Hold On Mr.! Your Sweetheart is a Real Queen

Chapter 540: You care about me, I am very happy.

Chapter 540: You care about me, I am very happy.

In the afternoon, Daisy finished her work for the day, sent Elena Raven’s schedule for tomorrow to her email, and then called Edward Stephens to ask if he had time to join her for dinner.

The man replied rather reservedly, "Sure."

A few minutes later, he sent another message, "Just downstairs of your company, hurry up."

Sitting in her office chair, she turned her head and glanced down, and sure enough, saw the man’s black Bentley parked at the entrance, unaware of when it had arrived.

It was rush hour, and at the entrance of Royal Entertainment, employees were coming and going. The silver Bentley emblem always drew a few lingering glances.

Sometimes Daisy thought that she might be too ostentatious with her "affair" recently.

Too unconcealed.

The Shelton family might already know about her "affair" with the Stephens’ CEO, but no one had come to subtly inquire about it. Businesspeople prioritize interests above all else; even if Elder Shelton knew something, as long as it benefited the Shelton family, he’d probably just turn a blind eye.

James Shelton was a lost cause. If she could smooth out the Shelton family’s business path for the next twenty years, no one in the family would likely criticize her current behavior.

Still, even so, her current approach could only be described as "blinded by lust."

It’s almost as if she’s about to bring Edward Stephens into the household formally.

Sigh.

Daisy shut down her computer, sighed in worry, and quickly replied with her slender fingers tapping on the screen, "I’m coming down, why the rush."

"But I’m hungry."

"Coming, coming."

...

At the Western restaurant.

While waiting for the steak, Daisy poured the man half a glass of red wine, then curiously asked, "Are you planning to stay in Tsing City for a long time?"

Counting the days, it seemed like he’d been there for half a year already.

Half a year ago, she definitely didn’t imagine her relationship with him would progress to this stage.

The man blinked lightly, his fair fingers slowly swirling the wine glass, "Why, are you so eager for me to leave?"

He said it nonchalantly, yet Daisy could sense the emotion in his words.

She soothed him, "Not at all. I’m just worried you’ve been away for too long and might neglect your work."

"I’m not the only one managing my family," the man explained lightly, "Even if I’m away for a year, the company won’t go bankrupt."

So both you and your brothers came out?

I really don’t get you guys.

"So you could stay here for another six months?"

Edward glanced at her lightly and slowly said, "If you really can’t bear to part with me, why not come back to Chicago with me? You can even bring your little friend."

"You want to promote Elena Raven?"

"That works too." He looked at her, gently tapping his transparent glass, making a crisp knocking sound, "Think about it."

Daisy shook her head with a smile, "I can promote her myself, no need to trouble you."

Edward looked away without any reaction to her refusal. Once the steak was brought in, he suddenly asked, "Has Emma Magus come looking for you lately?"

"Her?" Daisy was taken aback, "What would she come looking for me for?"

Edward observed her expression, shook his head, "It’s fine if she hasn’t come." After a pause, "I wasn’t the one who released her."

Daisy blinked slowly, understanding Edward’s meaning.

"You’re saying it wasn’t you who lifted the ban on her?"

"She approached my brother." The man cut the steak and placed it on her plate, "Since he wants to help her, I can’t really do anything about it."

Initially, his retaliation against the eldest daughter of the Ling family, an ally of the Stephens for a century, had no proper justification; it’s just that no one dared to come and demand he stop.

Since Robert Stephens intervened, it wasn’t right for him to continue.

But for Emma Magus, he was sure it was a heart-wrenching lesson.

"Your brother..." Daisy bit the steak, nodded, and didn’t say much.

"Are you angry?"

Edward suddenly asked.

"Huh?" She was confused for a moment, "Why would I be angry?"

The man’s deep black eyes looked at her, speaking calmly, "Because I let her go."

"..." Daisy reached over and pinched the man’s face hard.

He winced slightly from the pain, his brows furrowed slightly—was she really that angry?

"What are you thinking," Daisy said with a helpless smile, "How could I be angry? You offended the Ling family because of me, I wanted to tell you to stop long ago. In fact, it’s nothing serious, I wasn’t really hurt, the concussion has long healed. You banned her for two months, which was enough for her to suffer. Since your brother helped her, he obviously feels it’s enough."

Edward said, "I don’t care."

Whether or not he offended the Ling family, he couldn’t care less. Also, he hadn’t really forgiven Emma Magus, and even if she sincerely apologized to Daisy, he wouldn’t easily let the matter go.

"You..." He said ambiguously, not knowing why Daisy understood his meaning.

"I’m really not that important," she said with a gentle laugh, "Don’t make life difficult for yourself at home because of me."

"I don’t care." He averted his gaze, cut a piece of steak, and his tone grew more indifferent, "Those matters have nothing to do with me. I didn’t decide to inherit the family business out of love for it."

Back then, he compromised to return to the Stephens family so he could be with Daisy.

She might never understand what he sacrificed back then to keep her with him.

He didn’t like hearing her casually say, "I’m really not that important."

It made his past sacrifices seem so cheap.

...

Daisy clearly felt the man’s demeanor cool down.

She bit her tongue, feeling a bit slow, realizing that she had said the wrong thing.

It wasn’t her intention; she just wished he could have an easier time in his career. She also worked in business, knowing it’s more important to have friends than enemies in the market.

Why offend an entire family for her?

Sigh.

Daisy sighed softly in her heart.

What should I do?

The closer she got, the more her heart stirred.

Knowing she shouldn’t, yet still unable to resist wanting to lose herself in this tenderness.

She always felt her heart was already scarred, but Edward had patched it up so she could continue loving him.

"Edward."

She softly called his name, smiling at him.

The man was evidently still angry with her, glancing at her but not really responding.

"I was wrong." She spoke gently, her exquisitely gentle eyes filled with warmth, "It makes me very happy that you care about me."

"..."

"But, I hope you can care a bit more about yourself."

"..."

"I don’t want you to get hurt because of me. Really."
