Chapter 53
Chapter 53
53. Bait
"Now that everyone has seen it and knows the situation in your hearts, please remain quiet and absolutely do not alert the targets. Very well, if there are no further questions, you may withdraw. The first class of the new term will begin shortly. Please don't be late."
Anmir concluded the meeting. The people in the conference room gradually left until only Anmir remained.
"I'm curious. Who exactly are you fishing for? So many undercover agents, all of them achievements. Are you not tempted at all?"
Just then, another voice rang out in the conference room, yet its owner was nowhere to be seen. It was as if an invisible ghost lingered here.
"Tch, they're all small fry. I can't be bothered with them."
Anmir didn't seem surprised by this voice appearing out of nowhere. She curled her lips dismissively.
The Witches had long known that the Alliance continuously cultivated undercover agents. However, the Alliance had been frantically dispatching large numbers of agents in recent years, which indicated they were already a spent force, unable to hold on much longer.
Simply put, they were getting desperate.
In the past, the Witches would capture these undercover agents and send them to the Dlama Galaxy.
The Dlama Galaxy was the territory of Life (#9). There, a Witch Factory existed. These captured undercover witches were transformed into breeding mothers at the factory, producing witch eggs day and night until every last trace of their magic power was extracted.
After all, these undercover agents were still witches, and witches had extremely low birth rates. The witch population itself was a resource.
Of course, some of the more attractive undercover agents, after being brainwashed and having their memories erased by Anmir, were sent to important figures as gifts.
Anmir knew very well that among those present at the meeting just now, there was definitely a Great Witch level undercover agent. This information was top secret, and even her informant [Winter Cicada] had only managed to learn the target's codename. The actual identity had not yet been uncovered.
Originally, Anmir could have waited for [Winter Cicada] to possibly uncover [Teacher]'s specific identity. But the moment she considered that [Teacher] was a Great Witch, Anmir couldn't sit still.
A Great Witch. The entire Witch civilization didn't have many of them. As of now, the registered number of Great Witches was only three hundred ninety-six million, five hundred and sixty thousand.
Perhaps looking at this number alone, one might think there were many Great Witches. But on the scale of the entire universe, compared to the witch population that numbered like the stars in the sky, the number of Great Witches was negligible.
Even the weakest Great Witch had the power to ignite an entire star system. If she could actually capture this Great Witch undercover agent, Anmir wouldn't even need to lift a finger. Those witch families would come knocking on her door to purchase that Great Witch agent.
After all, offspring born from a Great Witch had a higher probability of possessing great talent compared to offspring from an ordinary witch.
So don't blame Anmir for being so impatient. She was a Great Witch herself, after all. She knew all too well the value of a Great Witch.
"A Great Witch... It seems this undercover agent is the Alliance's prized possession. If we can root them out, it should cause the Alliance considerable pain for a while."
The voice sounded somewhat wistful, then seemed to think of something and asked, "Do you suspect that the Great Witch is among those who were just here?"
One had to understand that among those present just now, there were only a few Great Witches, but each had extraordinary status. Even Anmir would have to think twice before trying to arrest any of them.
Take Zi Yan from the Illusion Academy, for instance. She was a Great Witch herself, and her teacher was the renowned Illusion (#4). If she turned out to be an undercover agent, the voice dared to bet that Anmir wouldn't dare arrest her. The matter would probably just fade away without consequence.
That was because Illusion (#4) was a Sequence Witch. No one dared touch her disciple.
And Illusion (#4) was notoriously protective of her own. The voice still remembered when another Sequence Witch, Fate (#6), tried to weave the destiny of one of Illusion (#4)'s disciples. After Illusion (#4) discovered this, Fate was thoroughly pursued and tormented for an entire century.
Of course, this matter was exposed by Pleasure (#3). It had caused quite a sensation at the time, with videos of the two circulating everywhere on the Witch Forum. However, it was later debunked as some unscrupulous video production teams trying to cash in on the trend.
So if Zi Yan really was an undercover agent, nothing would probably come of it in the end, and Anmir's dreams of promotion and fortune would shatter.
"No, I can confirm that none of those Great Witches are the ones I'm after."
Surprisingly, Anmir shook her head. She knew those Great Witches had powerful backers that she couldn't afford to provoke. If there really was an undercover agent among them, Anmir would just turn a blind eye and accept it.
It was rather laughable when one thought about it. As the Dean of Witch Academy, she actually had the weakest connections among all the Great Witches at the academy. She had climbed to this position by treading on thin ice every day and paying certain prices.
Mosaic images flashed through Anmir's mind, and a trace of resentment flickered in her eyes.
She wanted to climb higher, to reach a position where no one could ever press her beneath them again. When that time came, only she would be on top, and everyone else could only crawl at her feet like dogs.
This Great Witch undercover agent, she was determined to have them.
"Fine. As your friend, just tell me what help you need. I'll do my best."
The voice also knew about Anmir's inner demons and sighed.
She was Anmir's only friend, and the only person Anmir trusted. She felt for Anmir, but in her current state, the most she could do was help Anmir handle certain matters that couldn't see the light of day.
"Thank you, [Phantom]."
