Chapter 318 : Ownership of the Cats

Lin Nan stood idly outside the school clinic, leaning against the wall and occasionally looking up at passersby.

She stood somewhat nervously with her thighs pressed together. Her light blue jeans tightly wrapped around her legs and buttocks, the rough fabric making her constantly feel itchy and uncomfortable, causing a faint blush on her face.

Although outsiders couldn't tell, she always felt that when pedestrians looked at her, they could somehow sense her secret.

No one can tell I'm not wearing underwear, right?

Originally, she thought this unlock method should be acceptable, but when she considered that she still had a full three days and two nights left without being able to wear underwear, Lin Nan felt uncomfortable all over.

"What are you thinking about?" Chen Yao pushed open the clinic door, a thick gauze pad taped to his cheek.

Lin Nan looked up and almost couldn't help laughing out loud with a "pfft."

He gave Lin Nan a look. His eyes were still a bit red. When they'd applied the medicine just now, it hurt so much that he'd been crying out. Yet Lin Nan, the culprit, still had the mood to laugh.

Lin Nan quickly suppressed her laughter and asked with concern: "You okay? It should get better in a couple days."

"Just don't slap me flying again." Chen Yao sighed lifelessly. "I'm scared of you now. I'll keep sleeping on the sofa for the next few days."

"Who told you to get handsy when sleeping at night?" Lin Nan put her hands on her hips and raised her head, acting justified even though she wasn't.

This was typical of the wicked filing the first complaint. Chen Yao carefully recalled last night's situation. Clearly it was Lin Nan who'd gotten handsy with him first, right?

But very quickly Lin Nan lowered her head and said guiltily: "I should sleep on the sofa instead. You sleep on the bed."

"Or maybe you should just stay in the dorm from now on? Climbing over the wall every night after roll call to come find me is pretty troublesome anyway." Lin Nan turned her head away and said quietly.

"Then I wouldn't even know if someone kidnapped you." Chen Yao didn't really blame Lin Nan much. It just hurt so much he was grimacing, and because of the swelling on his cheek, even eating and chewing was difficult.

The two slowly walked toward the convenience store. They hadn't eaten anything this morning, and by now their stomachs were starting to protest.

Chen Yao couldn't eat hard foods. He bought soy milk and soft bread, then returned to the classroom.

It was still break time. Big Dog saw Chen Yao return and immediately came over: "Who hit you? That's pretty heavy-handed."

Several classmates Chen Yao usually played games with, or friends he played basketball with, all gathered around, forming a circle and asking after Chen Yao with concern. Lin Nan silently moved a bit farther away, continuing to eat her bread expressionlessly, feeling very guilty.

She really had hit too hard.

Fortunately, Chen Yao didn't seem to be planning to hold a grudge.

Should I think of a way to apologize and make amends? Give him something Chen Yao likes...

She frowned, tilting her head and trying hard to recall what Chen Yao liked. Basketball, games... There didn't seem to be anything else.

Following the flow of students leaving class into the corridor, before Lin Nan could speak, she saw Lilith holding Cola tightly with an unhappy expression.

"Are you going to keep it or not? If not, give it to me!" She looked completely unwilling, huffing. "If Lina hadn't said this was your cat, I would've just taken it away already."

"She said she wanted to keep it herself. I thought I should ask your opinion."

Lina beside her explained with a smile.

Lin Nan looked at Lilith suspiciously: "I feel like you'd abuse it."

"I make food for it every day, okay! Unlike you who just knows how to feed it cat food, and later didn't even have cat food, feeding this old lady leftovers every day until I got skinny!" Lilith bared her teeth at Lin Nan, hugging Cola even tighter. "Running off to live shamelessly with Chen Yao, leaving this old lady in the countryside! You don't deserve to have a cat!"

"That's because you ran away yourself."

"And you still wanted to get it neutered!" Lilith was getting a bit worked up. The scenes of being bullied and threatened by Lin Nan as a cat over the past half year appeared one by one in her mind. This further strengthened her belief that Lin Nan didn't deserve to have a cat.

Lin Nan couldn't explain to Lilith why cats needed to be neutered. This kind of thing varied from person to person anyway.

So she turned to look at the Sprite in Lina's arms: "What about that one?"

"I want to keep it myself too." Lina smiled. "We'll return them to you after a while when we go back."

"Not returning it!"

Lin Nan ignored Lilith's shouting. Just as she was about to say something, Chen Yao also came out of the classroom. As soon as he saw Lilith, his expression immediately changed. He quickly came forward and blocked Lin Nan behind him.

His face was gloomy. The scene of Lin Nan being tripped yesterday was still vivid. He didn't expect this girl to come looking for trouble again.

"Oh, what happened to your face?" Seeing the gauze on his face, Lilith asked in a sarcastic tone. "Did someone beat you up? Got hit that badly and you're still worried about Lin Nan?"

Chen Yao was stunned for a moment. The pain in his cheek suddenly made him recall the scene of being slapped flying last night. He immediately realized that Lin Nan probably didn't need him to protect her at all.

So he lowered his head and said quietly to Lin Nan: "Don't get physical. If you can talk it out, talk. We can't afford the medical bills."

He felt he should protect Lilith and Lina instead.

Lin Nan looked at him with mixed feelings and nodded, then looked at the two of them: "You can keep the cats for now. Just return them to me later."

"Not returning them! If I return them to you, you'll take them to get neutered! You're depriving them of their biological instincts! You never think about what the cat wants!" Lilith took two steps back, looking at Lin Nan warily, then tugged at Lina's sleeve. "Let's go, let's go. I told you she'd agree."

Lin Nan watched the two of them leave holding the cats and sighed softly. Clearly, Lilith had been badly frightened by the word "neutering" when she was a cat.

But a normal cat wouldn't think about such complicated things like she did.
