Chapter 809: Biting Back When Cornered
Chapter 809: Biting Back When Cornered
Charlotte never expected Janet would find her here.
However, her whereabouts were not really a difficult secret to uncover for people like them.
Charlotte was silent for a few seconds, then walked forward.
Janet seemed to have come alone. When Charlotte went to the supermarket, she hadn’t locked the door, not anticipating she’d just walk right in.
"Miss Smith, have you been living here alone for the past month?"
The beautiful woman followed her, a deep smile on her face and in her tone, speaking as if they were friends for many years.
Charlotte quietly put the newly purchased steak into the fridge, then went to the kitchen to wash her hands, and poured Janet a cup of warm water.
The house she rented was a standalone, two floors, with rent equivalent to only a hundred US Dollars a month. Small places had their own advantages, allowing her to live comfortably with the money she earned from her part-time job.
"Thank you." Janet took the glass with a sweet smile, but perhaps due to concerns about the local food, she didn’t drink from it, just held it in her hand.
Charlotte knew she had something to say, she sat on the sofa, silently watching her.
Janet was Robert Stephens’ official girlfriend, so whatever she came to say was expected, yet Charlotte couldn’t help feeling a bit unsettled.
"Miss Smith, to be honest, Robert and I are planning to get engaged next month."
Miss Madison understood the key to negotiation well, starting with a bombshell, causing Charlotte’s eyes to narrow sharply, unable to find her voice as she stared at the smiling Janet before her.
Janet stood from the sofa, placed the glass on the coffee table, walked to the window, looked at the dim scenery outside, and smiled.
"I fell in love with Robert at first sight, to be honest, I’m very happy to have an outcome with him."
Charlotte looked at her elegant silhouette, she smiled with visible happiness apparent in her demeanor.
"Then let me congratulate you first." Charlotte said lightly.
Janet chuckled softly, turning her head to look at Charlotte: "Miss Smith, don’t joke around. You’re a smart and perceptive person, so let’s be frank with each other." She smiled with red lips, speaking softly, "To be honest, after you left, I investigated the health report you had at the hospital. Of course, if it weren’t for that report, I wouldn’t have wanted to find you here..."
Her voice trailed off, making her final words sound somewhat significant.
Charlotte sat there, slightly bewildered.
It wasn’t strange that Janet found her, she just thought how fate truly rendered one helpless.
It felt like destiny, she couldn’t bring this child into the world, no matter what way she tried to keep it, there would always be someone to stop her through various means.
Charlotte whispered, "What if I’m not willing?"
Her tone was mild, not a question.
Her response seemed to surprise Janet for a moment.
She looked over with some surprise, her beautiful eyes filled with curiosity.
Charlotte said, "To be honest, I’ve already decided that no matter the cost, I will give birth to it."
Janet couldn’t help but laugh: "You..."
She had barely uttered a word when her body, which was originally standing by the window, suddenly went limp and collapsed to the ground.
At that moment, Janet was truly shocked as she lay on the ground, staring in disbelief at Charlotte who slowly stood up from the sofa, then took a tissue to wrap the cup she just held and threw it into the trash can.
