Chapter 325
Chapter 325
"...Fine," Rex said, rubbing the back of his neck.
Christian shook his head slightly. "You’re still troublesome."
"I’ve always been," I shot back.
A brief silence settled again, but this one was... lighter.
Not fixed but not broken either.
"What’s your player name then?" Christian asked after a moment. "So we can invite you to our waiting room in the future."
"UnluckyExtra," I muttered.
They froze.
Again.
Honestly, they were doing that a lot today.
Slowly, very slowly, they turned to look at me, eyes wide like I had just confessed to being a secret final boss.
"You’re... UnluckyExtra?" Rex said, voice somewhere between disbelief and mild betrayal. "The player who earned the highest amount at the end of the third stage?"
"That’s me," I said, shrugging like it was nothing.
Because it was really nothing.
"I can’t believe you’re instantly famous," Christian muttered, still staring at me. "Even in a completely different world..."
Rex groaned dramatically. "Do you know how many missions I joined just to get some recognition? Thirty."
"Lucky," Christian scoffed. "I had to go through thirty-five before I even made it into the trending search list."
I blinked at them.
"...That sounds exhausting."
"It was," they said in unison.
I clapped my hands once. "Anyway—moving on before this turns into a pity party. You’re both with groups, right?"
They snapped out of it, nodding.
"You’re with Sovereign Legion," I said, pointing at Christian. Then I turned to Rex. "And you’re with Royal Dominion."
They both stared at me.
"...How did you—?"
I grinned. "Like I said, I still consider you my friends."
Which meant—
Yes.
I may
have been casually stalking their progress updates whenever I had free time.
"Wait—so you know Cypher and Anna—" Christian started.
Thud!
Rex elbowed him hard in the side.
"—bel—shit—!" Christian wheezed, clutching his ribs.
"Can you keep your mouth shut for a moment already?" Rex said through gritted teeth while smiling at me like everything was perfectly normal.
I narrowed my eyes slightly, watching the two of them exchange that very suspicious, very loud silent conversation.
Cypher and Annabelle.
It didn’t take a genius to piece that together.
I’d already seen the posts—updates, rumors, very enthusiastic discussions from different websites about their relationship.
And honestly?
Good for them. It’s about time they take it to the next step.
I let out a small breath, the cold air fogging in front of me. ’The story’s moving forward just fine...’
For once, something was going according to plan.
"Well," I said, clapping my hands lightly as if wrapping up a meeting, "this has been fun. Chaotic, but fun."
They both looked at me again.
Rex was still suspicious while Christian was still recovering from near-death via elbow.
"I should get going now," I said, glancing down at my GPS.
A small blinking indicator was moving steadily closer to me.
"My group’s probably starting to wonder if I froze to death or got eaten," I continued casually. "And knowing them, they’d blame each other before actually coming to find me."
"It seems you care for your new group rather than your friends," Rex snorted.
Christian crossed his arms. "You just don’t want more questions."
"...That too," I admitted without shame.
I stepped closer to them, raising a hand—
Flick.
"OW—!" Christian yelped, clutching his forehead.
Flick.
"HEY—!" Rex followed immediately after, glaring at me.
I smiled sweetly.
"Don’t forget," I said, lowering my hand and looking between the two of them, my tone shifting just slightly. "Keep our meeting a secret."
Rex exhaled, rubbing his forehead. "...Yeah. We got it."
Christian nodded, though his gaze lingered on me for a second longer. "Try not to disappear again."
"..."
I can’t promise that, instead, I stepped back, pulling my coat tighter around me as the cold wind picked up again.
"Take care of yourselves," I said, already turning away.
"Hey—Witch," Rex called.
I glanced back over my shoulder.
He grinned. "Next time... care to tell us your adventures?"
I smirked. "No promises."
Christian shook his head. "Still secretive."
"And you still talk too much," I shot back then I turned fully and started running.
~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~
The moment Remillia disappeared into the white blur of the tundra—
Silence.
A very brief, very fragile silence.
Then—
Christian turned so quickly that Rex didn’t even get a second to prepare.
"Why didn’t you stall her longer?" Christian snapped.
Rex blinked. "How am I supposed to know that?!"
"I was signaling you!" Christian shot back, visibly offended. "Multiple times!"
"Ohhh, you mean the constant blinking?" Rex said, shrugging. "I thought you had an underlying sickness."
Christian stared at him dead in the eye. "...Dumbass."
"Excuse me?"
"You don’t even know Morse code."
"Why would I even need Morse code?!" Rex snapped. "What am I, a walking communication tower?!"
Christian dragged a hand down his face, already regretting every life decision that led him here. "Unbelievable."
Rex crossed his arms. "And for the record, why would I stall her? You know it’s useless. She disappears whenever she wants, and we can’t even stop her."
"...That’s not the point," Christian muttered.
"It is
the point."
"It’s about effort!"
"It’s about survival!"
Before Christian could escalate this into something physical—
"Why are the two of you arguing again?"
"..."
"..."
Rex turned his head slowly as Christian didn’t even bother hiding his annoyance.
Cypher was standing beside them.
"This—" Christian pointed at him immediately, "—is the reason why."
Cypher blinked. "...Me?"
Rex frowned. "Wait—how did you even know he was here?"
"We have trackers," Cypher replied calmly. "I came to check on Christian. He hasn’t moved from his spot for a while." He glanced between the two of them. "Now it makes sense. You were arguing again."
Christian clicked his tongue. "...Actually," he muttered, shooting Rex a glare sharp enough to cut ice, "there were three of us."
Rex whipped his head toward him. "How the fuck would I know he’d show up here?!"
"What three?" Cypher asked, brows furrowing.
"..."
"..."
Christian and Rex both refused to look at him.
"Just shut it," Christian muttered to Rex. "You’re really not reliable in situations like this."
"Says the one who’s still single," Rex shot back instantly.
"...You know what? Never mind," Christian exhaled, waving a hand dismissively. "Clearly, she wasn’t ready to meet him anyway."
That caught Cypher’s attention.
"What are you two talking about?" he asked, more serious now. "What three? Who is she? Is there someone else you met before me?"
Christian and Rex exchanged a glance.
A long one.
One filled with ’we are absolutely not telling him anything’ energy.
They both sighed at the same time.
Rex stepped forward first, patting Cypher on the shoulder like a tired older brother. "Haaa... it’s nothing. We just had a short reunion with someone you don’t need to know."
Cypher’s eyes narrowed. "That doesn’t sound reassuring."
"It’s not meant to be," Rex said cheerfully. "Anyway, I’m heading back to my squad."
And just like that, he turned and left.
Coward.
"...What’s wrong with him?" Cypher muttered, watching him go.
Christian stepped forward and patted Cypher’s other shoulder. "Our reunion got cut short," he said casually. "He’s just being a pain in the ass."
Cypher frowned. "Who’s this person you met anyway?"
Christian paused then slowly smiled. "Let’s just say we had a reunion with..... UnluckyExtra."
