Chapter 111: Eldritch Arms
Chapter 111: Eldritch Arms
’Those last three notifications...’ Carter frowned. ’Those belong to the Prime System. What is a World Key?’
"Prime System. World Key Examination." Carter said.
A less sophisticated System like Prime required his vocal commands.
The Prime System popped up. A window showed the details of the World Key.
Carter’s eyes squinted. He spent a little more time in the Prime System to understand more about the situation.
Each dimension had a World Key. This was literally a Key to access the world without the need or Prime Train or other world-hopping measures. It was also a certificate acknowledging one’s ownership over that world in the Prime Multiverse.
One you had that, Prime Laws officially protected you. Other dimensions couldn’t invade you like what Cyber Runner had been doing.
They could only challenge you through official tournaments like the Exquisitor Tournament, or other multiversal procedures.
’This civilized? I don’t believe it.’ Once Carter had read more about the World Order, the first thing he had was suspicion.
No matter the world, laws would only apply for the weak. The strong enough it completely. Carter suspected that these Prime Law may not be that sacred.
’Either way, I have no intention of playing by Prime World’s rules.’
"Name this world, Eldritch Arms."
"Heh. This thing is as blood-sucking as ever. No matter. I don’t have much use for Prime Coins anyway."
`<-50,000 Prime Coins>’
<2191:23:59:59>
’2,192 days... Should be enough for me to build Hexilia up and make sure it can protect itself in front of other worlds.’
Carter then turned off the Prime System. Prime Coins can buy items or powers in the Prime Universe. With an insane prices that made Carter never wanted to use it.
He still bought some items or ingredients from time to time but he figured it was better to focus on the Skin System instead. His power grew quickly with the Skin System. It was his own thing and something only he had.
’There is still one thing left.’
Carter opened his hand. A gold sphere appeared.
The Heart of the Aether.
[Aether Seed]
[Description]: This item may be absorbed by a suitable skin or plant into the world to create the Gold Stream.
’The Gold Stream... That thing can create all kinds of Terror. It might even have the power to create other supernatural paths if use correctly.’
Carter looked at the clear sky above him. This world used to have a sad sky all years long. It was the first time Carter had seen a sky so beautiful.
’This world has suffered enough. Let me keep this thing until I find a good reason to use it.’
[CARTER HAYES EQUIPPED]
The thick red aura wrapped around Carter as he bolted away. He wasn’t supposed to be here so he had to find a way to get back to the West Continent without anyone noticing.
Luckily, there was Kaito.
Carter made up a reason that Dr. Frankenstein was conducting some research in the East Continent and told Kaito to come pick him up via their private jet.
Carter returned to the West Continent within that day, just briefly before Neros and Piper set foot on Barena.
[SYSTEM GHOST EQUIPPED]
Carter returned to his Carter Caine identity and sat in his office.
A knock on the door.
"Come in." Carter said.
Neros and Piper walked in.
Carter wasn’t facing them. He faced the window and looked out to the daylight outside.
Once the Gold Stream was destroyed, the day was longer. Hexilia was no longer restricted to the 8-hour daylight as before.
"So our world was supposed to have more daylight." Carter mumbled.
Piper nodded, "Dr. Avaline has confirmed. After the destruction of the Gold Stream, our axis has stabilized. This made our orbit returned to what it’s supposed to be, allowing more sunlight."
Carter Caine let out a brief exhale. "A Gold Stream made by a False God that is capable of affecting the entire life on this planet. If you tell me this a few years ago, I would think that you are crazy."
Neros stepped beside Carter and looked out to the window as well, "That False God is dead now."
"You’re sure?" Carter asked. Although he already knew the answer.
"I am. Their fight was visible from miles away. Nothing is left. Not even him."
Carter sighed, "I always have that feeling about him. That he is not going to walk out of this alive. But I never told him. I think that maybe if I didn’t say it, it would not come true. But I was right.
For the first time, it does not feel good to be right at all."
Neros placed a hand on Caine’s shoulder.
"We’re hosting a funeral for him."
"You found his body?"
"No. Only a piece of fabric. His robe. His body might be... unrecoverable."
"I see. I’ll tell Kaito to help you with the funeral. Just tell me the number."
"No need. The leaders will use national budget to host the funeral for him. I heard that General Dragovic wants to build a statue of him."
Carter chuckled, "If that bastard is here. He would say."
"Don’t waste your time on useless thing."
