Hold On Mr.! Your Sweetheart is a Real Queen

Chapter 817: You’re So Poor!

Chapter 817: You’re So Poor!

They went downstairs to pack their luggage.

Charlotte didn’t bring much, just a bank card and a change of clothes. Janet, noticing she hadn’t brought anything else, paused in surprise and asked curiously, "You’re only taking these two things?"

Charlotte put the bank card into her close-fitting pocket and then checked her passport. She didn’t say anything, but when she left, she placed the keys inside the room.

Charlotte’s car was still parked at the door, but the window had been smashed with a rock, leaving a huge hole; the inside was in a mess and anything valuable had been stolen.

Janet gasped in shock and said painfully, "My car!"

Charlotte opened an umbrella to shield her head from the dull sunlight and said to Janet, "Hurry up."

The area was mostly populated by people from Asia and Africa. The security was acceptable during the day, but at night it became dangerous with people gathering to use drugs. She went to the door to buy breakfast while Janet stood beside her. Seeing the roasted bun pulled out from the iron barrel, she was quite surprised and said from behind, "So this is what we eat every day."

Charlotte glanced at her. Even though Janet was wearing Charlotte’s clothes and seemed simple in her appearance, her every word and action carried an air of someone who’d never tasted the struggles of life. If left alone, she might still count the money after being conned.

She told Janet, "Don’t talk."

"..." Janet widened her eyes at her, then asked somewhat aggrievedly, "Did I say something wrong again?"

Charlotte didn’t know what to say, so she handed the roasted bun to her, "Eat first."

Then she went to a nearby convenience store to buy some bottled water and bread for the road.

Charlotte came over, looking at the plastic bag in Janet’s hand with disdain, "Why did you come to a place like this?"

A small place, not much good food, roads covered in dust.

If not for...

Charlotte glanced at her, handing her the plastic bag, and said, "Did I ask you to come?"

Janet was taken aback, bit her lip, and stayed silent.

They walked for another half hour before reaching the town’s only bus station.

They waited for another long while before getting on the bus.

The bus was crowded with locals heading to the city for work. Charlotte wrapped a scarf around both of their faces and turned her head to look outside.

Everyone here was poor. If she wanted to make a decent living, she would have to tear up her passport and completely obscure her whereabouts, which would mean spending a few more years in this tiny country.

But it wasn’t much of a hardship. No amount of hardship was new to her.

She turned to look at Janet, who sat next to her holding a piece of bread, already asleep.

Then she chuckled silently.

Who would have thought Robert would like this type?

A day and a night later.

They finally arrived at the most prosperous area of the country—the capital.

Looking at the bustling traffic, Janet seemed to finally feel a bit familiar, glancing around eagerly.

She seemed eager to leave, but Charlotte held her and said coldly, "It’s not time for you to leave yet."

Janet pouted, "I just want to see where we’ll be staying tonight."

Charlotte replied, "I don’t have the money for you to stay at a fancy hotel."

"You’re too poor!" Janet said in surprise.

Charlotte really wanted to leave her there and let her fend for herself.

The hospital was still far from here, and she really didn’t want to take a bus, so she extravagantly hailed a taxi.

Sitting in the car, that dull feeling came back, and Charlotte slightly furrowed her brows, turning her head to avoid letting Janet see her worrisome expression.
