Chapter 687: Death, Reincarnation, Wish
Chapter 687: Death, Reincarnation, Wish
In a way, Gao Ming’s wish had been fulfilled. The middle-aged couple before him was not from Xin Lu, but they were not residents of Han Hai either. Even Wang Jie’s uncle couldn’t find anything related to the couple even after checking the database of the whole city.
Probably only Gao Ming knew them because they were Gao Ming’s parents. At least they had their faces.
Gui Yuan first appeared in the old city. The core of its wish was for its parents to stay with it forever. Gao Ming died many times, and he made the same wish whenever he returned. The accumulation of his wish became an anomaly. There was a tenable connection between Gui Yuan and Gao Ming. Their fates were bound together. This was why, after Gao Ming escaped from Han Hai, Gui Yuan had to shoulder Gao Ming’s destiny, and his power suddenly skyrocketed.
Gao Ming had complex emotions when he saw Gui Yuan with his parents’ faces. He didn’t think his wish would create such a monster. Gui Yuan was an authentic Dream Ghost. Its horrible presence enveloped the entire South City’s Zone Six. It was like a billow of dark clouds covering everyone. He was stronger and had a power that was stranger than Yan Xizhi's.
“How long has it been since the arrival of the tragedy? Monsters kept appearing in Han Hai. Even though this city has been massacred, it cannot be underestimated.” Gao Ming ignored the stunned factory workers. He placed down the birthday cake and slowly walked towards Gui Yuan. “You appeared after hearing my wish. Is it because you felt that I was familiar? Actually… we are families. Our fates are closely tied together.” When Gao Ming said that, the person who reacted the most was not Gui Yuan but Wang Jie’s eldest uncle.
The South City Investigation Centre sacrificed hundreds of people to cultivate this Dream Ghost, but Gao Ming announced that it was his family. The ominous feeling in his heart grew. Wang Jie’s uncle quieted down. The office was silent. The atmosphere was chilling. The veins on Wang Jie’s uncle’s arm popped. His eyes sharpened. He ordered all members of the South City Branch to head towards the wish factory.
The workers inside the factory panicked. They had never seen Gui Yuan take on a human shape. This was far beyond their understanding. Even though the middle-aged couple was not Gao Ming’s parents, they had a special connection to Gao Ming, influenced by their core wish. Strangely enough, Gui Yuan somehow treated Gao Ming as its own son. A normal person would have something taken away from them when they made a wish, but Gao Ming made a wish, and Gui Yuan appeared on its own before midnight. The differential treatment was too obvious. Gao Ming discovered that Gui Yuan didn’t have any malice towards him. The scary presence only isolated the outside world. “Trust your senses. We were one. I can prove it to you.”
Gao Ming cut open his chest. After a hesitation, he showed Gui Yuan the sealed memory. Death, reincarnation, wishes… Gao Ming’s door to the torture room was like the way home.
Gui Yuan reached its hand into the room to explore, but Gao Ming shook his head. “Unlike your wish room, you’ll lose your freedom once you enter my room.”
Gui Yuan paused. Then, something strange happened. Gui Yuan split into two. They were Gao Ming’s father and mother. When Gao Ming said there was a one-way entry to enter his torture room, Gao Ming’s parents shared a look, exchanging information wordlessly. A few seconds later, the father stayed while the mother smiled at Gao Ming. She crawled into his chest and entered the torture room!Half of Gui Yuan stayed in Han Hai, while the other half stayed in Gao Ming’s heart. They shared everything.
Endless deaths built the torture room, and the endless wishes formed an anomaly. They walked the same path. Gui Yuan’s expression was no longer cold. The longer he stayed beside Gao Ming, the more human he became. It was hard to tell if he found something on Gao Ming or he took something from him.
“I didn’t lie to you. I came here to discuss something with you.” Gao Ming shut his mouth and entered his torture room to communicate directly with Gui Yuan. “We can only achieve absolute freedom by rebuilding the Blood City. I will head to the investigation centre next. I will need your help.”
It was not a wish but a discussion. Gao Ming waited for Gui Yuan to react, but the latter didn’t do anything but smile at Gao Ming creepily.
“You can tell me what you think.” Gao Ming raised his hand to touch Gui Yuan. Gui Yuan didn’t put up any defences. The feeling from his palm was very special. It felt like he had touched a soft and changing heart. Gao Ming could sense the chaotic voices inside it. It consisted of different wishes. Most of them were tainted by shadow and blood. There were no rules or unified thoughts. The heart changed based on the wishes.
“Rebuilding Blood City, and all the lives in Han Hai will be reborn, including you.” Gao Ming kept persuading him. However, when the anomaly faded away, the parents finally responded, “Your wish has already come true.”
“Wish? My wish?”
The father disappeared. The mother stayed in the torture room to stay with Gao Ming forever. The horror that covered South City was split into two. Half stayed in the wish makers’ hearts while the other half remained in Gao Ming’s heart. The cartoon characters on the wall returned to normal. The smell of sweets returned. All the children started to slumber.
“Have you succeeded?” The leader of Team One finally walked over. The pressure of the Dream Ghost was too imposing. Other than Gao Ming, everyone felt like they had been shredded.
“How shall I put this? I want to borrow three thousand from someone. The person split half of his assets and gave them to me because I look like their child.” Gao Ming’s words confused the man. He eventually understood it after some explanation.
“That sounds great, but it doesn’t look like those people will let you leave so easily.” Wang Jie glanced at the people in grey uniform. Their faces turned as grey as their clothes. They were too scared.
Wang Jie wanted to laugh. Gao Ming easily completed the goal that his eldest uncle was unable to achieve. He turned to the hidden cameras. “Who would have thought this Dream Ghost would be from the same family as Gao Ming? Then again, the old city is the base of the horror game players. I pity the fool who sacrificed so many things and got away with nothing.”
