Chapter 52
Chapter 52
52. The List
Regarding witches' methods of travel, most people's stereotypical impression was broomsticks. But broomsticks were hard and thin. Riding on one was uncomfortable enough, but if a witch with a particularly vigorous libido suddenly got in the mood, that would be troublesome indeed. Therefore, witches riding broomsticks was complete nonsense.
Some also believed witches flew on magic carpets. Well, only those older witches who didn't want to expend magic power would choose such an outdated and slow method of travel.
Zi Yan slowly woke up in her classroom apartment, eyes still drowsy, looking utterly listless.
She hadn't controlled herself again last night.
Promising herself this was absolutely the last time, she slowly got dressed. Zi Yan walked to the mirror, saw her reflection, and hummed narcissistically.
I'm so beautiful.
But just then, her phone vibrated. The work group had a new message.
Dean Anmir: "Today is the first day of school. Come to Sky Island at six for a meeting. @AllMembers"
Seeing that there was yet another meeting, Zi Yan instantly deflated.
Although she was now a Great Witch with high social status, she was still a miserable wage earner.
Zi Yan yawned, waved her hand, and a massive purple witch's hat flew into her grasp. She placed it on her head, then walked toward the mirror.
The mirror's surface was like calm water. After Zi Yan stepped into it, faint ripples spread across the surface, then quickly vanished without a trace.
Compared to broomsticks and flying carpets, teleportation arrays were far more suited to witches.
At an altitude of ten thousand meters, a massive island floated in the sky. At the center of this island stood a majestic great hall, the Witch Grand Hall.
Figures continuously materialized out of thin air before the Witch Grand Hall. Each witch appeared weary and drowsy, dragging their bodies that had barely awakened from sleep toward the great hall. The atmosphere here was thoroughly oppressive.
Sigh, wage slaves really had no souls.
Zi Yan followed the crowd listlessly into the great hall. But just then, she spotted a familiar figure.
"Bai Wei?"
Bai Wei actually looked quite energetic, standing out conspicuously among the listless witches around her. Hearing someone call her name in an extremely familiar voice, her delicate body couldn't help but tremble.
Could it be?
Bai Wei looked in the direction of the voice. Just then, a fragrant breeze wafted over, and that face she both loathed and deeply missed appeared before her.
"Oh my, has Junior Sister Bai Wei gotten even bigger? Come, let Senior Sister have a feel, hehehe."
Zi Yan stared teasingly at Bai Wei's chest. The latter looked completely unsurprised, as if she had seen this all before.
"Be serious, the meeting is about to start. Also, I withdrew from the Illusion path long ago. I'm no longer your Junior Sister. We're just colleagues now."
Bai Wei walked side by side with Zi Yan toward one of the conference halls, found a seat, and Zi Yan shamelessly sat down beside her.
"Tsk tsk tsk, Junior Sister Bai Wei is so heartless. You used to call me Senior Sister so sweetly, and now you're treating me so coldly. Boo hoo hoo, I'm so sad."
"..."
Bai Wei was speechless. This woman's personality really hadn't changed at all.
"You're already a teacher now, you should restrain yourself a bit. Also, have you forgotten why I left the Illusion path?"
Whenever Bai Wei thought about what happened years ago, how this woman wouldn't sleep at night and wanted to open a private chat room with her, her teeth itched with anger.
What kind of decent person would make a move on their own Junior Sister?
Even rabbits didn't eat the grass by their own burrow.
"Oops!"
Zi Yan stuck out her tongue, playing dumb.
"Fine, the past is in the past. I just hope you can fulfill your responsibilities as a teacher in the future."
Bai Wei thought of Meng Lian. "My Class Monitor is your little disciple. Treat her well in the future. I'm not asking for anything else, just please don't let her become so twisted."
"What kind of talk is that? Am I that kind of person?"
Zi Yan said huffily. But then she sighed, propped her chin on her hand, turned sideways to look at Bai Wei, her gaze complicated.
"You... you're still at Extraordinary, right? Why bother? Your talent in illusion arts is so high. Choosing the sword path is a complete waste of your gift. If you hadn't changed majors back then, you should be a Great Witch by now too."
Great Witch and Extraordinary Witch. Two words of difference, yet worlds apart.
If Bai Wei had continued studying illusion arts, her talent was no less than Zi Yan's. She would definitely be a Great Witch by now. Perhaps she could have even gone to a Witch Academy in another star system and founded her own school, instead of being a first-year homeroom teacher here.
Hearing this, Bai Wei remained silent.
"This was my choice. I don't regret it."
"Sigh, I really can't figure you out. Fine, whatever. If you encounter any difficulties in the future, just come find me. After all, I was once your Senior Sister. I'll do my best to help you."
Zi Yan's gaze was profound as she looked at Bai Wei, trying to see through to this person's true thoughts.
Unfortunately, she had never seen the other's real face, even though she knew the current Bai Wei was an elaborate disguise.
Thank you.
Bai Wei didn't speak. She could only accept this kindness in her heart.
If she really encountered insurmountable difficulties, she would want to ask Zi Yan for help. But she couldn't, because if that day truly came, Zi Yan would only be on the opposing side.
The two fell into silence. Just then, applause erupted one after another in the conference hall. At the very front, Witch Academy Dean Anmir took the stage to speak.
This meeting mainly covered some opening day matters and was very brief, lasting only half an hour.
"That's all I have to say. Teachers, please pay attention. Finally, some teachers please stay behind. I have something to say to you."
Anmir concluded the meeting, leaving only a group of witches remaining in place.
Bai Wei and Zi Yan were among them.
Seeing those who remained, Anmir nodded, then snapped her fingers, instantly transporting everyone to another conference room.
This space was considerably smaller than the great hall from earlier. Anmir gestured for everyone to sit down, her expression gradually becoming serious.
"There's a list in front of each of you. Take a look. If there are students from your class or your academy, please keep an eye on them, but do not alert them."
Only then did Bai Wei and Zi Yan notice the thick stack of documents before them.
Bai Wei opened it and looked at the densely packed names inside, feeling quite surprised.
This was much more comprehensive than last time.
Just a few days ago, on the day Chen Li was captured, Anmir had also convened a meeting and distributed a list of Alliance undercover agents.
But she hadn't expected another list now, even more detailed than before.
"We've added some supplementary information this time. Rest assured, the source is absolutely reliable. You can compare it with the previous list. If a name appears on both lists, that requires special attention."
Anmir narrowed her eyes slightly, her slender fingers tapping against the table, producing a rhythmic knocking sound.
"What a hassle. My academy only has those few disciples, how could any of them be undercover agents?"
Zi Yan glanced through it, found none of her disciples' names on it, and couldn't help but pout.
Bai Wei read through it silently, her heart also stirring with confusion.
Why wasn't it there?
Had she guessed wrong?
