Chapter 954 954: The Emperor's Son (1)

Chapter 954 954: The Emperor's Son (1)

While the high-stakes confrontation between the big three took various sharp turns, the grueling battle involving Grey's squad and friends against the remaining thousands of soldiers still raged with relentless intensity.

Scarlet was pushing her limits, going all out with her searing flames.

She had already sustained a few minor injuries here and there, but they were being systematically mended by Vanica, who remained stationed on the wind bird high above.

Greg continued to blitz through the ranks with his staggering speed—cutting down adversaries as if it were a routine chore.

Jay was struggling slightly under the weight of the numbers, but with constant aerial support from Raze, the pressure on him eased considerably.

His water tentacles and fluid blades were not to be scoffed at; they ripped through armor and flesh alike as though they were made of thin paper.

Lyra was dispatching her foes with a touch of flair, her gigantic wind dragon manifesting at intervals to clear wide swaths of the field.

She didn't look pressured in the least.

The same held true for Dante, who kept sinking groups of men into the churning earth.

Positioned ahead of him was a gargantuan earth golem of his own creation, wreaking havoc with devastating strength.

No matter the barrage of spells or steel the enemies hurled, they were barely able to chip the stone giant, which continued to swat them away like mere flies.

Its massive hands swung in wide arcs, turning anyone in their path into paste, while a single sweep of its heavy feet created a displaced rush of wind strong enough to knock men senseless.

Singlehandedly, Dante was dominating his sector of the battlefield, ensuring no enemy could even draw near.

He remained unnervingly calm, mirroring Kael's cold composure.

Nearby, Charlotte danced between the enemy lines with a barrage of hydro-kinetic strikes.

She pummeled the opposition repeatedly, firing off water cannons, bullets, spears, and jagged spikes without pause.

Men dropped like flies under the combined assault.

Even so, the initial five thousand soldiers had only been reduced by another thousand.

Four thousand men still remained—a staggering force that refused to break.

Even though the squad was being backed from the sky, healed by Vanica, and occasionally shielded by Arthur's sturdy barriers, the physical toll of the prolonged engagement was finally catching up to them.

It was inevitable; they had only just returned from a prior mission when they were instantly summoned to this conflict.

Their mana reserves were beginning to dwindle.

If something didn't shift the momentum soon, it would devolve into a pure battle of endurance—a contest where, despite their skill, the Velzoria Kingdom might ultimately lose due to sheer exhaustion.

Sol's eyes widened in sheer horror as the twenty chains suddenly rocketed toward her.

She understood how powerful the Generals were, but she hadn't anticipated such a massive, synchronized volley.

How was she supposed to block or even evade an attack of this scale?

It was simply too much for her to handle alone.

Fortunately, she didn't have to face it unprotected.

A shimmering bubble of mana instantly encased her from all sides.

The chains crashed into the translucent surface with a deafening roar.

For a fleeting moment, it looked like the shield would hold, but the next second, jagged cracks spiderwebbed across its exterior.

The sheer force of the slam sent Sol, still trapped within the bubble, flying backward.

She ricocheted across the jagged terrain like a bouncy ball, the kinetic energy rattling her bones.

Blood rolled down her lips as the protective sphere finally shattered into mere fragments.

Despite the impact, the chains were still pursuing her.

Slamming her palms into the ground, her runes instantly flared to life.

From the dirt, a surging wall of earth rose up like a fortress, standing between her and the metallic serpents.

BAM—!

The wall trembled violently as the chains connected with its surface.

Fissures appeared across the stone face, and within mere moments, the entire structure crumbled to the ground.

But Sol was no longer there.

She had already moved away, slipping into the shadows just as the chains burrowed into the empty earth with a loud crash.

Rolling to her knees, Sol panted heavily, her gaze fixed on the General who continued to grin at her with predatory delight.

Before he could launch a follow-up strike, a loud crash echoed through the air, drawing his attention.

He watched in surprise as the bald-headed General was flung out of the sky by a superior force.

Kael landed smoothly on the scorched earth.

Without a second of hesitation, he blurred forward—but not toward the General he had just grounded. Instead, he charged toward his friends to bolster their flagging line.

Seeing the maneuver, the cracked-toothed General's chains immediately surged into the air, lashing out at Kael with blazing speed to intercept him.

But Kael was faster.

Lightning ran across his frame like living snakes as he weaved through the narrow gaps while speeding toward Sol.

Within a second, he was before her; he reached out, grabbing her by the waist before spinning around and launching a massive pillar of lightning toward the chain General.

Blitzing to the side, the commander barely reacted as the pillar neared.

He quickly commanded his chains to wrap themselves in front of him just in time.

WAM—!

The pillar smashed into his defenses, and instantly, the metal cracked like the General's own teeth.

The force sent his body hurtling backward, skipping across the ground like a stone on water.

Digging his chains into the earth, the General came to a grinding halt.

A frown was fixed on his face as he slowly rose to his feet.

The bald-headed General stood as well.

Meanwhile, the short General didn't even bother to react, watching the scene calmly.

"Ah… it's been ages since I last had fun on the battlefield," the bald-headed General smirked widely as he rose to his full height.

The short General strolled over, and soon, the three Generals were side-by-side once more.

Viktor followed suit, and soon, he was standing with Kael and Sol again.

They all stared at the Generals with fierce, unwavering gazes.

"If you had so much fun, then get ready for more, you bald-headed demon."

Kael frowned. 'Wait. I didn't say that.'

Twirling around, three figures could be seen sauntering onto the battlefield as if they owned the entire world.

It seemed like the fighting paused for a moment; the individual who had spoken possessed a voice that carried over the field as if he had spoken into a microphone.

The familiarity of the tone caused Dante and Lyra to freeze in their tracks as they slowly turned around.

There he was. Draped in crimson robes while walking side-by-side with the—the—the Emperor?

Grey Dawn, Julius Chandler, and Captain Amir walked into the fray with auras that seemed to speak for themselves.

Grey and Amir stopped moving, but the Emperor sauntered forward, passing by Sol and Viktor.

Kael stared at him with a look of pure confusion in his eyes.

"Shouldn't you be resting? Huh, old geezer!"

Grey's eyes widened. 'Er? How is he speaking to the Emperor so casually?'

Julius' smile widened as he assessed Kael's condition before looking past him to stare at the three Generals.

"How could I rest easy when my only son is risking his life on the battlefield for the whole Kingdom?"

"...."

"WHAT?!" Grey shouted in pure, undiluted shock.
