Chapter 827 - 825: Aren’t You Afraid?

Chapter 827 - 825: Aren’t You Afraid?

Luo Yirui curled up in the corner, the car body constantly bumping. He had no idea where they were headed or what would happen; all around was pitch black, but he could hear the cries of other children. Their sobbing was subdued, because loud crying would lead to being hit or scolded. This was probably a minivan, with no seats at all. The children, including him, were dumped inside, their hands tied behind their backs. After about two hours of driving, the tape on their mouths was finally removed, and they were given a bit of water.

Other than being hit and scolded for crying, those people didn’t pay attention to them at other times, instead enjoying good food and drink. Despite his young age, Luo Yirui understood that if you want to eat pork, you must first fatten the pig.

Are they the pigs now?

"They keep crying, so annoying."

Luo Yirui was deep in thought, then he heard a voice next to him, carrying a hint of irritation, yet it was still free of sobs.

"What’s the use of crying!" A boy shouted lowly, but the people around continued crying, ignoring his words.

Luo Yirui spoke, "They’re scared."

The boy was taken aback upon hearing this voice, probably not expecting someone so calm to be here. At least the voice sounded very calm, even calmer than his, though his irritation also stemmed from fear.

"Who are you, where are you?" the boy asked.

"Bottom right corner of the car." As soon as Luo Yirui finished speaking, he heard someone crawl towards him and quickly arrive nearby, clearly the two were not far apart.

The boy sat beside Luo Yirui, "Aren’t you afraid?" he asked.

"I am," Luo Yirui answered truthfully.

It was too dark inside the car. The boy looked at Luo Yirui, only able to vaguely see his silhouette, not his expression. "You don’t sound afraid," he said.

Luo Yirui sighed, "It’s just that they make me seem calm."

He gestured with his mouth, indicating the crying children around.

The boy was silent. He would turn six next month, daily worried about homework and where to play, but never imagined facing such a terrifying situation.

Yet, he’d always been brave. Even scared, he didn’t cry. Compared to other children, he was quite good, but compared to the one beside him, he was lacking.

"My name is Jing Changle, what’s yours?" Jing Changle asked.

"My name is Luo Yirui."

"Do you know where they are taking us?"

"I don’t know. Might be sold to a remote area, or maybe..."

"What else?"

"Nothing." Luo Yirui didn’t say more, not because he didn’t want to, but because even if he explained, it might not be understood.

Luo Yirui had two younger sisters, and was more mature compared to ordinary kids, partly due to different living conditions. Since childhood, he’d been exposed to things other kids weren’t, so from an early age, he understood the Mystic Doctor.

His fifth birthday was approaching, and his mother had mentioned a few things, warning him to never go with strangers because if he did, it might not be as simple as being sold to an isolated area; he might not even survive!

His mother didn’t describe the process, but her expression was very serious and stern while speaking, and even though Luo Yirui was young, he was sensitive to adult emotions. He could tell his mother was extremely worried when she spoke of these things.

Unexpectedly, her words came true, though he wasn’t lured away by strangers.

Luo Yirui had heard from his mother about his two sisters’ uniqueness, although she hadn’t specified the details. But he knew early on that they couldn’t be together, once his uncle nearly let them hold hands out of oversight, and his grandmother furiously beat him.

His mother also said that if his sisters’ condition was discovered, bad people might exploit them. Therefore, when Luo Yirui noticed suspicious characters lurking near his home, he became suspicious immediately.

Unable to confirm their identities and unwilling to create a commotion, he quietly followed one of them for a while but was unfortunately discovered.

The person didn’t feel threatened by Luo Yirui at all, attempting to lure him with toys, but Luo Yirui wasn’t fooled. The person, seeing few people around, decided to shove him into a sack and take him away.

Luo Yirui was too young; facing an adult felt like facing a giant, realizing the danger and trying to escape was simply unmanageable. He was taken onto a minivan, and after spending a night at an unknown place, was dragged onto it again before the next dawn.

During this period, several children were brought over gradually, which somewhat reassured Luo Yirui. These people weren’t targeting his sisters, which brought him relief.

As for himself, his mother had advised him to remain calm during crises, not to cry or fuss, maintaining a clear mind to observe surroundings.

What Luo Yirui could do now was wait for an opportunity to leave a trace or call for help.

"We must find a way to escape!" Jing Changle whispered.

Luo Yirui agreed strongly, "Wait for a chance."

The minivan stopped once midway, unclear if it was due to other vehicles. Many adults were outside, asking if the children inside needed to relieve themselves.

Luo Yirui and Jing Changle intended to escape during this opportunity, but unexpectedly, even peeing had two people overseeing, watching closely, never averting their gaze.

This left the little ones with no options but to return to the minivan and rethink strategies.

Before long, people started distributing food; each child got a bread and a sausage, the bread quite large, ample in quantity.

Other children were crying for home, or crying for food if hungry. Among them, only Jing Changle and Luo Yirui were seriously eating.

They knew not eating well would leave them without strength to escape.

Inside the car, the outsiders hadn’t noticed these two little ones were different, busy in conversations.

Perhaps they didn’t care about the group of children, their conversations contained significant information.

"Is just bread and sausage too little? The boss mentioned nutritional richness."

"What else? They’ve been given sausages, which aren’t cheap."

"True, and the boss wouldn’t ask much as long as these little brats arrived a few pounds heavier, that’s fine."

"Is this the last batch? This time there might be over twenty brats, wonder what they’ll be used for."

"Better not know. After entering, never seen out again. Don’t ask, get our money and enjoy, ready the smokes, let’s hit the road—just over an hour to the place."

Listening to the conversations outside, Luo Yirui quietly threw a one yuan note through the window slit as they returned to their respective vehicles.
