Chapter 828 - 827: Is This... Talismanic Water?

Chapter 828 - 827: Is This... Talismanic Water?

The car continued to move, and after another hour or so it finally stopped. Once the car halted, some people got on and blindfolded the seven children amidst their terrified cries, then took them off the car.Luo Yirui and Jing Changle pressed their lips tightly together. Although they weren’t crying, their little faces under the black cloth were exceptionally pale.

Stumbling, Luo Yirui felt himself being pushed down the stairs, no, it should be the basement. Because of the blindfold, he couldn’t see; someone was holding his shirt collar from the back, preventing him from falling, but it was extremely uncomfortable.

He felt like he walked down several flights of stairs, yet didn’t sense any corners that typically mark the end of each flight, as if they didn’t exist.

Despite being blindfolded, their descent wasn’t slow. They still walked for over ten minutes, and when his feet finally touched solid ground, the force on his collar disappeared as well.

"Five of you will stay here, and two of you will be separated and placed with the other three," a man’s voice said.

Upon hearing this, Luo Yirui moved his feet slightly, leaning towards Jing Changle. Soon, he felt someone untying the ropes on his hands before giving him a strong push.

After gaining freedom in his hands, Luo Yirui quickly tore off the black cloth covering his eyes, and what he saw surprised him greatly.

He had expected a cellar or a prison like those seen on TV, but he didn’t expect this to be a dormitory!

It was indeed like a dormitory; the room had five single beds, complete with bedding and basic toiletries. If it weren’t for the lack of windows and the slightly damp floor, he would have thought they were in some sort of dormitory.

Turning to look, Luo Yirui saw Jing Changle also surveying the place, which relaxed him a bit, at least Jing Changle wouldn’t break down crying. Having someone to talk to and plan with was better than being alone.

Jing Changle, upon seeing Luo Yirui, also felt a wave of relief.

The two of them glanced at the beds, which were relatively clean, then sat on the nearest ones. Since they were brought here, there was little chance of being let out easily; it was better to play it by ear for now.

The two little ones sat silently on their beds, intermittent sobbing could be heard, not only from their cellmates but also from other cells.

Indeed, this was still a prison. Only when the two little ones turned did they see the thumb-thick iron bars, realizing it was a dormitory-style cell. Opposite and surrounding cells held many children about their ages.

"Are we going to die here?" Jing Changle asked softly with a sullen expression.

Luo Yirui remained silent; he didn’t know how to answer this question. Perhaps, but he felt that his parents would come looking for him.

After a while, two men came over, carrying a large bucket of water. They ladled out a bowl of water from it, then passed it through the iron bars and placed it on the ground.

"Each of you, drink a bowl! Hurry up!" The man’s voice was like thunder, hurting their eardrums and scaring the three sobbing children into silence, though their tears flowed even more profusely.

All the children were terrified, none daring to drink the water in the bowl. Only Luo Yirui showed a puzzled expression as he sniffed the water gently with his nose.

This is... talismanic water?!

Luo Yirui grew up with an understanding of these concepts, knowing them very well.

"You! Come here!" The man suddenly pointed at Luo Yirui.

Luo Yirui was startled. His mother had told him not to show if he had a sense of talismanic water because he was too young. He assumed the man had noticed something.

"Come here!" The man glared at Luo Yirui.

Luo Yirui forced himself to calm down, though his face was pale. He stood up cautiously, walked to the iron bars, and stopped a meter away from the man.

"Drink it all, not a single drop left!" The man ordered, pointing at the bowl of talismanic water with a low growl.

Luo Yirui was briefly stunned, realizing it wasn’t because of any discovery. He looked down at the talismanic water and knew from the sniff earlier that it was for replenishing energy and blood, with nothing harmful in it. In fact, it even helps to increase energy and blood.

He had drunk this since he was a child, it was overly familiar to him!

Despite the crude appearance of this talismanic water, far from the quality of those made by his mother, Luo Yirui confirmed there was no danger and downed it.

The other kids widened their eyes, watching Luo Yirui drink the water, all silent in observation, perhaps wondering if Luo Yirui would be poisoned.

Jing Changle also looked on with a pale face. A trace of sadness flashed in his eyes, making Luo Yirui inexplicably want to laugh. Did he think Luo Yirui was going to die?

"It quenches thirst," Luo Yirui said to Jing Changle.

Jing Changle looked at him with wide eyes, dazed, unsure of what to say.

"See, it’s just water. Hurry up, little brats, each of you, drink a bowl!" the man said impatiently.

If they weren’t ordered not to touch these children, they would have just gone in, grabbed their chins, and poured it down their throats. Why bother with all this hassle!

Even after seeing Luo Yirui was fine, the children were reluctant to drink. However, the man’s bellowing scared them into silence, forcing them to finish the talismanic water, weeping as they did so.

Every child in each cell had to drink a bowl; only after ensuring everyone drank did the guards leave.

Jing Changle covered his stomach, his mouth slightly open as if about to vomit. Noticing this, Luo Yirui said, "This is good for you, a medicine to replenish blood energy."

Jing Changle clearly didn’t believe it, "This is just a bowl of clear water, how can it be medicine!"

Luo Yirui didn’t explain further, grabbing the bars and looking outside, "Trust me, we need to preserve our strength."

He glanced around; this underground wasn’t as large as imagined, with only seven cells. If each cell held five people, how many in total?

Luo Yirui felt confused, his math hadn’t reached multiplication yet, only knowing how to add and subtract within a hundred...

"Five times seven is thirty-five!" Jing Changle said, watching him draw tally marks on the ground.

Luo Yirui felt a small blow to his little heart, Jing Changle was only a little older, yet had already learned multiplication and division. He decided he must learn this too!

This underground cell held thirty-five children, and there were probably six guards. If all the children rushed out together, what are the chances of escaping?

Luo Yirui pondered internally, thinking it unlikely.

"Why are they giving us medicine to replenish our energy and blood?" Jing Changle asked.

"You fatten a pig before slaughtering it," Luo Yirui replied, making Jing Changle’s face go pale.
