Chapter 278 : Lin Nan's Relatives

This was Chen Yao's first time coming to Lin Nan's grandfather's house.

Or rather, his first time stepping through the door. Last time he had already gone through the entrance, but was pulled away by Lin Nan's mother to talk about life.

He wasn't familiar with Lin Nan's relatives. The only two he was somewhat familiar with were Lin Nan's mother and Uncle, but even then he hadn't seen them more than a few times.

He walked into the house with awkwardness and nervousness, rather regretting not bringing any gifts today.

Lin Nan saw him too nervous to walk properly and immediately came up close, whispering in his ear, "Besides my mom, little cousin, and grandparents, everyone else smokes."

Having known Chen Yao for so long, Lin Nan naturally knew this guy almost always carried a pack of cigarettes for socializing.

Although she thought this habit was a bit like a good-for-nothing thug from the streets, it was actually something Chen Yao and Lin Nan had picked up after hanging around internet cafes too long back in the day.

Chen Yao immediately understood what Lin Nan meant. He pulled out a pack of Furongwang from his pocket, smiled, and drew out a cigarette to hand to Liu Xinyi who was sitting on a stool by the entrance playing with her phone.

"Such expensive cigarettes…" Liu Xinyi looked up and saw the cigarette, happily accepting it. She then called out affectionately, "Brother-in-law is so nice."

This "brother-in-law" made Chen Yao's heart bloom with joy, and made Lin Nan want nothing more than to go over and give her a kick.

Chen Yao eagerly handed another cigarette to Wu Jiaming. It was just simply sharing some cigarettes, but he quickly integrated into Lin Nan's cousin group. The three of them picked up their phones, each grabbed a small stool, sat in a row at the entrance, and immediately started playing PUBG in a three-person squad.

Lin Nan saw him getting along well with Wu Jiaming and Liu Xinyi, then looked up toward the relatives in the back hall kitchen who were still discussing something. She sighed as if life had lost all meaning.

"Mom, where are you and Eldest Uncle staying today?"

Lin Nan asked curiously.

Although Grandfather's house was a four-story small villa, there wasn’t enough. Each floor only had two rooms, and the fourth floor hadn't even been renovated. There simply weren't enough rooms to go around.

Mother didn't think much about it and immediately answered, "Your Eldest Uncle has a house in town. I'll just go stay there for a few days."

"Is that so?"

"He also has a house in the provincial capital that he bought a few years ago. I've been seen it before. It's quite big."

Mother was speaking when she saw Wu Guodong come out of the kitchen carrying a large basin of yuanxiao.

She immediately went to the kitchen and brought out seven or eight small bowls and spoons, helped distribute the yuanxiao from the big basin, and then called out to the three people playing games by the entrance: "Stop playing, come eat yuanxiao."

"I'm not eating!" Liu Xinyi refused without hesitation. "I don't like meat yuanxiao."

"There's peanut and red bean paste too. Hurry up and come eat."

"After this match, don't rush." Chen Yao looked up at the two of them, then turned back to look at Lin Nan's mother. He felt somewhat guilty and didn't dare continue playing anymore: "I'd better eat first..." He was afraid of ruining the good impression he had worked so hard to leave on Lin Nan's mom. He couldn't be bothered to continue playing with these two, so he put away his phone and came over to the table.

He put on the appearance of a good boy, accepted the small bowl that Lin Nan's mom handed over with both hands, and politely said thank you.

Chen Yao felt constrained when around elders. He turned to look at Lin Nan and found his girlfriend looking at him with a smile that wasn't quite a smile.

"Now you know how uncomfortable I felt at your house!" Lin Nan kicked him under the table without warning.

Chen Yao's eyes went wide from the pain, but he didn't dare cry out. He mumbled guiltily, "The way I saw it, after staying a few more days you were almost like their daughter. Where was the discomfort?"

Mother watched the two flirting and didn't pay much attention. She instructed, "The rain is so heavy outside. Go upstairs later, turn on the air conditioning to warm up, and take a shower."

Chen Yao had long been wanting to find a place to be alone with Lin Nan.

However, before he finished eating the yuanxiao, Lin Nan's other relatives came out from the kitchen to the living room, talking and laughing. When they saw him, they looked a bit surprised and whispered to each other asking whose child this was.

"I don't think I've seen him before?"

Chen Yao felt extremely embarrassed. No matter how outgoing he usually was, he was at a loss in this kind of situation. Fortunately, Lin Nan's mother came to the rescue: "Lin Nan's boyfriend."

"Finding a boyfriend so young?"

"Lin Nan's doing well. Being pretty really makes a difference." Eldest Aunt teasingly threw Lin Nan a smile that all women would understand.

Being teased in front of a group of relatives, Lin Nan couldn't muster any will to rebut at all. She quickly stuffed the last yuanxiao into her mouth, grabbed Chen Yao's hand, and ran upstairs.

"Mom, I'm going upstairs to use the air conditioning!"

"Oh my, she's embarrassed." Eldest Aunt watched Lin Nan's panicked escape and said to Lin Nan's mom with eyes full of sentiment, "Her personality is really like yours back then."

"Really?"

Mother was stunned for a moment. After nearly twenty years of marriage, she had long forgotten what she was like back then.

On the other side, Lin Nan brought Chen Yao to the third-floor bedroom. With no one around, Chen Yao finally let out a breath of relief. His tense body immediately relaxed, and he lazily tried to lie down on the bed.

But as soon as he sat down, Lin Nan hurriedly pulled him back up.

"Your clothes are all wet, don't lie on my bed!"

"They're not that wet. At most just the pant legs are wetter." He smiled bitterly with helplessness. "I really can't deal with those relatives of yours. It's quite uncomfortable."

"Don't I also have trouble dealing with your parents?"

Lin Nan's clothes were also quite wet, so she simply sat on Liu Xinyi's floor bedding. It wasn't where she slept, so it didn't matter if it got wet.

"Your mom still sleeps on the floor?"

"No, my younger cousin sleeps here." Lin Nan answered, then looked at the black and white cats sleeping on old clothes in the corner. She suggested to Chen Yao, "Why don't you go take a shower? You got all wet."

Although the raincoat had blocked some of it, it was after all a single-person raincoat. With that torrential downpour, there was no way it could completely block all the rain.

Turning on the warm air from the room's air conditioner, Lin Nan comfortably lay down on the floor. Having wet clothes really wasn't pleasant.

However, not long after Chen Yao entered the bathroom, he poked his head out from the bedroom door and asked, "Lin Nan, was this the bathroom when you video called me before?"

Lin Nan was confused for a moment, then understood he was talking about what happened during the bathtub video call last time.

She became angry from embarrassment and grabbed a drink bottle from the floor to throw at Chen Yao.

"You already saw everything, what's there to be shy about?" Chen Yao dodged the bottle attack and continued teasing Lin Nan. "Too bad there was too much steam so I didn't actually see anything."

"Shameless!" Lin Nan was both angry and embarrassed. She grabbed the innocent Cola and chased after Chen Yao.

However, Chen Yao slipped into the bathroom with one swift move, locked the door, and leisurely whistled inside the bathroom.
