Chapter 724 - 725: Not to Be Repeated
Dan Lingling forced a smile, "Yes, I know, I was just making small talk, Secretary Gu, don’t be so nervous."
Gu Mian didn’t respond, but quietly nodded, opening the door to the conference room, "Let’s go, Miss Lingling, the others are waiting."
...
After school, Di Xiaxia couldn’t help feeling anxious. She wanted to call Di Mingzhe, but guessed that he wouldn’t be by his phone at this moment.
Unable to think of a better solution, she simply went back home with Di Jinxuan, knowing that Di Mingzhe would contact her once he was free.
As lunchtime approached, Di Xiaxia did indeed receive a call from Di Mingzhe.
Picking up the phone, Di Mingzhe’s pleasant voice came through gently, "I have a social engagement tonight, and will come home late. Can you eat alone?"
"Mm," Di Xiaxia nodded, "I’m at the Di’s house. You don’t have to worry about me."
"Good girl," A hint of amusement colored Di Mingzhe’s voice.
Nevertheless, Di Xiaxia suddenly became flustered, "Brother, I called you this afternoon and your junior sister answered."
There was a two second silence on the other end of the phone before Di Mingzhe replied, "I know. It’s not a problem."
Di Xiaxia finally let out a sigh of relief, nodding, "Then carry on with your work, I’ll wait for you."
"Alright." Di Mingzhe hung up the phone, his eyes narrowing slightly.
"Sir," Gu Mian entered, formally reporting, "The reception banquet will start at 7 o’clock."
"Mm, understood." Di Mingzhe nodded, then instructed, "Have Dan Lingling come to my office."
Gu Mian was momentarily stunned, then bowed his head in acknowledgement, "Yes."
When Dan Lingling arrived at Di Mingzhe’s office, he was reviewing some documents, not even bothering to lift his eyes.
Just as Dan Lingling was about to speak, Di Mingzhe abruptly said, "You answered my phone."
Dan Lingling was startled, but quickly adopted a professional smile, "Yes, I happened to be picking up some documents for you when your phone rang, so I answered it."
"As I recall, I left it in the drawer." Di Mingzhe raised his eyes to look at her. His placid expression resembled casual small talk, yet his deep-set eyes hinted at a sharp discernment.
Just his gaze alone was enough to unsettle Dan Lingling.
"Yes." She hurriedly lowered her eyes, not daring to meet his stare, and continued with her excuses, "I was afraid there might be something urgent."
Di Mingzhe’s lips curled up in a cold smirk, he lowered his eyes back to the documents on the desk, and said calmly, "Remember, only Gu Mian can touch my phone. Miss Dan, you are merely a translation officer. Your duties do not include answering my calls. Don’t overstep your boundaries."
"Yes. I’m sorry, Sir." Dan Lingling bit her lower lip, clearly feeling wronged.
"Let it not happen again." Di Mingzhe’s voice was mild as he lifted his gaze again, casting a somewhat aloof and penetrating stare at her.
Dan Lingling shivered, as if frightened, and quickly nodded, "Yes, I understand."
"You can leave." Di Mingzhe lowered his gaze again, his expression unreadable, as if he was already disregarding her presence.
Dan Lingling opened her mouth as if intending to say something else, but seeing his face back to its expressionless state, she fell silent again.
After some thought, Dan Lingling didn’t say anything else, and she simply nodded, turned around and left the room.
Naturally, Dan Lingling wasn’t content with the situation, but deep down, she was still scared of Di Mingzhe.
She was considered his junior sister, and her father was a highly-ranking official, as well as Di Mingzhe’s mentor.
You could say that her father was the one who had nurtured Di Mingzhe’s path into politics.
