Chapter 152 - 154: On the Move
Chapter 152 - 154: On the Move
Somewhere near the top of the mountains stood a large mansion. The peculiar part about this is that it was the only mansion in the area, and its interior was vast and imposing.
Zooming in towards the place, inside this massive living room a man was limping slightly as he lounged on the couch, casually eating chips while watching a K-drama.
What he was watching appeared to be a romance scene, with both actors standing on a bridge and are moments away from sharing a kiss.
Completely absorbed in the moment, he slowly raised the hand holding a single chip toward his mouth.
Cling
The phone on the table rang thus breaking the momentum of his enjoyment. He glanced at it, his eyes flashing with irritation as he reached out.
After seeing the caller’s name, he accepted the call feeling tired and lazy knowing that he is going to work again.
"Yes what is it?" the man asked, his voice neither loud nor soft.
Then a woman’s voice came through the line as she delivered her report.
"Captain we have an urgent situation, there appears to have been a large-scale incident near the northern mountain district. We received reports indicating a powerful explosion that caused heavy casualties."
Hearing this, his brows furrowed as he wondered why she was reporting this to him. Their organization was not something that could be deployed with such an excuse.
If they were, then what was the use of the police? Besides, they handled matters far bigger than what ordinary people dealt with.
But he knew there had to be more to it, so he turned off the television and replied, "Continue."
"Yes sir." The woman gulped softly.
"We have already reviewed the early data and dispatched one of our field agents to the area. During the investigation, we discovered something we have been tracking for a long time,"
She said as her hands moved across the keyboard, multiple windows popping up on the screen.
Satellite images, CCTV footage, reports, and data, everything that could be gathered was displayed across the screen.
Hearing her last statement he stood up with a grim expression, his fist tightening unconsciously.
"Are you sure?" he asked to confirm it.
"Yes, and it appears there is a branch stationed here, right in Iloilo Province," she stated without a single ounce of uncertainty.
Hearing this report his mind began to clear up, while also feeling something heavy settle on his shoulders.
The organization they were talking about was called, ’Black Orchid’. Like a rare flower that blooms in darkness, no one in the world knows where this organization truly resides.
Yet across the globe, they are the largest crime syndicate.
"Just how can you be so sure it was them? You do know how hard it is to even catch a glimpse of them, right?"
"I know Captain. That is why I reported this directly to you, when I discovered some clues, if I had reported it to headquarters, I know that they would have dismissed it as a joke due to the lack of concrete evidence," she replied.
"And your basis for reaching this conclusion?" he asked.
"Well according to my investigation so far, the man named Angelo Rivas, a well-known gang boss was once just an ordinary gang member. He had no outstanding qualities and zero notable achievements for nearly thirty years of his life. Then in a single night, he suddenly became the leader of an entire gang."
"Isn’t that just norma—" he did not finish as the woman continued.
"I am not finished Captain. After the reports came back from one of our field agents who was dispatched to their hidden base, we found some document. On that paper was the symbol of a black orchid, and the paper was dated back twenty-five years ago."
She then zoomed into the image showing when it was printed, "The date perfectly aligns with when he rose to power. Not only that, but he was also supplied with weapons, money, and especially drugs that are reserved only for members," she said.
Hearing this, the captain wondered whether it was a trap or not, since there was no way such a powerful organization, one that was even afraid to leave a single trace behind would make this kind of mistake.
Moreover, the Black Orchid symbol had been overused by other groups to confuse organizations like theirs.
This kind of deception happened all the time, often causing them to waste time and resources.
Because of that, simply finding the symbol was not enough to confirm it was Black Orchid. It had to be supported by additional evidence.
"So where is this member?" he asked as he walked outside the huge mansion and looked toward the horizon.
"Well he is currently on the run, and since you are the closest high-ranking officer in the area, it is the perfect situation for you, Captain."
Then his phone rang, and the location along with a summarized report appeared on the screen.
Shortly after, the sound of a helicopter slowly closing in could be heard. As he read the section about slavery and organ trafficking, his eyes turned cold and fierce.
Then upon receiving the location, that bloodthirsty gaze shifted into surprise.
"Wow, isn’t this such a surprise," he exclaimed.
The location turned out to be the same place where his brother in law, Michael, the police officer was stationed at.
"I already deployed Cara earlier and now this? It seems there is more to that place than I thought," he uttered.
As the helicopter hovered above a ladder was lowered, and with one hand he grabbed onto it as he was lifted into the air.
Jeff who had just returned home after crossing the mountain, was about to slip inside when he suddenly stopped.
Looking up he noticed a large plume of black smoke rising into the sky. Because of the distance it appeared small, but for it to be visible from so far away meant the explosion must have been massive.
Without any hesitation, he headed straight toward that location.
After a few minutes he arrived and saw the aftermath, discovering countless casualties. He did not get too close as he hid within the shadows of the trees, blending in as he observed the scene.
His golden eyes shone as he saw many police officers who had lost their lives. He also realized that the man involved was the father of the gangster he had killed.
"People like this must be eradicated."
"If only I had arrived earlier, I could have caught them," he said blaming himself.
But he was already too late to change anything. By the time he arrived, several of the wounded officers were already being assisted by the ambulances.
As he remained above the ground, he discovered something unusual. In the surrounding area, there were people hiding in the darkness, silently watching the scene unfold.
"Are they the cause of this?" he wondered.
So he widened his hearing making it perked up when finally he heard one of them speak.
"Report, the target appears to have escaped. The rubble has already been cleared and it seems they really took the passage to escape."
"Affirmative, the rest of you just stand by to observe and protect those officers from any more problems. Scouts are still on the lookout and the captain will be arriving any second for support," the voice from the earpiece replied.
"Affirmative."
After replying, he then relayed the command to the others.
They melted back into the shadows hiding among trees and dark corners, while some blended in with the police.
