Chapter 934: Jaws of Death (2)

Chapter 934

Lifting his hand into the air, one of the three generals—a man whose bald head caught the light—signaled for the others to halt their advance.

Since a considerable gap existed between the commanders and the vast host behind them, there was no risk of a collision; the trio stopped instantly while the massive army slowly ground to a standstill.

Every eye directed its gaze toward the sky to witness the massive wind construct hurtling forward with blazing velocity.

Within mere minutes, the bird abruptly halted five meters away from the three generals, hovering steadily in the air.

Now, the countenances of the seven figures were on full display—and likewise, those of the enemy leaders.

The bald-headed man sat in the center, flanked by the other two.

He appeared noticeably older than his companions, with deep wrinkles etched across his face.

The general on his left exuded a sinister pressure as his emerald eyes glared at the seven atop the wind bird.

He beamed at them, but his teeth displayed several jagged cracks that seemed quite unnatural to everyone watching.

The final general on the right was notably short—almost like a dwarf.

Almost! In his grasp, a spear shone with a raw, primal energy.

For the first time—well, with the exception of their experiences with Grey—the teens were witnessing a mage who seemingly welcomed the idea of utilizing physical weapons.

They couldn’t even be certain he was a mage to begin with; he wore bulky, heavy armor over his frame that glistened under the rays of the slightly peeking sun.

In short, he looked like a true general of war compared to the other two, who were casually dressed in simple robes.

Soon enough, the wind transport fluttered toward the ground, hovering just a few inches above the soil while its massive wings scattered dust in all directions.

Kael walked forward, prompting Raze to step backward, allowing the Lunaria Demon to stand atop the wind bird’s head while the others flanked him.

"What is this? Why the sudden movement into our kingdom?" Kael inquired, a dangerous twinkle in his eyes.

The Generals cast a swift, knowing glance at one another before the bald-headed man decided to offer a reply. "What does it look like to you, Lunaria Demon?"

"This certainly bears the resemblance of an invasion to me, but I wish to give you all the benefit of the doubt. I am guessing that the Drakesville Kingdom isn’t foolish enough to initiate an attack against us, right?" Kael asked, maintaining a polite but sharp smile.

For a brief second, the face of the general with the cracked teeth darkened with a slight frown before his features lifted back into a beaming, eerie grin.

The bald-headed commander nodded slowly, like a man enjoying a specific melody playing in his ears.

While still nodding, he surveyed his companions before glancing behind him at the massive army stretching toward the horizon.

Then, he turned back to look at Kael with a stoic expression.

"Ten thousand versus a measly seven. Yet you claim we are the foolish ones? Hm..." the bald leader uttered, his scalp glistening under the sun almost as intensely as the weapon held by the short general.

Kael crossed his arms calmly over his chest.

"That is precisely why I say you guys are foolish, right? I know the Drakesville Kingdom isn’t reckless by nature, which was why we didn’t arrive with a larger force. I figured this could all be settled with a simple... talk." He narrowed his eyes significantly at that last word.

The short general lifted a brow beneath his metallic helmet.

"Talk?" His gruff voice slid out from behind the visor. "It seems you all do not realize the gravity of the situation on the ground here."

Greg finally had enough, shifting forward with an impatient stride.

"I want to know. How foolish can you all be to attack a Kingdom where Kael and the powerful Emperor reside? Isn’t that complete madness?"

"... More like brazen," Raze chuckled, trying to find humor in his own joke despite the mounting pressure.

The three Generals glanced at each other.

As if communicating through a silent mental link, they finally allowed a break in their composed expressions.

A slight chuckle escaped them first, followed by a full-blown roar of laughter from the trio that seemed to shake the very ground beneath their steeds.

The general with the cracked teeth paused his mirth and glared behind him at the host.

Receiving the unspoken signal, the entire ten-thousand-man army rippled with deep, menacing laughter that rolled over the plains, sounding like a massive congregation at a dark concert.

Smiling broadly, the cracked-toothed commander looked away and continued his amusement for several seconds until the bald-headed leader lifted his hand and closed his fist in the air, silencing every single man simultaneously.

Then, looking directly at Greg, he tilted his head curiously.

"Powerful Emperor? If my memory and intelligence serve me correctly, your Emperor is currently on his deathbed—severely weakened from the Otherworlders’ invasion."

Stroking his chin in deep thought, he added,

"... Or isn’t he the one suffering with a cracked mana core now?" The bald-headed General inquired, a sinister smirk stretching across his face.

"...."

Kael elicited no outward emotion at the commander’s words, but the six individuals behind him were instantly shaken by the revelation.

A cracked mana core?

A mana core was the essential housing for every mage’s power, formed at the young age of twelve to allow the harnessing of the beautiful energy of mana.

It was the core that permitted one to create and cast spells, truly deeming them a mage.

Having no core, or possessing a destroyed one, would result in one being tagged a cripple.

And now they were hearing that the Emperor himself had a cracked core?

Though not entirely destroyed, a cracked core was a death sentence for a mage’s career.

He—he—he might not even have much life left in him, let alone the strength to fight.

’Could that mean that one of those zodiacs utilized a soul attack on him?’ Scarlet wondered inwardly, though she steadfastly refused to let her turbulent thoughts show on her face.

"Knowing this," the short General continued, his voice echoing from his helm,

"How do you think we would ever pass up on this sweet, sweet opportunity to attack and conquer your realm? Especially since there are no more powerful protectors left to defend this great kingdom."

The cracked-teeth General snarled, his expression predatory.

"We thought the Otherworlders would wipe you all out the same way they did the Clover Kingdom, but damn, you guys are resilient. So, we are here to finish the job the Otherworlders started."

Kael listened attentively, a cold, clinical look settling on his features.

A few seconds passed in a tense, heavy silence before he finally exhaled.

He leaped off from the wind bird and landed smoothly on the parched ground with calm precision.

Straightening his robes, he began striding forward to meet the men while the clouds overhead began rumbling with sudden, violent thunder.

"Fine then. Let’s get this over and done with."

BANG—! Screech—!
