Impossible to Resist: Mr. CEO Falling In Love

Chapter 131: Rumors and Gossip

Chapter 131: Rumors and Gossip

"Wasn’t there talk recently about a successor taking over at the Fu Group? I heard he committed a major mistake back then and was sent overseas. He was gone for seven or eight years, and everyone thought he’d never return. Even his arranged marriage partner didn’t dare to have any contact with him."

"Do you know who his arranged marriage partner was?"

Shen asked: "Who?"

"The number one Qipao beauty in the Beijing Circle, Shao Yuwei." Secretary Yao seemed to get more excited as she spoke, "I heard they got along really well back then. Whatever Shao Yuwei wanted, that head of the Fu Group would try every possible means to get it for her, just to please the beauty."

"For those high and mighty families, with money and power, making a woman happy is a piece of cake. No one knows how much genuine affection there is, so regular folks like us should stay away from them, or it’ll end badly."

Secretary Yao agreed, "Yes, we can never fathom the minds of those in power. Even if they fancy a girl from a regular family, it’s just for fun. In the end, they’ll marry a girl who matches their status."

Shen lamented, "Shao Yuwei probably regrets it a lot now, huh?"

"Whether she regrets it or not, I don’t know, but I heard an even juicier rumor: that head of the Fu Family caused the death of his unborn brother when he was young."

Shen looked shocked.

"And shortly after he took over, his second uncle mysteriously passed away. It’s creepy to think about. They all say it’s the battle over the family fortune..."

"Enough."

The voice was tinged with anger.

The two of them paled with fright and turned silently to look at the person whose face was clouded over.

Secretary Yao bravely stepped up, "Lingzhi, what’s wrong?"

As soon as Fu Yinli was mentioned, Su Lingzhi’s face had already darkened. Now, hearing her speculate about Lili like that, a surge of anger suddenly rose in her heart. She clenched her fists tightly but eventually held it down, "It’s not nice to speak ill of others like this."

"I heard all this from those Beijing Circle playboys when I went out with President Pei earlier. Although I’m not sure if it’s true, there’s usually no smoke without fire. Lingzhi, you’re acting a bit strange. Do you know the head of the Fu Group?"

Do I know him?

Looking at it this way, she really didn’t know him.

Now, hearing another side of Lili from others, she couldn’t bear it. She didn’t believe Lili was such a person, and she couldn’t tolerate anyone speaking about Lili in that way in front of her.

Even though she knew they were not being malicious.

Su Lingzhi lowered her gaze, "I have something to do, I’ll leave first."

With that, she decisively left.

Shen was puzzled, "The food hasn’t even arrived, why did President Su leave?"

Secretary Yao’s face darkened, a touch of melancholy flickered in her eyes. She remained silent...

The heavy clouds covered half of the moon’s glow, and car headlights flashed again and again over Su Lingzhi.

Su Lingzhi stared blankly at the road beneath her feet, her chest tight and suffocating.

She had never asked about anything regarding Lili, and now, in just ten minutes, she had received so much information about him. True or false, she couldn’t tell by herself.

She tried hard to convince herself to believe in Lili, but Lili had never told her anything about his past. The only thing keeping her going now was her love for him.

From knowing him till now, she never truly understood him, nor did he give her any opportunity.

It seemed like she was the only one investing in him.

She didn’t dare believe that Lili was the kind of person who would stop at nothing for power, nor was she ready to accept that what they said might be true.

But...

Lili really is a person who stops at nothing to achieve his goals, isn’t he? At least that’s what his possessiveness over her feels like.

She should believe him...

He’s not that kind of person...

Various voices intertwined in her ears, and she felt as if she was about to suffocate.

After returning home, she hid in her apartment, drinking herself into oblivion, desperately trying to forget those unpleasant voices.

When Fu Yinli returned in the middle of the night and turned on the light, he saw her lying drunk on the sofa, with the smell of alcohol lingering in the room.

The table was full of liquor, empty bottles scattered on the floor.

He frowned deeply, picking her up from the sofa and laying her down on the bed, "Why did you drink so much?"

The person in her sleep frowned in discomfort, not giving him any response.

Fu Yinli turned helplessly, went to the bathroom to get a wet towel, wiped her face with it, and looked at her face with deep eyes.

Then, he silently returned to the living room, tidied everything up, and lay back down beside her.

Yet, as soon as he touched her, she instinctively turned over towards the wall, taking all the blankets with her.

He gently moved closer, wrapping his arm around her from behind to sleep.

...

When the morning light came in, accompanied by a bout of dizziness, Su Lingzhi opened her eyes in a daze, looking at everything around her.

Last night...

With a blank memory, she didn’t think much about it and groggily went into the bathroom.

When she later went back to the living room, she noticed the man sitting on the sofa with a laptop, the coffee table already cleaned up.

When their eyes met, Su Lingzhi felt a flash of guilt, instinctively looking away.

She acted like nothing happened and called out to him, "Lili, didn’t you say you wouldn’t come over on the weekend?"

Fu Yinli looked at her with deep eyes, his gaze sharp as if trying to see through her, "Drink the Hangover Tea."

Su Lingzhi glanced at the cup of tea in front of him and walked over to him, drinking it across the table.

"Come over and kiss me."

His tone was assertive, with a hint of oppression in his deep, still black eyes.

If this were before last night, she would have rushed over to him without hesitation.

But now...

She hesitated, internally struggling, and in those few seconds of hesitation, her deeply buried emotions were completely exposed.

When Su Lingzhi moved over, she silently kissed his cheek.

A very light kiss, devoid of any emotion,

yet when she pulled away, Fu Yinli turned his face, pinned her against the back of the sofa, and kissed her deeply.

His breath enveloped her, trapping her in a small world. The rough pads of his fingers caressed her neck, prompting her to respond.

Su Lingzhi captured his lips, the defenses she set for him utterly crumbled.

"Why did you drink?" Fu Yinli asked in a deep voice, his thoroughly furrowed brows mixed with strong, unclear emotions.

Su Lingzhi lied, "I couldn’t design anything, so I drank to find some inspiration."

"Should I believe that or not?"

"Believe it or not, that’s just how it is."

Fu Yinli’s face darkened, "We’ve been through a lot, you should know that hiding things from me will only make our relationship worse."

Under that pressured gaze, Su Lingzhi clenched her teeth and asked, "Were you and Shao Yuwei very in love before?"

Fu Yinli looked at her with deep eyes, as if trying to deduce something from her.
