with golden eyes and silver hair just like him. However, Jojo was scared when looking at this man, because his eyes were so frightening, as if he could hurt anyone without thinking—something that his mother had told him never to do.
On the screen, this man with golden eyes had his hands trickling with blood, and there were countless dead humans and beastmen around him.
The scene was chilling—too chilling for a boy Jojo’s age. But he couldn’t take his eyes off the screen.
Then, a small faerie suddenly flew right in front of the man and told him,"Sael, stop this madness! Didn’t you promise me not to hurt anyone anymore!"
The handsome man smiled bitterly and replied,"It’s too late, little faerie. Everyone is targeting me right now, and I have to kill them all, or they’ll kill me first."
"But when will it end? I can’t bear seeing you like this!" the little faerie said. "Is there truly no way out of this? Is this how it all ends—with you killing everyone?"
"This is how it ends..." the man said. "The moment I gained access to my power, everyone began getting closer to me just so they could use me as a weapon. I’ve killed so many people just so I could form a connection. But those I saw as my mother, my siblings, my lovers—they were all lying to me just so they could use my power."
"Even my father... he has gone insane because of loneliness," the man said. "I am truly alone, little faerie."
"How can you say that when you have me?! Sael, I’ve been with you since you were just a baby. I’ve accompanied you throughout your childhood until you’re an adult now! You are never alone!"
