Chapter 84: Siege of the Citadel 2
Chapter 84: Siege of the Citadel 2
After his particular speech, Damon and his group were already moving toward the teleportation device.
Ivy watched them step onto the small circular podium with quiet unease, while Theodore grinned from ear to ear, ready to go at any moment.
Eve was the last to step onto the podium, taking her place right in front of Damon and using the lack of space to her advantage.
"Excuse me," she said, her red lips curving into a smile as her body pressed against his.
Nyla, seeing this from his left side, shifted half a step closer toward him, her gaze narrowing on Eve as if her hammer might accidentally find her during the battle ahead of them.
Damon took a moment to confirm everyone was there before he placed his hand on the raised orb and imbued mana into it.
Then, their world’s twisted.
Just like last time, Damon’s vision blurred. His stomach lurched violently as his body was being teleported from one place to another. He felt his body being pulled in every direction before his boots hit the ground beneath him with a solid thud.
"Shields!" he shouted almost immediately, despite the confusion and disorientation clinging to his mind.
In an instant, a massive dome-like shield materialised around them. Both twins were standing with their arms raised, their eyes blinking as they couldn’t even see properly where they were.
Just as the shield materialised, a barrage of arrows came at them, striking the barrier with a terrifying sound.
At the same time, just as his senses came to be, Damon’s head whipped around to locate the castle before moving toward the part of the shield that was in its path, his group moving right beside him.
The shield parted right in front of him, creating a specifically designed chokehold to force the enemies in, and, just as they had planned, the first enemy arrived.
Realising that their bows had been rendered useless, the Dark Elves moved quickly toward the chokehold, their curved blades raised high as they charged in.
CLANG!
Damon’s sword intercepted the first strike with practised ease, the difference between now and the first time he faced them was like night and day.
But looking at the number of enemies ahead of him, he couldn’t help but frown slightly.
’There are only four of them here.’
He was hoping the battle would happen outside the castle, but perhaps sensing the overwhelming human presence beneath the citadel, the enemy moved indoors, or perhaps there was something else at play that he wasn’t aware of.
The second human group arrived quickly.
Victor moved forward almost immedietally, his passive healing ability seemed to help with the disorientation as he left his group members behind and moved toward Damon, who was in the midst of a battle against one of the enemy combatants.
There was, however, no need for his intervention, as before he could reach him in time, a series of loud gunshots cut through the air, followed by a devastating strike of a golden hammer.
Overrun by the humans, the Dark Elf was cornered against the barrier of the shield and his own people, trying to pass through the small chokehold.
It had no chance of evading as Damon’s blade tore right through its neck, ripping a massive gush open with a devastating swing of his weapon.

Damon had no time to read the notifications as his eyes snapped toward the next opponent, but instead of simply charging at them, the Dark Elves now moved behind the cover of the trees, refusing to enter the chokehold.
At the same time, Victor’s group arrived at his side, and some of them still had sick expressions on their faces from the teleportation.
"Release the shield," Damon suddenly said, catching everyone off guard.
"What?" one of the twins looked at him with confusion. "Didn’t you say not to stop the shields no matter what?"
"They won’t attack us here."
Damon’s gaze moved toward the castle in the distance. There, on its towers, he could clearly see tall figures standing with bows raised high. "Seems like we’ve earned their respect."
Despite their hesitations, the twins dismissed the shields, and just as Damon anticipated, no arrows came their way. The remaining Dark Elves from the forest had relocated to the castle, awaiting their next move.
A couple of moments passed as more and more humans arrived. Each group was confused by the lack of battle they were promised, but instead of explaining it to every new group that arrived, Damon simply urged them to wait until the last and final group arrived.
"Damon," Ivy stepped forward, "What is going on?"
"They moved into the castle. We will have to breach the walls."
She blinked. "Breach the walls?"
That was something straight out of the Middle Ages. How was a group of twenty-first-century young adults supposed to do something like that?
"Fuck yeah," Theodore suddenly nodded, "I’ve always wanted to do something like that."
Damon raised a brow. ’He always wanted to breach a castle?’
He shook the moment of confusion away as he turned toward the dark structure standing in the near distance.
He spent a couple of minutes going over his plan of attack. Everyone listened carefully, taking mental notes of their tasks as he told them what to do.
Then, when the planning was done, he moved toward the edge of the forest, looking at the dark castle with a cold expression.
He took a slow, deep breath before his voice cut through the silence of the forest.
"Charge!"
Everyone dashed forward at once.
Damon kept his pace at bay, allowing others to keep up as he moved through the open field.
Immedietally, a few dozen arrows came their way.
The twins’ shields, along with other barrier-type abilities, came to life above their heads to intercept the attack.
The rainfall of arrows came with a devastating sound.
The twins grimaced as they focused on both running and keeping the shield alive for the next barrage of arrows that was already midair.
