Chapter 46 Hooligans

Chapter 46 Hooligans

KIA

"Mi-miaree!"

Miaree's unexpected actions left everyone in shock. It was hard to believe he was even conscious at this point, given the bleeding from his head.

"You, despicable person! How dare you strike my head?"

He was about to approach Miaree when she suddenly menaced the frog-like man with a broken glass bottle, her eyes devoid of emotion. It was as though I didn't recognize her, and she appeared unfazed by the blood flowing from the man's head. Her menacing stare sent shivers down my spine.

"Why not? You're interfering with our meal. You deserve it - in fact, you deserve worse. Want another taste of this bottle against your head?"

"You're insane!"

"Yes, I am. Let me be clear, if my friend is harmed today, there will be dire consequences. I'll ensure you rest six feet under. Do we understand each other?"

The frog-like man suddenly collapsed, and his comrades gathered around him. As their attention shifted, Miaree grabbed my hand, and we hastily retreated. But before we could exit the restaurant, he caught sight of us making our escape.

"No way! I won't be bested by these two young girls! Let me be, you fools! Stop those women! Stop them! I'll make them beg me to release them!"

We began to run, but I stumbled and fell just a few yards from our starting point, a sharp pain shooting through my ankle. I could sense cold eyes fixed on us, enough to convince me that we were in danger. This path was not unfamiliar; I traversed it daily after work as a shortcut, avoiding neighboring subdivisions. It was a dimly lit route with hardly any pedestrians, mostly frequented by cyclists. It was just us and the mysterious, ominous figures trailing us.

I couldn't help but chuckle at my fear, which was causing intense trembling and a throbbing migraine. My throat hurt, and I realized I was shouting for help at the top of my lungs, but there was no response except for the pounding of my heart, deafeningly loud. Sweat streamed down my face.

"Don't run!"

"Stop!"

I glanced back, and they were still in pursuit. Exhausted, I couldn't run any longer.

"Kianna, move quickly! This way!" Miaree urged, and following her lead, we ended up at a dead end.

"Oh, no! Dead end!"

I heard someone approaching slowly from behind, their laughter echoing. "Why did you stop running?"

"Don't even think about coming any closer!" Miaree retorted, her face devoid of fear and remarkably composed.

"You dared to make me bleed, and now you're fleeing? Do you think I'll let you escape? It's time for both of you to pay!"

"Hey, hey, how about we have some fun tonight, boss?"

"These two ladies are incredibly attractive!"

All we could do was step back. "Stop! Don't say I didn't warn you! If you provoke me, you won't get away!" Miaree warned.

I felt helpless, standing beside Miaree, tears streaming down my face, shivering with fear. I wished Ares were here, but I hadn't told him where I was. Is this going to be the end for us?

"Hold her!" the frog-like man commanded his men, and they immediately grabbed Miaree.

The frog-like man seized my hand, cornering me against the wall. "Let go of me! I'm calling the police!"

"Release her!" Miaree screamed.

"Shut up, you!"

"Relax, I'll treat you nicely," he said, his hand creeping toward my waist.

...Why do I always find myself in situations like this? Ares, help me! I need you...

I closed my eyes and began to pray, but suddenly, I felt something wet on my neck. When I opened my eyes, I saw the frog-like man licking my neck.

"Come on, just raise your voice! We're in a dead zone anyway, and this happens to be my territory. No one's coming to rescue you if you scream-"

"Ahem, did someone call my name?"

Suddenly, a man appeared wearing all black, even his shoes. I tried to glimpse his face but noticed he was wearing a mask.

"I heard screaming. Who are you guys meeting secretly with those girls over there?" said the man who appeared after the man in black.

...Who are these people?...

"Wait, how about we settle this with money? How much do you want?"

"Why are you here? Mind your own business, kids!"

"I'm just trying to help. You release them, and I'll give you some money. How about that?"

"Don't play the hero, or I'll teach you a lesson-"

"Do you know who I am? I'm Dave Kean-never mind, you don't deserve to know my name-"

Before Dave could finish speaking, the man in black rushed at the man holding Miaree and dragged him towards a trash can by the neck.

"Calm down!" Dave exclaimed and hurried over to them.

"Damn it! Attack them! Beat them up!" the man resembling a frog ordered his henchmen.

Dave's fists made quick work of them, leaving the guy crying and begging. His voice trembled. "Don't kill me, don't kill me-" But the man in black suddenly kicked him, knocking him unconscious.

"Haha! Hey, that's mine!" Dave remarked.

"What a bunch of idiots! Finish them off!"

The man in black grinned wickedly, while the other four produced sharp daggers from their pockets. With no escape and no chance against all five of them, I closed my eyes.

Then I heard a thud. I opened my eyes to find all the men on the ground, blood oozing from the backs of their heads. The frog-like man who had me against the wall had left to confront the man in black, Dave. I slid to the ground, watching in amazement as they fell one by one. Soon, they were all either dead or unconscious; I couldn't tell, but they weren't moving.

Miaree rushed over and helped me up. "Miaree, were those guys your bodyguards?" I whispered.

"What? No, I didn't know them! But they look familiar," she replied.

Suddenly, a man named Dave approached. I thought he was coming towards me, but he whispered something in Miaree's ear. "I'm out of here. Make sure they get home safely, bro!" Dave said and left as if nothing had happened.

The man in black removed his mask, and we were both stunned when we realized who he was.

"What the heck? Nate?" I exclaimed.

"Nathan?" Miaree said.

"Did they harm you?" he asked.

"No, they just-Miaree, let's go home." I grabbed her hand and looked at Nate, waiting for him to speak, but he just stood there.

"Thank you, Nate! I don't know how we'll ever repay you after you and your friend saved us-"

"What friend?" he interrupted.

"That guy named Dave?"

"He's not my friend. I came here alone. I don't know who he is," Nate replied.

While we were talking, another man appeared, seemingly looking for Miaree. He might have been her bodyguard.

"My lady, are you okay? Master asked us to pick you up. He's waiting for you in the car over there."

Miaree smiled and nodded, "Alright, thank you, Nathan. If it weren't for you, Kianna and I could have been in trouble. Please walk Kianna home. It might be dangerous for her alone. Kianna, my uncle's here; I have to go. Text me when you get home, okay? Nathan Zac! Kianna's in your hands!" Miaree said and left me with Nate.

There was silence, and I didn't attempt to look at Nate. I just started walking.

"Well, everyone's gone. I'll drive you home. Hey, why are you walking so fast? Wait for me!" he said, following closely.

"It's better to get out of here quickly. Some of those guys might come back. We don't want to take any chances."

"Don't worry, I'll keep you safe..."

...Keep me safe? Why does that sound significant?...
