Chapter 58: Transformation of Light and Shadow
After an emergency risk assessment, Chen Mo agreed to her request and ordered that no one from the 【Radiance】 faction be informed of this matter.
Half an hour later, inside a temporary laboratory constructed entirely of transparent, explosion-proof glass, Wang Jingyi began her demonstration.
Under the surveillance of dozens of high-definition cameras, Wang Jingyi used only ordinary water to create three test tubes of differently colored reagents.
One was crimson as blood, another jade-green, and the last as black as ink.
“This red one, I call it ‘Rage Serum,’”
She pointed at the crimson test tube and said, “After injection, it can increase an ordinary person’s strength, speed, and reflexes tenfold within an hour, while nullifying pain.”
“Its side effect is twelve hours of weakness after the effect wears off.”
“This green one, I call it ‘Regeneration Fluid,’”
She pointed to the jade-green reagent. “For non-lethal penetrating or cutting wounds, as long as no vital parts are damaged,”
“It can stop bleeding within three minutes and partially heal the wound within half an hour.”
“As for this black one…”
She lifted the ink-black reagent and shook it slightly. “I call it ‘Poison of Silence.’ It’s colorless and odorless and can spread through the air.”
“Once inhaled, it paralyzes all the target’s nerves within one second, sending them into a deep, unconscious sleep without any awareness. The duration depends on the dosage.”
“The antidote—only I can make it.”
Outside the laboratory, Chen Mo and all the experts inhaled sharply.
If what she said was true, the value represented by those three small test tubes was simply beyond measure!
This was no longer the value of a mere “player.” It was a strategic treasure capable of propelling a nation’s power to a whole new level!
Thus, at Chen Mo’s signal, an average-built soldier was brought into the laboratory.
Wang Jingyi handed him the red reagent. “Drink it.”
The soldier hesitated, glancing toward Chen Mo. Only after receiving his permission did he raise his head and drink it down in one gulp.
The next second, a shocking scene unfolded.
The soldier’s body swelled visibly to the naked eye. His muscles bulged, veins protruding like ropes.
At Chen Mo’s command, he grabbed a special steel bar used for material strength testing. With both arms straining, the thumb-thick bar was bent into a “U” shape by sheer force!
Everyone outside the laboratory drew in a cold breath.
Wang Jingyi calmly introduced, “This Rage Serum—I can produce a hundred vials a day.”
Then, a staff member pushed in a live experimental pig. Another, without hesitation, plunged a military dagger straight through its body.
Wang Jingyi picked up the test tube containing the green liquid and poured it over the pig’s wound. The bleeding stopped visibly, and the tissue began to knit together.
……
After completing the demonstration, Wang Jingyi was escorted back to the interrogation room.
“Director Chen,”
Wang Jingyi sat back down, her tone calm. “Now, can we talk?”
“What do you want?” Chen Mo asked in a low voice.
“It’s simple. I need you to use the power of the state to help me win this game.”
“I don’t care whether you kill players from 【Radiance】 or 【Shadow】. I just want to survive—and continue my research.”
“I have no interest in slaughter or conspiracy. What I pursue is eternal knowledge.”
“If you can provide a top-tier biological laboratory and unlimited raw materials, I’d be more than happy to work for you, supplying you with a steady stream of Transcendent reagents.”
“If you can provide Transcendent materials, I can create even more miraculous potions!”
“I can even help you analyze other players’ abilities—see if we can replicate ‘Divine Grace’ at the genetic level.”
Chen Mo’s heart pounded violently.
He knew the offer Wang Jingyi had just placed on the table was one his entire nation could never refuse.
……
At the urgently convened high-level video conference, when Chen Mo fully disclosed Wang Jingyi’s proposal, the breathing of those usually emotionless leaders on the other end grew heavy.
“Collaborate with 【Shadow】 to hunt down 【Radiance】?!”
“Never mind the others—what about Comrade Li Wei? He’s always been utterly loyal to the government.”
Chen Mo argued resolutely against the decision. “This is outright betrayal!”
On the screen, an elderly man frowned. “Comrade Chen Mo, watch your words!”
“These are Transcendent times. We must consider the bigger picture!”
“The bigger picture?!”
“To gain power, you would abandon principle and resort to any means?”
“Then how are we any different from those Transcendent criminals who unleash chaos for their own desires?!”
“And the 【Radiance】 fac—” Chen Mo tried to continue.
“The current state of the 【Radiance】 faction—you know it better than we do!”
Another cold voice cut him off. “One defected, one’s missing, one’s mentally unstable and imprisoned.”
“The remaining two—do their combined worth even come close to Wang Jingyi alone?”
“At this point, the 【Radiance】 faction’s chances of victory are almost nonexistent!”
“We cannot hang ourselves on a tree that’s about to fall!”
“Wang Jingyi’s value is strategic!”
“She can give us a lead in the Transcendent Era over every other nation on Earth!”
“……”
Chen Mo knew that once Wang Jingyi had demonstrated an ability capable of transforming national power itself, things like principles and loyalties no longer mattered.
“Chen Mo, this is an order!”
“At all costs, protect Wang Jingyi and obtain all her technology.”
“As for the others… they may be sacrificed if necessary.”
In the end, the most authoritative voice delivered the final command: “Chen Mo, understand this—this is Bureau 869’s only chance. And your last chance.”
……
The meeting ended.
Chen Mo sat alone in the empty command center, surrounded by cold machines and blinking data screens.
He felt an exhaustion and loneliness like never before.
He lit a cigarette, letting the harsh smoke burn in his lungs.
He thought of Li Wei’s face—so full of trust—and of the promises he had once made to them.
And now, he was about to tear all of it apart with his own hands.
Finally, he stubbed out the cigarette and slowly stood up.
In the interrogation room, Wang Jingyi still sat there quietly.
Seeing Chen Mo’s exhausted and conflicted face, she revealed a knowing smile.
Chen Mo looked at her, his throat bobbing as he struggled to speak. At last, he said, “From this moment on,”
His voice was hollow, devoid of emotion. “In front of Li Wei and Bai Yu, your identity will be that of a 【Radiance】 faction player, codename 【Healer】.”
