Chapter 361 - 390: She Returned Home

"...Hmm." Daisy Ginger hesitated for a moment, then said softly, "Let’s just take a tour of the city first. I’ll tell you where to go once I decide."

The driver glanced at her, a bit puzzled, but he had encountered customers like this before in his career, so he didn’t ask any questions and drove off.

While Daisy Ginger was leisurely sightseeing in Chicago, the entire city’s traffic, accommodation, hospitals, and even aviation were under unprecedented stress due to Edward Stephens’ orders.

The news even reached Robert Stephens’ bamboo garden, making the resting man’s face slightly gloomy. Charlotte Smith, attending to him, noticed the hint of menace in his eyes and nervously broke into a cold sweat.

...

"Looks like there’s a jam ahead on the highway," the driver gradually slowed down, peered curiously out the window, "No idea what’s going on, but we can’t get through."

Daisy Ginger yawned lazily; the sky was already darkening, and she had been in the car all afternoon, feeling exhausted.

She turned her head to glance at the long line of cars outside, seeing people inspecting each vehicle at the checkpoint.

It seemed impossible to leave the city today.

"Maybe there’s an escapee," Daisy Ginger quipped casually, "Let’s head back to the city." She was a bit hungry and wanted to grab a bite to eat first.

"OK!" The driver was in a great mood and turned back towards the city.

Daisy Ginger hadn’t gotten out of the car all afternoon, watching the fare climb higher and higher, which delighted the driver.

Long drives are the most profitable.

After more than two hours, they returned to downtown Chicago.

Daisy Ginger paid, grabbed her bag, and got out of the car.

Not far away were various restaurants, and feeling like she could eat a whole cow, she randomly entered a steakhouse.

Behind her, Edward Stephens’ black Bentley zoomed past.

"Check, please."

After eating her fill, Daisy Ginger went alone to a nearby KFC to get a cone.

She strolled around the street for a while, then sat on a random bench, nibbling on the cone as she observed the city slowly brightening up again.

She felt more relaxed than ever.

After finishing the cone, she dusted off her skirt, stood up from the bench, and casually hailed a car, giving the driver an address.

By the time Edward Stephens returned to the Stephens family home, Daisy Ginger had already been home for over half an hour.

He had searched frantically all afternoon and was now looking grim as he entered, with the staff in his room unaware of what had happened, startled by their master’s appearance, and quickly making way.

Edward Stephens, saying nothing, ascended the stairs with a heavy heart, only stopping at the bedroom door.

After an afternoon of exhausting effort and anxious worry, Daisy Ginger had simply and casually made it back home.

His once calm heartbeat now pounded erratically. Pressing his forehead against the cold door panel, he took a deep breath and only entered once he’d calmed down a bit.

The bedroom light was on, and the woman who had occupied his thoughts all afternoon was sitting on the window ledge, one leg bent, the other hanging naturally, casually playing a game on her phone.

The cartoonish sounds from her phone broke the silence in the room, adding a touch of lightheartedness to the tranquility.
