Chapter 528: Too absurd
Chapter 528: Too absurd
"George."
She pulled herself together and forced a smile at the child, trying to win some favor. She knew that Robert Stephens was very fond of this child.
The child looked at her with an expressionless face, quickly withdrew his gaze, completely ignored her, and went straight back to his room.
Thomas Woods closed the main door and said to Emma Magus with a smile, "George has been spoiled by the master, Miss Magus, don’t mind him. He’s the same with me."
Emma Magus nodded and agreed, "George is very cute."
Thomas smiled, said no more, and just guided Emma Magus to Robert Stephens’ study.
The temperature in Robert’s study seemed even hotter than outside. As soon as Emma stepped in, she felt sweat dripping from her pores.
Does he really work in such a hot place?
She couldn’t help but glance at the man sitting in the office chair. Seeing his snowy white skin and the refined and elegant features completely devoid of sweat, she was slightly taken aback.
Could she just be too sensitive to heat?
"Emma."
The warm male voice rang out, pulling Emma Magus instinctively back to reality.
She looked up and met his delicate, smiling eyes.
He was also an extremely handsome man, bearing some resemblance to Edward Stephens. Unfortunately...
She thought of the legs hidden behind the desk and felt a tinge of regret.
If he hadn’t had that car accident years ago, the Stephens family wouldn’t have ended up with Edward in charge.
This man had a good personality and good looks; it’s just a pity that he’s physically disabled.
"Brother Stephens," Emma Magus said, "can you help me call Edward?"
She asked him hopefully.
"Sit." He lifted his chin, indicating for her to sit down, and then said, "Why don’t you tell me what happened with him, so I can advise you."
Emma hurriedly sat down in the chair in front of him.
She only hesitated for a moment before recounting everything that happened in the woods that day, along with how Edward Stephens had ostracized her because of Daisy Ginger.
By the end, she couldn’t help but cry with grievance.
"Brother Stephens, don’t you think he’s gone too far? Bullying me like that for a married woman. Even if I were at fault, if I have to apologize to her, where will I put my face in the future?"
Robert’s eyes flickered slightly. He looked up at Emma Magus: "Did you say Daisy Ginger is already married?"
Emma Magus hadn’t expected he didn’t know, and was stunned for a moment before quickly saying, "Yes! Brother Stephens, I heard that woman has been married for three years! The whole of Tsing City knows about it; you can ask around!"
Robert truly didn’t know that Daisy Ginger was already married.
His reason for coming to Tsing City was actually quite simple—to bring George to see Edward Stephens.
Over the years, due to health reasons, he had gradually ceded authority to Edward, transferring the Stephens name to him. In the past four years, Edward hadn’t let him down and did exceptionally well.
Edward seemed to be naturally able to learn anything effortlessly; there was nothing he couldn’t handle when handed to him.
A once-in-a-century genius.
Yet, ironically, he was utterly childish when it came to love, besotted with a woman who didn’t reciprocate his feelings.
Coming to Tsing City and seeing Edward entangled with Daisy again, he felt a little impatient.
But he understood that, no matter how much they tangled, the two couldn’t truly be together. First, although Edward wasn’t married, he already had George, and second, Daisy’s mother had died because of him. Even if Daisy genuinely liked Edward, she couldn’t resolve this knot in her heart.
He just hadn’t expected that Daisy was already married.
She was already married, yet his brother was reigniting dead coal and relentlessly pursuing her.
It truly is...
Too ridiculous.
