Chapter 212 - 213: Short-lived Ghost
"Never mind the house full of people doomed to die young. Isn’t even this whole ’luxurious family’ act just a sham?"
Su Nian’s expression was disdainful and her tone was arrogant. She already had a domineering personality, and the lady’s condescending attitude only served to annoy her further.
"What nonsense are you spouting!"
The man, who had been silent until now, slammed his hand on the table and shot to his feet.
Even his mustache was trembling, a clear sign of his fury.
"So young, yet spouting such nonsense! You have no manners!"
Su Nian glanced at him sideways and had a sudden realization. ’With an attitude like this, are they really trying to find someone to save their daughter?’
’They clearly have ulterior motives...’
The woman kept hurling insults, her noblewomanly air completely gone. Looking at her now, she was nothing more than a common shrew.
The man, as if provoked, slammed his hand on the coffee table again.
"Enough! Get out!"
But Su Nian noticed his hand was trembling slightly. It looked like he’d hit the table too hard, and his hand was now swollen.
Su Nian’s lips curved into a smirk. ’Pathetic...’
"You’re just a common charlatan, yet you dare to offend me? Who gave you the nerve!"
Su Nian cringed. Even now, the man was still acting all high and mighty.
She extended a delicate, slender hand and slapped the coffee table. The motion seemed light and effortless, but the table let out a dull THUD, and cracks immediately spiderwebbed across its surface.
It was enough to show everyone just how much power was behind that seemingly gentle slap.
The air fell silent. The two insufferably noisy socialites had finally shut their mouths.
They stared, dumbfounded, at the result of Su Nian’s slap. Only Qing Ran remained unperturbed, stroking his beard with an amiable expression.
"Sir," Su Nian began, "what exactly did you mean by that? Care to explain?"
Her stunningly beautiful face, in that moment, seemed inexplicably menacing to the man.
He swallowed hard. "Security!"
The words had barely left his mouth when several men brandishing steel batons rushed in.
Seeing them, the man regained a sliver of his confidence.
Before a baton could even swing her way, Su Nian snatched it from one of the guards. The man froze for a second, but his training quickly kicked in, and he immediately adopted a defensive stance.
What he didn’t expect, however, was for Su Nian to snap the steel baton in two right in front of everyone.
The clear imprints of her slender fingers were visible on the metal, mirrored by the look of utter shock on the guard’s face.
"What’s wrong? Scared, Mr. Kidney-Problems?"
Su Nian sneered.
Visibly, the guard whose baton she’d taken grew flustered.
"What are you talking about! Who—who has kidney problems?!"
"You, of course! Mr. Kidney-Problems!"
"Surely you haven’t forgotten what happened when you were twenty? You cheated with a married woman, and her husband destroyed one of your kidneys."
Even the ever-composed Qing Ran couldn’t help but blink. He was getting on in years, but he’d never heard a story so outrageous.
He saw the guard’s face instantly flush beet-red—the unmistakable look of someone whose deepest secret had just been exposed.
’Qing Ran could only think that he really hadn’t seen it all yet.’
The man, who prided himself on his high-class status, was practically fuming. This was utterly humiliating!
Ignoring the guard with the kidney problem, he barked another order.
"Forget her lies! Get her! Throw this charlatan out!"
Su Nian scanned the room and her eyes landed on the second guard, who was glaring at her like a tiger stalking its prey.
"Hey, Mr. Octopus," she said. "You think you’re alright? Did you really think no one would find out you were sleeping with another man’s wife?"
The most menacing-looking guard froze, even stealing a cautious glance toward the lady of the house.
Su Nian then turned to the third.
"No way, no way... Does your wife know she’s married to a gay man? Does your mother know her son is bent?"
Su Nian’s gaze shifted to the fourth guard, but this time, the man who had been ready to charge forward couldn’t help but take a step back.
’Everyone has secrets. What if she just blurts mine out like that?’
’How could I ever show my face again?!’
The man on the sofa watched his guards shrink back, his face ashen with fury.
But when his eyes met Su Nian’s mocking smirk, he too fell shamefully silent.
’He was terrified she would reveal his secret, too.’
