Chapter 382: Romantic Dinner
Chapter 382: Romantic Dinner
Charlotte’s POV
I couldn’t begin to put into words the rush of emotions that swelled inside me as I watched the expression on Jack’s face shift—first from disbelief, then to something softer, something almost tender—the moment I told him I was pregnant with his child. For a heartbeat, the world seemed to stand still between us. His eyes, wide with shock, slowly filled with a warmth I hadn’t seen in a long time.
I was afraid it would scare him away—that he wasn’t ready to be a father—but the look on his face eased every fear. He wanted this too, and that made me feel whole.
I never imagined I’d feel this kind of happiness again, not after everything we’d been through. And yet, we were standing on the edge of a second chance—one I thought we had long missed. The past, with all its pain and misunderstandings, suddenly felt like it was fading into something more distant, less powerful. I was giving myself the chance to be with him again... and this time, it wasn’t just for me—it was for the child growing inside me.
Madeline had just left for Archois earlier that morning. My brother had come to pick her up, and although she tried to hide it, I could tell part of her wanted to stay a little longer. She loved the villa and enjoyed the quiet routines we had created during her stay. But duty called her home—back to her grandfather’s estate, back to the busy life that waited for her there.
As I stood by the window and watched their car disappear into the distance, I felt a bittersweet tug in my chest. I would miss her presence in the house—her warmth, her laughter, her strength. But in the quiet that followed, I turned back to Jack, and my hand instinctively moved to rest on my belly.
A new Chapter was beginning... not just for me, but for all of us.
"Are you okay if we stay at my mom’s place for the time being?" Jack asked gently as he took a step closer, his voice low and filled with concern. "I just need to finish something important here. After that, we’ll head back to Archois."
I looked up at him, and without hesitation, I reached for his hand. "Jack," I said softly, my eyes meeting his, "I don’t care where we are—as long as I’m with you, it already feels like home. It always has. Every time you hold me, it’s like the world makes sense again."
His expression shifted as something flickered in his eyes—something deep and tender—and in the very next second, he pulled me into his arms like he’d been waiting a lifetime to do it. His embrace was strong, grounding, and full of promises neither of us had spoken aloud yet.
"Same here," he murmured against my hair. "I don’t care if we’re in Magnolia, Archois, or even Barcelonia. None of that matters—not really. What matters is you. As long as you’re with me, my love, I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be."
I smiled as I rested my cheek against his chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. For a moment, the chaos of the world melted away, and it was just the two of us, bound by love, hope, and a future we were finally brave enough to claim.
"But I know how much your café means to you," he added after a beat, his fingers brushing a strand of hair behind my ear. "You’ve poured your heart into it, and I want you to keep chasing that dream. Just tell me what you want, Charlotte, and I’ll make it happen. I’ll move mountains if I have to."
Before I could even respond, he leaned down and kissed me, slow and sure, like he meant every word, like he was sealing every promise with the press of his lips. And in that kiss, I felt the beginning of everything we had been fighting for.
"Do you think the security guards of your mansion would allow me to get inside your property?" Jack asked as he drove uphill.
"Don’t be silly, you are with me, besides, I already informed the butler you will be in the mansion in and out from now on," I responded, and he slowly took my hand while his other hand was holding the steering wheel.
The days passed in a blur, each one filled with quiet contentment. I was happy—truly happy—to be with Jack. He often accompanied me to the Divenson mansion, supporting me even during the mundane parts of my day, and on other days, I stayed at his place in the city. His condominium, perched in the heart of Archois, was sleek and modern—one of the most luxurious addresses in the entire city. It felt like stepping into another world, one where we could just be ourselves.
But today was different. I couldn’t reach Jack all day, and as the hours stretched on without a word from him, worry crept in. I tried not to overthink, but a part of me couldn’t help imagining the worst. When his call finally came late in the afternoon, relief washed over me, but it was quickly followed by frustration. I almost snapped, but I reminded myself that he was juggling a lot and I needed to be patient.
"I want to take you to dinner tonight," he said gently. "I know I’ve been swamped and forgot to message you, but that doesn’t mean I wasn’t thinking about you. You’re always on my mind."
His words, sincere and unhurried, softened my heart. Just like that, my anger melted away.
"Okay," I replied quietly. "See you at dinner."
He ended the call in a rush—the background noise told me his restaurant was packed—and I smiled to myself, realizing we were both chasing our dreams, doing what we love.
I didn’t expect him to show up so soon, especially not before I could finish checking the inventory report. But there he was, waiting by the door, looking handsome and tired but smiling at me like I was the only person that mattered.
"I don’t have time to change," I said, slightly flustered, as he pulled me close and kissed me on the lips.
"You don’t need to," he whispered. "You look stunning. Whatever you wear, you’re beautiful, Charlotte."
His words turned my cheeks warm. I followed him to the car, still half in disbelief that he had come for me despite his hectic day.
As we drove, I noticed the city lights fading in the distance and a familiar road unfolding ahead.
"You’re taking me somewhere far?" I asked, eyeing the turns that led away from downtown.
"Yeah," he replied with a quiet smile. "Tonight’s special."
When I saw the road begin to climb and the city slowly shrink behind us, my heart skipped.
"Oh... you’re taking me to Archois Peak Restaurant?" I breathed, my eyes widening.
He didn’t need to answer. The gentle squeeze of my hand and the quiet pride in his smile told me everything. Nestled atop the highest point in the city, Archois Peak was one of the most exclusive restaurants in the region—a place known for its breathtaking views and unforgettable moments. And tonight, he was taking me there.
"Oh... why does it feel like we’re the only guests here?" I asked softly as we stepped inside, my voice echoing slightly in the vast, elegant space. My brows furrowed in wonder—Archois Peak was always bustling with diners from across the city and even neighboring towns, yet tonight, it felt like time had paused just for us.
Jack smiled, his hand gently guiding me forward. "It seems this night belongs to us."
As we moved deeper into the restaurant, I could hardly believe what I was seeing. The atmosphere was nothing short of magical. Soft lights glowed overhead, casting a golden shimmer on the walls, and fresh blooms adorned every corner—roses, lilies, and peonies, their fragrance dancing in the air around us. The romantic ambiance wrapped around me like a warm embrace.
At the center of the room stood a single table, perfectly set and illuminated by the flicker of candlelight. I gasped quietly when I realized it had all been arranged for us. The tablecloth was ivory silk, the crystal glasses sparkled under the glow, and at the center was a simple yet beautiful floral arrangement. Everything looked straight out of a dream.
Jack pulled out a chair and waited for me to sit. I looked at him, my heart fluttering, then took my seat, still absorbing the surreal beauty of the moment. He joined me, his smile calm, content, and filled with something deeper—something that made my chest tighten with emotion.
As if on cue, a group of waiters emerged from the kitchen in synchronized procession, each carrying a dish. It felt like a royal parade, and my eyes widened as they carefully placed the plates before us.
I blinked in disbelief. Every single dish—each one my favorite.
"You remembered," I murmured, looking up at him in awe.
"Of course I did," he said with a soft laugh. "How could I forget what you love?"
Before I could respond, soft music floated through the air. A violinist stepped forward from the shadows, joined by a guitarist and a vocalist who began to sing a familiar love song—our song.
I sat there, speechless, overwhelmed by the beauty and thoughtfulness of it all. Jack reached across the table and took my hand in his, his thumb brushing lightly against my skin.
"I know I’ve been busy," he said, his voice low and sincere, "but tonight, I wanted to remind you that no matter how crazy life gets... I’ll always make time for you."
And in that moment, under the soft glow of candlelight and the tender hum of music, I realized—this wasn’t just dinner. It was a promise.
