Kill Me, My Love

Chapter 28

Chapter 28

Just a few more meters passed, and ahead stood a luxurious, modern kitchen. The appliances looked as if they had just come from a showroom. The tables were made of marble, and the floor was natural wood. Everything gleamed, polished, incredibly expensive.

"I wouldn't mind a few toasts and an omelet with fresh tomatoes and mushrooms."

The man opened the fridge and pulled out all the necessary ingredients. A dozen eggs, one meaty tomato, and a few already peeled mushrooms.

"Will you chop the vegetables or whisk the eggs?"

"Better not let me get my hands on them," Lina concluded, feeling extremely uncomfortable in such a kitchen, especially under the scrutinizing gaze of the dark man.

Samael handed the girl a whisk, a bowl, and the eggs while he dove into a cupboard searching for bread for the toasts.

Lina looked at this picturesque scene, not believing her eyes. Just a few days ago, the dark one had picked her up from the estate. He was all cruel and arrogant. That was the typical dark one; that's what she thought at first. And now this cold and dangerous man was rummaging through a drawer, searching for bread for toasts.

"Well, wish me luck," the girl murmured and, grabbing an egg, tried to break it.

However, it cracked in her hands, turning into a mess of shell and raw egg white.

Samael, seeing this, burst into loud laughter.

"Look, this is how it's done."

He took an egg. Lightly tapped it against the edge of the table, creating a crack in the shell. Then, with two hands, he separated the cracked halves of the shell, and the egg plopped into the bowl.

"Very simple. The main thing is not to rush."

The girl watched intently, and remembering the steps, attempted to break the egg again. This time, she succeeded.

"My girl," the dark one praised her, and finally finding the bread, he began preparing the toasts.

From there, everything went smoothly. After dealing with the shells, Lina started stirring the eggs, turning them into an omelet.

"I wanted to ask you something yesterday," she initiated a difficult conversation.

"Yes, anything you want," the man was chopping vegetables and seemed in a good, playful mood, which Lina decided to take advantage of.

"What happened to you in the last few days? How did you find me?"

She wasn't sure Samael would tell her everything, but she felt she would regret her cowardice if she didn't try. Surprisingly, the man hesitated for only a few seconds. Then he audibly sighed and began to explain:

"The sect that kidnapped you has deep knowledge of the nature of the dark and light. So they use certain substances that affect us. Just like the sleeping gas they released that evening in the clearing, or the barrier they surrounded their base with. If you hadn't turned it off, I would never have been able to get in. Something was blocking me and my powers...

And searching for you was not straightforward. Before I lost consciousness, I remembered the patch on the men’s sleeves. The Baphomet seal was their symbol. When I regained consciousness, I immediately recalled where I had seen it. Remember that slaughter in Portland? They staged it, and they did it for a reason. Obviously, someone leaked information that we would be nearby, and if something similar were to happen, Nathan would definitely have to check it out. I believe that's when they began to watch us and were just waiting for the right moment to strike. Everything was calculated and planned on their part.

"What horror... I don’t believe it..." Lina whispered. "They talked so much about how human cruelty is behind all misfortunes... And yet..."

Logically thinking, those who oppose killings could not commit such savagery. But they were so eager to achieve their goal that they did not hesitate to resort to violence. "All methods are good in war," they obviously adhered to that principle.

"Yes, they did it... So, what happened next. I connected with all the dark ones living in the states. Fortunately, it yielded results, and we captured one of the sect members. It took two days before he revealed everything he knew. After that, events unfolded quickly; I rushed to the scene and tried to break through their defense. All attempts were in vain... All I could do was send you an astral projection, asking you to turn off the barrier.

And you managed to do it; I couldn't believe it until the end. I was wandering around the fence, fuming that you were somewhere behind those walls, and I couldn't take you. But you, Lina, my brave girl, managed it all. You turned off the damn barrier, and that’s why we are now here, together.

"And what about Nathan? Did he help you?" she asked, completely forgetting about the omelet.

The girl leaned on the table with one hand and hugged herself with the other. She hung on to each of the dark man's words with anxiety, as it was the first time he was being so open and straightforward.

"Lina, you can ask me anything! I don’t want to have any secrets from you. But the topic of this light traitor is taboo. He is now on the other side of the barricades."

Samael finished chopping the vegetables, tossed them into the bowl with the eggs, and at that moment, his phone vibrated in the pocket of his pants.

"One moment," he said, and picking up the receiver, he stepped out into the corridor.

The girl heard the conversation out of the corner of her ear. Clear, cold, even dictatorial:

"Yes?.. When?.. How many?.. Are there many victims?.. And did you inform Max?... Do you have any predictions?... How long will it take them to find us?... Understood. Get everyone working. Your goal is to delay them for as long as possible! Keep me updated on everything! I must be the first to know about all events!"

Sam finished the call and, like a hurricane, burst back into the kitchen.

"We don't have time for breakfast; we need to asSamble immediately."

He grabbed Lina by the hand and led her into the corridor.

"See those doors? You’ll find clothes there. You have five minutes to get ready. And please, don't dawdle; things are serious."

The man kissed the girl on the forehead and quickly walked off somewhere.

Lina realized that something had happened. Clearly, they were being searched for. She didn't know who: the dark ones, the light, or the sect. But there were plenty of them, and they all had enough power to create maximum inconveniences.

The dressing room was a whirlwind of ordered chaos. Hundreds of hangers with the most diverse clothing. Dresses of all possible shades and designs. From absolute bad taste to the most expensive luxury. The girl wandered her gaze over skirts, suits, pants, and shirts. Everything was festive, colorful, completely unsuitable for her situation.

Suddenly, in the corner, among the boxes of shoes, she saw something black. She immediately reached out and pulled out a catwoman costume. A black, shiny top, black leggings, and black lace-up boots. Of course, Lina had no intention of wearing the tail and ears, but everything else fit perfectly.

This outfit was comfortable and convenient. It would allow her to run quickly without feeling any discomfort.

"Just what I need," she said, examining herself in the mirror. "Only this loose hair is not suitable at all."

She tore a ribbon from a dress and braided her hair, tying it up with it.

It seemed that five minutes had just passed, so the girl planned to go out into the corridor, but she heard loud boot steps. As if a herd of elephants was galloping down the corridor.

Approaching the door, she gently and very quietly cracked it open, creating a gap through which she could see everything happening.

The entire corridor was filled with soldiers holding automatic guns. Some stood, some lay down, some were kneeling, holding some more powerful weapons on their shoulders.

Lina froze; she seemed to even forget how to breathe. She went pale, stiffened. In her mind, she pleaded for Samael to somehow save himself. She understood that it was only a matter of time before the soldiers found her. But it seemed that their main target now was destruction, not searching for the apocalyptic girl.

"What idiots, were you looking for me?" Sam's ironic voice rang out.

It only took a few seconds before the corridor erupted with a piercing burst of gunfire.
