Chapter 30
Chapter 30
The words penetrating not just into her brain but capturing her soul, tearing it in half. These voices seemed to know her most vulnerable spots and aimed straight for them. The girl became aware of nothing but the horrific, terrifying whisper that, like a deadly poison, spread through her veins:
– Now he is ours... ours... ours... ours... ours... ours... You monster... You monster... You monster... You monster... Abomination... Abomination... Abomination... Abomination... Monster... Gray worthless piece unworthy of a master... Worthless... Worthless... Get out of here... get out... GET OUT!!!!!!!! GET OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The scream pierced her brain, and Lina suddenly opened her eyes. Samael was kneeling beside her. His eyes were once again ordinary, and the clumps of darkness had also vanished:
– You shouldn't have touched me, – he gently stroked her face and carefully lifted her into his arms.
The girl groaned through her teeth; fire engulfed her back. Obviously, there were no injuries here.
– Quiet now, little one, it will all be over soon. Your regeneration has already begun to work. Just half an hour of patience and you'll be as good as new.
Suddenly, a powerful blow crashed into the door, and a bloody commander staggered onto the roof.
– Ah, you... Sneaky bastards! – the man spat black sludge mixed with blood onto the ground and, trembling, began to change the bullets in his pistol.
– Get out of here if you don't want to meet the fate of your soldiers! – Sam hissed.
– Your demon tricks don't work on me. See? I’m still in my right mind! – the commander shouted angrily and aimed the pistol at Lina's head.
– Just try it!
– And what? I have a shield on.
– I doubt Anton gave you such an order. More likely he said something like: "find, capture, deliver to the base whole and unharmed, right?" – Samael smirked ironically.
– Where did you...
– How do I know? You're like an open book to me. All your thoughts and memories, even what you try to hide from everyone. Yes, I'm talking about one little, dirty secret.
– I’ll blow your heads off in seconds, this will be revenge for the guys! – the commander roared.
– The guys will be fine if a sharp-minded exorcist works with them. But for you, nothing will help now. Especially that shield that just fell out of your pocket.
For a few seconds, the man’s face took on a childish bewildered expression as he started to look around for something. Then he dived one hand into his pocket and frantically began to pat it down.
– But how... This is impossible...
– There’s nothing impossible.
Sam covered Lina's eyes with one hand so she wouldn’t see anything, and then whispered:
– Nogalini sevi.
Then there was silence. An intrusive, disgusting, lingering silence. Some shuffling and panting, and then a gunshot rang out.
Immediately afterward, the sound of a helicopter could be heard rapidly approaching the roof of the building.
In just ten minutes, Lina lay on board, covered with two warm blankets. She was feverish, and before her eyes, there were spots of blood and remnants of living flesh left after the commander's suicide.
– He didn't deserve to live, – Sam said after a long silence.
– Why? – she asked quietly.
– He was sick in the head. A perfect worker at his job. The best of the best. But at home, a tyrant and a pervert; he abused his wife, his child, and this summer raped a homeless fourteen-year-old girl.
– Such horror.
– Yes. If he had lived, he would have continued his filthy deeds. He already had a victim in mind – the neighbor's daughter. The parents are often away, leaving the child alone. This old stump even stood under their windows a few times, peeping in. So don’t blame yourself. I did nothing horrible; I only rid the world of another degenerate.
– And the soldiers? There were so many young boys there... – the girl turned on her side to see Sam better.
She realized that if it weren't for the dark one, everything would have ended badly. But his methods... They were terrifying and, to put it mildly, awful.
– They are fine. Well, relatively fine. They are alive.
– Relatively? What did you do with them? That dark energy...
– Those are demons, the lowest caste among the dark ones, – the man replied, gently stroking Lina's head. – Minor servants who often carry out tasks. They don't have their own bodies, and to land on Earth, they seize mortal bodies. Even a newly minted priest can handle them.
Samael got up, found a built-in radio on the wall, and asked:
– Ras, how much longer do we have to fly?
– Half an hour, sir, – a muffled voice of the pilot responded.
– Great, inform me in advance so we can prepare.
– Of course, sir.
Sam placed the radio back and uncorked a bottle of wine hidden in some compartment, taking a sip.
– Want some? It will help you relieve stress.
– No... Better tell me where we are flying? – the girl asked, as there was almost nothing visible outside the window.
Only gray clouds that were either light gray or dark gray sporadically appeared.
– When we arrive, you will find out? A surprise, – the man smiled weakly and settled into the seat opposite Lina.
– I don’t like surprises, – the girl grimaced, sensing an apparent trap in the tone of the dark one.
– And I don’t promise that you will like it. I rather sense the opposite... After all, the less you know, the less you worry.
– So? What do you mean?
– You’ll see, – the man smirked meaningfully.
– Sam, I'm dying here because of you, and you're playing Sherlock. I might struggle to get up, but I will get up and hit you if you don’t tell me what’s going on right now.
Lina was seriously angry. She didn't like the feeling of being toyed with. If something unpleasant was going to happen, it would be better to prepare for it mentally rather than get shocked on the spot.
For several minutes, an eye battle ensued, and eventually, Samael gave in:
– All right, Pennsylvania, Allegheny National Reserve near a town called Erie. That’s where we are heading.
– Okay, and what’s there? – Lina continued her interrogation.
– A large castle, – and the dark one evaded a direct answer.
– Whose castle?
– A respected lady’s.
– Which lady?
– My mother.
