Chapter 2172 - 2149: They Hide in the Shadows, We Stand in the Light

Gao Yang gave his teammates a heads-up, then gently waved his hand and whispered, "Countdown, 3, 2, 1."

After the countdown, Gao Yang held his gun and darted forward. The enemy reacted, but not intensely, so Gao Yang flashed out again and just started shooting at all moving targets.

He took down a few people with the shotgun, waiting for Li Jinfang and the others to catch up from behind. The five of them fanned out to search and finish off the remaining enemies. When Gao Yang raised his left arm, signaled to stop, he hung the shotgun around his neck and pulled out a pistol with his right hand.

There were still two people, Gao Yang had already spotted them. He didn’t think there were any more threats, and it was time to capture someone alive for questioning.

Two people were hiding behind a car, firing wildly outside, but not hitting anyone. Gao Yang went over, bam bam, shooting each one in the right arm, then rushed over immediately.

Gao Yang rubbed his chin and said, "That order is way too vague, nothing is clear, but it’s certain they’re Mario’s guys. Ask them how they knew we were here."

Rafael asked a few more questions, then said in a low voice, "They don’t know, they just followed orders from above. They have no clue about the deeper connections."

Gao Yang said helplessly, "We can’t get any useful information, it’s like Mario’s been tracking us all along. Engaging in a fight on someone else’s home ground with a messenger is really tough. Forget it, we can’t stay here long, we made too much noise, let’s retreat quickly."

Gao Yang motioned to the group, then said into the radio, "Go start the car, finish off any wounded but not yet dead people."

After giving the order, Gao Yang casually shot and killed the two captives, shaking his head and saying, "Something still feels off."

Rafael softly said, "We haven’t warned Mario yet, like Ivan."

Gao Yang clapped his hands and said, "Let’s write something in blood, just write Mario, I will kill you."

After finishing, Gao Yang waved his hand and said, "Retreat, retreat, get out of here quickly."

Rafael stayed behind to write, while Gao Yang got in the car. After Rafael left a message for Mario, several vehicles sped off. Gao Yang said on the radio, "Let’s talk on the radio, how do you guys think the enemy found us?"

Glolov said, "Hard to say, but we can rule out the possibility of a traitor."

Gao Yang thought for a moment, then said, "Do you think it’s possible? Mario left some signal emitting device inside me. I was unconscious for quite a while, so even if something was done to me, I wouldn’t know."

"Impossible, Mario didn’t intend to let you leave. Since he didn’t plan to release you, nor expected you to be rescued, why would he install a signal emitting device on you?"

Gao Yang, troubled, said, "What about Skunk, Skunk, could it be on you?"

Gao Yang, amused and annoyed, said, "Idiot, is this the time for jokes? Let’s go, move on, when we get to Rome, we’ll scan Skunk, or test with a scanner to see if there’s a signal emitting device."

Mario’s headquarters was in Rome, where there were numerous targets to choose from. So, although they didn’t know what to do in Rome yet, it was best to get there as soon as possible.

They took turns driving along the way. No roads were blocked, and there were no pursuers. The journey was so calm that it seemed unreal, considering they had just come from a country with a massive shootout and many deaths.

They hardly rested along the way. By dawn, they arrived in the Roman region, almost nearing Rome, but still about a dozen kilometers away.

Gao Yang glanced at his watch and said, "I’m a bit tired. Not in the right state to enter Rome now. Once in Rome, many things will become inconvenient. I’ll contact Ivan, see where we can stay."

Just then, Yake said on the radio, "I feel something’s wrong, we might have been followed."
