Chapter 226 : Playing Mahjong
Chapter 226 : Playing Mahjong
"Get up, time for breakfast."
A familiar voice suddenly came from beside her ear. Lin Nan opened her eyes groggily and stared blankly at her grandmother standing by the bed.
Grandmother placed breakfast items like soy milk and fried dough sticks on the nightstand. "Remember to take them downstairs to throw away when you're done eating."
She looked at Liu Xinyi sleeping on the floor mat and muttered, "You were willing to sleep together before you became a girl, so why do you need to sleep separately now?"
Lin Nan answered in a daze, rolled over, found a comfortable position and continued sleeping.
She didn't know how much time had passed when she suddenly woke up.
Grandmother had already disappeared, and the breakfast on the nightstand had gone cold. After eating barbecue late last night, her stomach still didn't feel hungry.
She sat up and stared blankly into space. It was a long while before she remembered last night's bizarre experience.
How did Cola go out once and become the boss of stray cats?
She turned her head to look at Cola curled up sleeping at the head of the bed. She had wanted to pounce on it and play with it, but the problem was that thinking about how her cat now had status as an upper-class cat made her feel a bit guilty.
What if I make it angry and it calls a bunch of cats to scratch me? Lin Nan quickly rummaged through her suitcase and pulled out a can of cat food, preparing to curry favor with her cat.
However, Cola's ears moved and it soon woke up. It stretched lazily and looked at the cat food with great disdain.
You should know that outside, its underlings would steal hot braised pork to offer as tribute. Although it was too dirty for her to even take a bite, rolling around and acting cute at people's doorsteps could also get her some fresh, hot food.
Looking at Lin Nan, all she knew was feeding cat food and canned food. Very disdainful.
Cola turned its head and jumped out the window, standing majestically on the balcony and meowing once, with the imposing presence of a lion on the grassland.
Then it stepped on air and nearly fell straight down from the third floor, wailing and climbing back up.
Liu Xinyi, sleeping on the floor, was woken up. She stretched and got up, then had a meat bun stuffed in her mouth by Lin Nan.
"Mmph?"
She stared wide-eyed at Lin Nan who was somehow already kneeling beside her.
"Eat breakfast, I already ate mine." Lin Nan had no appetite. She hadn't touched the breakfast at all and decided to trick her just-awakened cousin into eating as much as she could.
Liu Xinyi took a bite, her head still aching a bit, unable to figure out what was going on.
She and Wu Jiaming had drunk yesterday. Her face was a bit swollen now and her head was throbbing badly. She was almost defenseless as Lin Nan stuffed two meat buns into her stomach, then drank a bowl of soy milk in a daze.
"I can't eat anymore." She said with a bitter face, covering her stomach and burping.
Lin Nan glanced at the last remaining bowl of soy milk. "Even if you can't eat, you have to. Otherwise Grandfather will definitely scold you."
So she picked up the bowl and poured it toward Liu Xinyi's mouth. In her cousin's struggle, soy milk spilled everywhere.
After the commotion early in the morning, Lin Nan discovered that Cola had disappeared again.
She was no longer worried about Cola's safety now, but was quite worried that it would bring a group of stray cats to harm the people.
I should find a hospital to get Cola neutered!
After washing up, Lin Nan finally felt much more refreshed. Yawning, she came to the first-floor hall and found that her cousin and uncle had already woken up.
Neither of them seemed to have slept well, with dark circles around their eyes. They were sitting at the round table cracking melon seeds and chatting.
"Only getting up when it's almost lunchtime?" Wu Guodong didn't know they had gone out for a late-night snack last night. He pointed at the mahjong box under the TV cabinet and asked, "Want to play mahjong?"
"Sure."
There wasn't much fun at Grandfather's place anyway, and the internet was only somewhat stable on the second floor. Everyone present was bored to death.
Lin Nan wasn't very skilled at mahjong, but the other three all played quite well, especially Liu Xinyi, who had started playing in elementary school and could now compete with experts like Grandfather and Grandmother.
"Playing for money?"
Lin Nan shook her head without hesitation. "No, I don't have money."
She was the only one at the table who had only a vague understanding of mahjong. If they played for money, she'd probably be treated as a cash cow.
While playing mahjong, they began discussing whether to find some places to visit. Only Lin Nan had a serious face, trying to arrange her messy tile arrangement properly.
When the other three had finished chatting, arranged their tiles and started playing, Lin Nan was still fumbling around, not yet understanding which tile she didn't need.
Fortunately, the others weren't in a hurry. Wu Guodong turned back to glance at the tightly closed door. Seeing that Lin Nan's grandparents hadn't returned yet, he quickly lit a cigarette.
Although he was almost thirty, the problem was that no matter how old you got, you were still a child in your parents' eyes. Every time they saw him smoking, they lectured him.
But as long as they didn't see him, it was fine. They wouldn't say much about just the smell of smoke.
Lin Nan frowned as she picked up a five circles tile, but hesitated for a long time before putting it down again and finally discarding a one character tile.
She really wasn't good at playing mahjong. If she played the mobile game version, with the system's hints and assistance she could play decently, but with real people she wasn't so good.
That distressed appearance made Wu Guodong's heart ripple. This niece of his was becoming more and more bewitching, extraordinarily attractive to men in every gesture.
"By the way, you should take that cat to get neutered. It's always in heat running around outside, which isn't good. If it gets pregnant again when it comes back, you'll have a headache." Wu Jiaming opened his mouth to remind her. "Not many people keep native cats these days. You won't have anywhere to give away the kittens. You can't just abandon them, right?"
Although Cola had sort of saved them yesterday, no matter how he thought about it, he felt that the nearby stray dogs becoming violent might be because Cola had gathered a group of cats to run wild.
After all, stray cats and dogs both had to rummage through trash cans for food. If the cats were too dominant, hungry dogs would naturally turn their attention to humans.
"I know. Next time it comes back, I'll catch it and take it to the pet hospital for a checkup." Lin Nan said this and felt another headache coming on. "But the problem is, I don't have money..."
She wanted to find a winter break job, but the break was already a week in. It was too late to look for work now.
"By the way, that infectious disease over there seems to be almost over." Wu Jiaming brought up the epidemic in another region. "The news said the local government took it very seriously and immediately took measures, screening everyone."
"Really?" Lin Nan was stunned and asked, "What do you think would happen if they didn't take it seriously?"
"They say it's quite a serious infectious disease. If they didn't control it, with the current peak return home period, I'm afraid it would spread nationwide." Wu Guodong interjected. "Now the whole country has taken it seriously. Everyone returning home from the epidemic zone has to be quarantined."
It sounded very serious, but the country was indeed very effective. Just a few days after a doctor reported suspected infectious disease, they immediately took action. She had heard about this matter just a few days ago, and today it was already mostly handled.
As they were talking, Liu Xinyi suddenly pushed her tiles away and exclaimed excitedly, "I won! Sister, reward me with a kiss!"
"Get lost!"
Lin Nan pushed her face in the opposite direction, and her own body also leaned back slightly.
"Then let's play strip mahjong! Whoever loses the most has to take off clothes!"
"Get lost!"
Lin Nan was thoroughly disgusted.
