Chapter 3 Roommate
Chapter 3 Roommate
Lin Yu seems to have many choices, but upon closer examination, there aren't many truly suitable projects.
He knew his own limitations very well.
In my past life, I worked with a friend on a short film for a while. I was called the assistant director, but I did all sorts of things.
If there aren't enough screenwriters, he'll step in and write a few episodes; if the editors are too busy, he'll bite the bullet and lend a hand; even if they can't find all the actors at the last minute, he'll step in and make a cameo appearance.
The advantage is that I've honed my basic skills. After filming dozens of short dramas, I've gained some understanding of filming fundamentals, editing rhythm, and how to communicate with actors.
The downside is that short dramas and movies are very different.
Therefore, the first project should focus on learning and practice. The scenes and plots should not be too complicated, so that he can practice the basics.
Of course, he could learn from a famous director and hire four assistant directors to help with the filming. But that would be more of a producer or screenwriter's approach, making him a nominal director, which isn't suitable for practice.
The second condition is that the investment cannot be too large. This doesn't mean he can't find investment, but rather that his personal connections are too valuable to be used to attract investment.
Finally, we need to consider time and reputation. The shooting time should not be too long, and it is best to finish shooting during winter or summer vacation.
A freshman from the performing arts department asked Dean Wang Jinsong to sign a leave slip for him to become a director. Lin Yu was genuinely afraid that Wang Jinsong would pull a rubber band and knock his own window.
The current dean of the acting department at Beijing Film Academy is Wang Jinsong, not the one who later became famous for playing Uncle Dong, but the lunatic who played the one who tried to pull the rubber band out of Feng Gong's pants and flick his window.
The dean in charge of acting instruction is most famous for being a lunatic. No one is alarmed by him. The most important thing is that replacing a piece of glass isn't cheap.
After filtering through these criteria, there weren't many projects left to choose from. Lin Yu flipped through the pages on the computer screen, his brows furrowing deeper and deeper.
As I was picking and choosing, drowsiness crept in, and coupled with the lingering effects of the alcohol, my eyelids felt like they were filled with lead, and the words on the screen started to blur.
Thinking there was no rush, I saved the document, climbed into bed, and went to sleep. Fueled by the alcohol, I slept quite soundly, without even dreaming.
When Lin Yu opened his eyes again, he was awakened by the noise outside the dormitory. Lin Yu was still a little confused after getting up, and it took him a while to remember that he was in the dormitory at Beijing Film Academy.
Stretching, Lin Yu got out of bed, took a towel and a toothbrush cup, and went to the water room. The dormitory's public water room was at the end of the corridor, and it was not very convenient without a private bathroom, but fortunately it was not far away.
As soon as I stepped outside, I saw that the corridor was in a mess. Many new students chose to register on this day, and the whole floor was very lively.
When Lin Yu returned after washing up, there was already another person in the dormitory. He was tall, almost 1.9 meters tall, and quite strong. He was wearing a black T-shirt and was making his bed on a chair.
"Wang Yanyang, from Northeast China." Before Lin Yu could speak, the other party greeted him warmly, his voice carrying a distinct Northeastern accent. "Brother, when did you arrive? I thought I was the first one here."
Lin Yu has been at the Beijing Film Academy for two days, and everyone she's met has been incredibly welcoming. It seems the atmosphere at art schools is truly different.
"Lin Yu is from Yanjing. He lives nearby and arrived yesterday."
"Oh, that's great!" Wang Yanyang's eyes lit up. "If there's anything you don't understand in the future, brother, you'll have to take care of me."
As he spoke, he began packing his luggage quickly, muttering to himself, "I was worried that since everyone in the performing arts department registers on the last day, and there would be media blocking the entrance if I arrived late, I made sure to get up very early..."
Lin Yu smiled, didn't interrupt him, and sat back down in her chair to continue looking at her computer.
This guy is obviously a chatterbox, but the rhythm and content of his speech are quite interesting and don't annoy people.
However, Lin Yu didn't mind; in fact, his outgoing personality made it easier to liven up the atmosphere in the dormitory.
"By the way, bro," Wang Yanyang suddenly leaned over, "Are you in the acting department? When I came here, the dorm supervisor told me there aren't many people in the acting department, so we have to share dorm rooms."
"Performing Arts Department." Lin Yu nodded.
"Then we'll be classmates and roommates from now on!" Wang Yanyang grinned, revealing a set of white teeth. "What a coincidence! Let me tell you, I've always wanted to be an actor since I was little. My mom said I'm talkative, so I'd be perfect for this..."
Lin Yu was both amused and exasperated; this personality was indeed quite suitable.
"And you, bro?" Wang Yanyang asked curiously. "From Beijing? What made you decide to apply to the acting department? Do you have connections in the industry?"
"There's no one in the industry, I just like it." Lin Yu replied casually, without explaining further.
As they were talking, the dormitory door was pushed open again.
Two people entered one after the other, both carrying bags and pulling suitcases. They seemed to be the last two people in dormitory 603.
The one in front had dark skin but very defined features, while the one behind him wore glasses and looked quite refined.
Before Lin Yu could even stand up, Wang Yanyang rushed past him like a gust of wind, greeting him warmly: "My name is Wang Yanyang, I'm from Northeast China, and I'm in the performing arts department. Are you all in our dorm?"
The two who had just entered were caught off guard by Wang Yanyang's enthusiasm. The one in front quickly responded after realizing what was happening: "Li Chao, from Shaanxi, also from the performing arts department."
The guy behind me introduced himself: "Wang Zihong, from Huai'an, also in the performing arts department."
Okay, no need to ask anymore, they're definitely from Jiangsu. When someone introduces their hometown without mentioning the province, there's a 99% chance they're from Jiangsu.
"Lin Yu, a local from Yanjing, majoring in performing arts." Lin Yu also stood up and introduced himself.
Now everyone in dormitory 603 has arrived, and after exchanging greetings, they've essentially become acquainted.
Four people, four beds, just enough to fill the room.
Lin Yu sat back down in his chair and started looking at his computer, while the other three found their beds and began tidying up.
Even with Lin Yu's enhanced memory, none of the three people looked familiar, suggesting that the dormitory's recognition rate was indeed rather low.
That's normal, though. The Beijing Film Academy admits so many students every year, but only a handful actually make it big.
Wang Yanyang packed up quickly, finishing in less than half an hour. After tidying up, he clapped his hands and called out, "I saw a roast duck restaurant near the school gate. How about we go try it together later? It'll be a good opportunity to get to know each other; we'll be roommates from now on."
Li Chao was making the bed when he heard this and looked up: "Sure, I'm hungry too."
Wang Zihong nodded: "Okay, I'd also like to try Peking duck."
Lin Yu didn't refuse, and said with a smile, "Sure, but don't try to take this meal from me later. As the host, I should treat you to the first meal."
Wang Yanyang had originally intended to go to the other dormitories to call them over and invite them to come along, but he stopped after hearing Lin Yu's words. "That's great! Don't worry if I eat too much, I have quite an appetite."
This guy from Northeast China is quite enthusiastic in a measured way, without being annoying. He has the potential to be a producer.
"Eat as much as you want," Lin Yu laughed upon hearing this. "Your family just gave you living expenses; they're not going to eat you out of house and home, are they?"
The group chatted and laughed, and quickly finished getting ready. Looking at the time, it was almost one o'clock, lunchtime. The four of them walked together towards the school gate.
The school gate was noticeably busier than yesterday, with a large number of media outlets gathered outside the small gate. A row of cameras with long lenses and microphones were set up, and reporters stood guard at the gate, waiting to interview new students. Many passersby were also watching, taking photos with their phones.
Lin Yu saw Yang Zi from afar and wanted to go and say hello, but he couldn't squeeze in.
Seeing the media outside the school, Lin Yu put his mask back on, looked at the other three, and asked, "Why don't you guys walk around the main gate? Maybe you can get some screen time and get on TV or something."
"Aren't you going?" Wang Yanyang looked at Lin Yu, who was wearing a mask, with a hint of doubt. "Those of us who study acting definitely have to face the camera. Why don't we go together? Maybe we'll become famous."
Lin Yu waved his hand and said seriously, "My looks are way ahead of yours. If we go together, I'm afraid no one will take pictures of you."
"Bro, you're being a bit too pretentious." Li Chao was still a little unconvinced, but he took a closer look at Lin Yu. This guy was wearing a mask, only revealing his eyes, but those eyes alone were already very striking. His gaze was clear and deep, and he did have a bit of a celebrity look.
"Come on, let's not listen to his bragging," Wang Yanyang said, pulling the other two towards the front door. "Let's give it a try; maybe we can actually make it on camera."
Lin Yu exited through the specially separated fast passage, stood under a tree next to the gate, lit a cigarette, and watched the commotion at the gate with great interest.
Unfortunately, the three guys' plan to get some media attention failed in the end. While Lin Yu was waiting outside, the reporters suddenly became agitated and surrounded a black minivan that had just stopped. Flashes went off one after another, and the sound of camera shutters filled the air.
Lin Yu squinted and, through the gaps in the crowd, saw the car door open and a girl in a light blue dress step out.
The little yellow duck is here.
