Chapter 942: A Pain in the Ass
Chapter 942: A Pain in the Ass
Chapter 942
The three Generals sat motionless upon their steeds a short distance away from the primary battlefield.
The cracked-toothed General’s expression had fluctuated so frequently during the skirmish that he likely didn’t even know how to react anymore.
In contrast, the other two maintained more neutral countenances.
Well, the bald-headed General certainly did; the third commander’s face was completely obscured behind a heavy helmet.
Whatever he was thinking, or even where his gaze was directed, remained a total mystery.
"I thought they would be dead by now," the bald-headed General muttered, a disappointed look crossing his features as he watched his soldiers dropping like flies.
The engagement had persisted for five minutes, and they had already lost perhaps five hundred men.
Out of ten thousand, such a figure seemed insignificant initially.
However, if the situation wasn’t rectified soon, those numbers would steadily climb until they found themselves at a severe disadvantage.
A frown creased the bald man’s forehead for a moment as he observed Kael, who remained perfectly and utterly still.
The Lunaria Demon seemed content to simply manipulate the battlefield from the sidelines without fully committing to the fray.
Shadow portals manifested randomly, swallowing incoming projectiles and redirecting that lethal energy back at the soldiers.
Occasionally, if he appeared particularly annoyed, he would launch a few lightning arrows through those same portals.
Yet, he still hadn’t stepped forward.
Any mage foolish enough to charge his position was brutally eliminated by a mere snap of his fingers.
This simple gesture caused shadow portals to yawn open directly behind them or beneath their feet, spewing concentrated lightning strikes.
’Why hasn’t he joined the fight yet? Is he conserving his strength for us?’ the bald General wondered, his confusion growing.
’... If he continues to hold back, he might lose a member of his squad. So why isn’t he doing anything?’
Despite the visible struggle of his teammates, Kael remained perfectly composed.
Above them, Raze hovered on the wind bird, providing support wherever it was required.
Having copied the wind affinity, he had also managed to replicate Greg’s lightning ability, mainly because Kael adamantly refused to let Raze touch him—ever.
’He’s just like Grey. Tch! It’s not like I would keep the power forever; it’s only for twenty-four hours, so why are they being so stingy about me borrowing their strength?’ Raze mused, a dejected look momentarily crossing his face.
Scanning the area for anyone attempting to flank his friends, he sent down a flurry of wind swords and electrical slashes.
With his and Arthur’s combined efforts, the others were managing to survive.
They were holding their ground, but for how much longer, they couldn’t say.
Hopefully, reinforcements would arrive soon; otherwise, they were effectively toast.
’Wait. Why hasn’t the Emperor released Grey yet? Or have they simply not received word of this invasion?’

Jay, currently embroiled on the frontlines, was in a precarious situation like everyone else.
Water tentacles flailed aggressively around him while he gripped a pair of shimmering water blades.
He stood ready to face the hundreds of men surrounding him.
Deflecting a wind sword with one blade, a liquid tentacle lashed out, severing an enemy mage’s limbs.
Contrary to what the soldiers had assumed, these tentacles were as sharp as any steel edge.
The man’s stumps oozed blood as screams of agony rippled through the air.
Jay didn’t have the luxury of slowing his pace; he bolted deeper into the enemy ranks, his eyes focusing and zooming in on his targets.
It was time to lock in! Inclining his head to the side, he avoided an ice spear aimed at his throat.
Before he could launch a counter-offensive, however, his attention snapped to the ground beneath his feet, which was rumbling violently.
Springing upward immediately, he narrowly avoided dozens of jagged earth spikes that burst from the soil where he had stood only a heartbeat before.
He breathed a sigh of relief.
He had been so close to being impaled if he hadn’t been discerning enough.
Spinning like a wheel in mid-air, he unleashed dozens of water bullets toward the ranks of men below him.
They dropped down with loud, heavy thuds.
He landed smoothly before sprinting forward again, his momentum unchecked.
Twirling to the side, he narrowly dodged a punch aimed directly at his face—a fist wrapped in dense, jagged earth.
The air reverberated with a low, concussive boom from the force of the missed strike.
The liquid tentacles around him lashed forward, trying to tear through the man’s stony defenses to no avail.
Suddenly, as Jay spun around him, the enemy mage was instantly impaled by a hundred wind swords from above.
Crimson droplets burst out in waves as the man’s eyes widened in agonizing pain.
Seizing the opening, Jay hurled a water blade from his hand, sending it flying forward with blazing speed.
Tchaaak—!
It tore through the gut of one of the approaching soldiers.
Rushing forward again, he was now surrounded by even more men, but he didn’t seem to be fazed at all.
All he did was twirl around like a lethal tornado of some sorts, and the water tentacles around him did their work.
They lashed out angrily, ripping through limbs and heads, clearing a grisly path.
He kept twirling like a ballet dancer while his tentacles performed their gruesome task.
Nobody could come close to him at all as crimson sprayed through the air repeatedly, followed by screams that shook the ground.
Jay was entirely focused, his brows calm despite the carnage.
Forced to abandon close-range combat, the men decided to attack from afar.
A barrage of ice spears closed in on him with deadly velocity.
Before he had the chance to move, however, a shimmering bubble materialized all around him.
It absorbed the impact of all the frozen projectiles, though the force shook the very soil beneath his feet.
Heavy vibrations passed through his body as he cast a quick, appreciative glance toward the sky.
Nodding at Arthur, the barrier shattered like brittle glass the moment the barrage ceased.
Now, water gathered around Jay with stunning speed as he looked at the hundreds of men gearing up for another massive attack that was surely designed to take him out.
Pointing his hands forward, the water—including the flailing tentacles—gathered and condensed around his limbs.
"Water magic; Serpent of the Sea."
Screech—!
BOOOOM—!
A massive, leviathan-like water snake burst from his hands and lunged forward with blazing speed.
Crashing through the ranks of mages, the leviathan tore through their bodies as if they were merely pieces of parchment.
With that one strike, over two hundred men were decimated, their bodies broken by the sheer pressure of the spell.
They all dropped dead, leaving Jay panting softly in mild exhaustion.
He looked around him only to see more men steadily approaching, ready to take the positions of the soldiers he had just eliminated.
’Ugh... this will be a pain in the ass...’
