His Untold Lies

Chapter 24 Engineering Department

Chapter 24 Engineering Department

Kia

Our first class had concluded, and I stretched my body before rising from my seat and preparing to exit the room. As I was heading towards the cafeteria, my professor unexpectedly approached me.

"Ms. Saavedra, I heard you don't have any classes in the afternoon. Could you assist me with something?"

"Uh, yes, ma'am. How can I help you?"

"Well, I have an urgent meeting with the dean, but unfortunately, I still have a class scheduled. So, I came up with an idea. I believe you could act as a substitute for me."

"A substitute, ma'am? But I don't know anything about their major subjects..."

"Don't worry. Your role will be to supervise them and ensure they remain quiet while I'm in my meeting. It's just a one-hour meeting, and I'll be there as soon as it concludes. They are expecting an exam from me, so you'll simply need to distribute the test papers and keep an eye on them. Remember, no cheating or talking during the exam, so you must vigilantly watch over them."

It appeared that she had already made up her mind. Did I even have a choice in this matter?

"Um... Yes, ma'am."

"Great! Then I'll see you in the Civil Engineering Section A. Their classroom is on the first floor of the engineering department." With that, she left me.

Did I hear that correctly? Civil Engineering Section A? It seemed like yet another complication in my day. I immediately made my way to the cafeteria in search of Miaree and Marcy. However, only Miaree was present in our usual spot.

"Why did you take so long?" Miaree inquired.

"Mrs. Vega asked for my help. By the way, where's Marcy?"

"He was called by the SSG president. They're having a meeting about an event, I think. Anyway, why did Mrs. Vega ask for your help?" Miaree asked as she grabbed her sandwich and began eating, awaiting my response.

"...Well, she requested me to be her substitute-"

"Substitute? Does that mean you'll be teaching other departments? Is that even allowed?" Miaree wondered.

I clarified, "No, she said I'd just need to oversee her students while they take their exams."

"Well, that's easy. Do you want me to come with you? I don't have anything to do after this," Miaree offered.

"Are you sure? I'll be heading to Civil Engineering Section A-"

"What?!" Miaree exclaimed suddenly, causing me to instinctively cover her mouth. "What? But isn't Nathan Zac Ramirez from that section? Are you still going?" she whispered.

"Yes, if you come with me..."

She regarded me with sympathy, as if I were the unluckiest person on Earth. "Will you come with me?" I repeated my question.

"I can't let anyone bully or tease you there, so... yes!"

I hugged her and planted a kiss on her cheek. "Thank you, Miaree! Oh, right! I almost forgot to tell you this."

"What is it?"

"Did you know that Vince waited for me in front of the department this morning? He was interrogating me about Ares, questioning why I married a man with that kind of lifestyle. He even had the audacity to claim he's better than Ares-"

"Better than Ares!" Miaree interjected, rolling her eyes.

"Exactly! So arrogant! He suggested that he could help me with my dad's company crisis if I married him. As if! I would never do that, not even if they threatened me!"

"I can't believe he's still hung up on you after everything he's done! He cheated, and now he expects you to go back to him? Who the heck does he think he is? He's just a piece of crap in my book!"

"Lower your voice! Do you want the whole world to hear?" I said, covering her mouth.

"Okay, okay, I got it! I'll keep it down. Yeah, Kianna, it hurts! Let me go!" she playfully exclaimed, pretending to cry as I pinched her lips. "I don't understand what's going on in his head. He's so full of himself!"

"Yeah, I can't even begin to reach that level of arrogance. I'm fed up with him being such an arrogant little jerk! But forget it, I'm not in the mood to dwell on that... Turns out my dad wants to exchange my marriage for his career..." I sighed, resting my head on her shoulder.

"Kia, my uncle has many connections. What if I ask him for help?"

"Oh, no, don't bother him. Besides, you have your fair share of problems too. I don't want to burden you with mine. Just being here and supporting me means the world. Thank you, Miaree..."

I was taken aback when she suddenly hugged me tightly and said, "Of course, I'll be here for you! I'm your best friend. I'd marry you if I were a man!"

My eyes widened. "Why?"

"Because your... assets are so impressive, I can feel them on my face!" she burst into laughter.

"You maniac!"

...

The Engineering Department

With the test papers in hand, we entered the engineering department and quickly located the room for Section A of civil engineers-it was the first room on the left. While we were still playfully debating who would enter first, Miaree and I ended up pushing each other, and her unexpected shove propelled me into the room. All eyes turned toward me, and I stood up straight, signaling for Miaree to follow.

I stepped forward and began introducing myself, "Good afternoon, I am Kianna Myst Saavedra-"

"Aren't you Nate's rumored girlfriend?" a man in front of me interrupted.

The room erupted into teasing and loud chatter. Moments later, a loud bang silenced them.

"Quiet down! Keep your voices down, or you'll leave this class with a failing mark on your test paper. Now, pick your seats," Miaree declared, effectively silencing everyone and directing them to their assigned places.

"Now, Kianna, continue," Miaree said while looking at me. She was amazing!

"Anyway, as I mentioned earlier, I am Kianna Myst Saavedra Vuertalejo, and yes, I am already married. So, please stop teasing Mr. Ramirez; I am not his girlfriend. Right, Mr. Ramirez?" I glanced at him. He maintained a serious, expressionless demeanor.

"You're right."

"Did everyone hear that? Okay, so we're here to observe while you guys take your exams. Ma'am Vega said that cheating and talking during your exams are prohibited, so you better keep your mouths shut while we're here. Is everyone ready?"

No one answered verbally, but they followed the rules by maintaining silence as Miaree and I watched over them. Ugh, so boring.

"Here, take one and pass it down," I said while handing out test papers to the first row.

For what felt like an eternity, the room remained in complete silence, save for the loud ticking of the clock right above me. I moved slowly around the classroom, glancing at each student as they diligently tackled their exams. After about half an hour, Miaree suddenly had to leave, citing urgent matters. I was left alone in the room with these robotic students, and all I could do was watch them. It was excruciatingly dull.

Nate stood up and approached me to turn in his paper. However, before he could say anything, I simply pointed to the tray on the desk. After submitting his paper, he gave me one last look and said, "I'll wait for you outside." With that, he left the dreaded classroom.

What's going on with him?

Time passed, and Mrs. Vega eventually entered the room. She took over the class, allowing me to leave. But before I could exit, she handed me a snack. You can't refuse a blessing!

As I walked, I noticed Nate leaning against a wall. What the heck! He really did wait for me...

"Why are you still here?" I asked. He turned his head to look at me.

"Waiting for you. Let's go," he replied and began walking, leaving me trailing behind.

What's his deal?

I jogged to catch up and walked beside him, "Why did you wait for me?"

"To drive you home-"

"Kia!"

Ares' voice suddenly rang out. I looked ahead and saw him standing in front of the gate.

"Let me take the lead," Nate remarked as he proceeded toward his vehicle.

What had prompted his unusual behavior?

I hurried over to Ares and embraced him. "Who's that?" he inquired.

"Nathan," I replied, "he's offering me a ride back home."

Ares responded with little reaction. He simply nodded and drove us to a restaurant for dinner before heading home.
