Chapter 87
Chapter 87
In the dark, the man hissed in pain.
He wrapped his other arm around Annette's waist.
Annette was frightened. She shouted desperately, "Let go of me!"
She almost shifted and attacked the person.
The man said, "Don't scream. It's me."
Hearing the familiar voice, Annette quickly stopped.
"Connor?"
Since she stopped struggling, Connor let go.
Annette turned on the light.
She was shocked to see Connor.
Connor pressed his left shoulder with his right hand and said, "You are so ruthless."
Annette rushed forward and asked worriedly, "Are you OK?"
"What do you think?" Connor looked down at the dumbbell on the ground and said, "You hit me with such a heavy thing. My shoulder must be broken."
Annette helped him up and panicked. She said, "I'll take you to the hospital."
Connor pulled her into his arms.
She struggled and said, "Not now, let's go to the hospital first."
"I'm not going to the hospital," Connor said. He smelled like alcohol.
Annette frowned and said, "Didn't you say you gave me all the keys? Why do you still have one?"
"All is fair in war. You are probably the only one who will believe it."
Annette looked up at him and said, "Is this something worth showing off?"
"Of course. An egghead with a high IQ like you actually lowered your guard against me and even trusted me. I feel quite proud of it."
Annette curled her lips. "I won't believe you again."
Connor hugged her tighter. "I won't lie to you again."
"Give me the key," Annette said as she reached out her hand.
"No."
Annette wanted to break free from Connor's embrace, but he hissed in pain.
She said nervously, "Are you OK? Let's go to the hospital, okay?"
"No." Connor let go of her and sat down by the bed. "Help me massage it."
"I can't. What if I hurt your bones?"
Connor said, "It's not that serious. I am Alpha. Have you forgotten?"
Annette shook her head firmly.
Connor smiled. He stood up and hugged Annette. When she struggled, he fell backward with her.
They both fell onto the soft bed.
Annette exclaimed, while Connor hugged her tightly and smelled her scent.
"Don't move. Let me hug you for a while." Connor's wolf was restless.
Annette frowned and said, "Connor, you lied to me. Your shoulder is fine, right?"
Connor did not make a sound.
Annette said unhappily, "Connor, you tricked me."
"I told you. All is fair in war."
"But you also said that you wouldn't lie to me again."
"Speaking of which, you are so vigilant," Connor interrupted her and changed the topic.
Annette was silent for a moment. "I'm just scared."
"What? Have you encountered the same situation before? Have you been robbed at home?" Connor asked.
Annette felt a little bitter. "Not only did I encounter a thief, but also the bandit of the Black Thorn Pack."
She shook her head and said, "Forget it. It's all in the past. There's no point mentioning it again."
Connor rubbed her hair and said, "Tell me. I want to know."
Annette thought for a moment and said, "Back then, Lance always came to pester my mother, but my mother didn't want to get involved with him. Perhaps because he felt mad or had no way to vent his anger, he sneaked into my house one night. My mother found him and wanted to drive him away. He was angry and raped my mother."
Annette's body trembled with anger as she recalled the past.
Connor frowned. "Did you hear that?"
"Yes."
Connor was silent. Lance was such a bastard.
"When I was sixteen, my mother's condition of depression got worse. During that time, I slept in the same room as her at night. I remember it clearly. One night, I was sleeping when my mother suddenly woke me up. She whispered in my ear that she heard someone in the living room.
"I listened carefully. There was indeed a sound, and the door of the bedroom was quietly opened.
"My mother said to the person, 'I beg you two things. First, don't take off your mask so that I won't see your face. Second, I won't call the police. You can take whatever you want and leave quickly. Don't hurt us.'
"The person probably did not expect my mother to say so. He put down the knife in his hand and even turned on the light. He took away the valuable things in our house in front of us and left.
"Because of that, I am sensitive to any sound at night. So if you come at night again, you can either call me or knock on the door. I will open the door for you. Don't break in, or you will scare me."
Connor didn't think that she had experienced such things.
"It is so late. I thought that you might have fallen asleep."
Annette was speechless. After all, he did not know her past.
"It is indeed late. Didn't you say that you would come tomorrow night? Why did you come at midnight?"
Connor smiled, "I miss you."
Thinking about the previous news, Annette shrugged and said, "I don't believe it. You must have enjoyed yourself and didn't have time to miss me."
Connor was a little surprised. He asked, "Did you see the news?"
"Of course. I saw it as soon as I turned on my phone."
Connor sniffed her hair and asked, "Are you jealous?"
"No. I just think that it is not appropriate for you to come to my place tonight."
"What should I do? Is it more appropriate to have sex with another woman?"
Annette felt jealous. She said, "Whatever you do, it's up to you."
Connor pulled her into his arms and said, "I'm tired. Let's go to sleep."
Annette frowned. "Are you leaving?"
"Do you think I sneaked into your home just to take a look at you?"
