Chapter 42
Chapter 42
42. Carolingian
The morning sunlight was warm and gentle. Meng Lian opened her eyes, feeling the softness against her body, and sighed softly.
Hopefully she was just overthinking things. Jiang Jiang wouldn't do anything to her, right?
Meng Lian tried to sit up, only to discover she had two "sloths" draped over her. Tiane and Tina each clung to one side of her body, leaving her trapped between them, unable to move.
Great. Looks like she wouldn't be getting up anytime soon.
Meng Lian turned her head slightly. To her left was Tiane, whose silver eyelashes trembled faintly, her milky-white skin almost translucent in the dawn light. Tina's breath brushed against Meng Lian's face, making her heart tickle.
Tsk. She was getting turned on.
After all, the three of them were completely naked beneath the covers right now. The silky smooth feeling of their skin against hers made Meng Lian's heart flutter. And Tiane apparently wasn't very well-behaved in her sleep, her legs wrapped tightly around Meng Lian's, occasionally rubbing against her, making Meng Lian's mouth go dry.
Hold it together. She had to exercise some restraint.
Last night had been absolutely wild. They hadn't fallen asleep until well past midnight. If they started up again first thing in the morning, she really wouldn't be able to handle it.
Just then, Tiane's rhythmic breathing stopped. She slowly opened her eyes, saw Meng Lian watching her, and smiled.
"Good morning, dear."
"Morning."
Tina woke up at this moment too. The sisters stretched simultaneously, their various curves on full display making warmth rise to Meng Lian's nose.
After admiring the beautiful scenery for a while, Meng Lian finally gathered her clothes and put them on slowly.
"Good morning, Miss Mavilet."
Downstairs, the inn's owner was already at the front desk. The elderly but well-maintained woman smiled at the three of them as they came down.
"Morning. Did you sleep well last night?"
"Mm, pretty good."
The inn provided breakfast: three loaves of wheat bread and three cups of goat's milk. However, this didn't seem like enough for the Silver Dragon sisters. Soon, Tiane and Tina had devoured their breakfast, smacking their lips as if still unsatisfied.
After bidding farewell to Miss Mavilet, the three walked out of the inn and arrived at a bustling street.
This was Morbi Town, located at the border between the Divine Grace Empire and the Forest of Elves.
The Divine Grace Empire was one of the few nations ruled by humans. Yelena's father was the Grand Duke of the Divine Grace Empire. The Forest of Elves, as its name suggested, was a forest inhabited by many elves.
The Forest of Elves wasn't a country but a geographical concept. Since elves were a peace-loving race, the Divine Grace Empire had stationed very few border patrol troops here, practically negligible.
Meng Lian and the Silver Dragon sisters had left the Mist Forest and come to Morbi Town, intending to pass through the Forest of Elves to reach the Far Shore.
The Far Shore lay on the other side of the Forest of Elves. Of course, their real destination was the Sky City floating above the Far Shore.
Meng Lian had learned from the Silver Dragon sisters that they were actually abandoned Silver Dragon twins. They had never seen their parents; ever since hatching, they had lived in the Mist Forest. Dragon heritage flowed through their blood. When Tiane had recently come of age, she learned from the dragon lineage that their kind came from the Sky City, an airborne island where many dragons made their home.
Tiane wanted to meet her parents, wanted to ask why they had abandoned her and Tina back then. Their parents were likely in the Sky City.
When Meng Lian first heard the Silver Dragon sisters' story, she decided to accompany them to the Sky City.
She didn't know where else to go anyway. Why not go somewhere?
But now, the three of them faced a major problem.
They were out of money.
The Silver Dragon sisters had lived in the Mist Forest since birth, so naturally they had no concept of money. As for Meng Lian, she had run away, and the money in her pockets had been just enough for last night's lodging. If she didn't figure something out today, they would probably be sleeping on the streets tonight.
Of course, the Silver Dragon sisters' food needs also had to be considered. They were dragons, after all, and couldn't be measured by ordinary appetites.
After explaining the situation to Tiane and Tina, Tiane nodded as if she understood.
"So that's it. If we don't have money, we can't stay at an inn tonight, and we can't do 'that' with dear, right?"
Hey, isn't your focus a little off?
"Then let's hurry up and make money! Money is a good thing."
Hearing Tiane's words, Tina clearly became anxious.
Although Tina looked like a little girl, according to Tiane, she had hatched only one day after her. In other words, Tina was an adult too.
Meng Lian had felt somewhat guilty at first, but after learning that Tina was a legal loli, she felt more at ease. However, she never expected that Tina would turn out to be such a lewd loli. The one who wore her out the most every night wasn't Tiane, but Tina.
So when Tina heard that money would let her continue doing "that" at night, she immediately deemed money a good thing.
"Cough, don't worry, don't worry. Money isn't that easy to earn. Worst case, we just rough it outside for a night."
Meng Lian suddenly wasn't in a hurry anymore. Why rush to make money? Did she look like someone desperate for action?
"Then we'll just have to do it outdoors."
Tiane sighed upon hearing this.
Meng Lian: ...
Seriously, sis? You absolutely have to do it, don't you?
"Haha, look at my memory! Making money is actually pretty easy. Come with me, we should be able to earn some over there."
A bed was better than doing it outdoors. Meng Lian laughed dryly, then pulled the Silver Dragon sisters toward the town center.
Sure enough, there was an Adventurer's Guild in the town center. For a town of this size, having an Adventurer's Guild wasn't unusual.
Because of its proximity to the Forest of Elves, the Adventurer's Guild had quite a few elf staff members. Meng Lian led the Silver Dragon sisters to the front desk.
"Welcome to the Adventurer's Guild. I'm Rinko. How may I help you?"
Rinko was an elf. Seeing the three of them, she immediately put on a professional smile.
"Do you have any missions with good pay?"
Meng Lian didn't waste time with pleasantries and got straight to the point.
"We do, but please first show me your Adventurer's Badges."
Adventurer's Badge? What was that?
Seeing the confused expressions on their faces, Rinko realized they weren't professional adventurers. Her smile remained unchanged, and her tone stayed the same.
"Miss, are you not professional adventurers?"
"No, we just happen to be short on money and want to take a mission to earn some reward."
"I see. In that case, you'll need to undergo an assessment first. Then we can issue you temporary badges, and you'll be able to accept missions."
Rinko pointed to a machine in the corner, apparently the device used for assessment.
Rinko led the three to the machine. On top was a dial with markings around its circumference, and a pointer fixed in the center.
"Hold this and channel your magic power. The machine will display your approximate magic level, and we can prepare appropriate missions for you."
"Let me, let me!"
Seeing this curious contraption, Tina snatched the stone sphere from Rinko's hand. Soon, the pointer on the dial spun wildly, until finally, with Rinko wearing an expression like she'd seen a ghost, the dial outright exploded.
"What a bore. Not fun at all."
Seeing this, Tina pouted and immediately lost interest.
By now, the smile on Rinko's face had completely frozen. The way she looked at the three of them was now filled with awe.
"Such powerful magic fluctuations. I didn't expect to encounter experts right away."
Just then, an exclamation came from behind them. Everyone turned to look and saw a woman with fiery red hair, dressed in classic adventurer attire. What drew attention, however, was the eyepatch she wore, giving her the appearance of a female pirate from storybooks.
"Hello there. I'm Carolingian, leader of the Wolf Fang Adventuring Group. I couldn't help but overhear that you're a bit short on funds? I happen to have a mission available. Interested?"
Carolingian smiled, her gaze pausing briefly on Meng Lian and Tiane's intertwined hands. "Upon completion, ten gold coins."
