His Hybrid Mate

Chapter 72

Chapter 72

"Are you really not afraid of Kyle targeting you?"

"I want to see how mean he can be. The more ruthless he is, the easier I can forget everything in the past, so no, I am not afraid," Annette said.

Roxanne sighed. "That's true. If you were to quit as per others' suggestion at this time, then you wouldn't be Annette. I know that you are the perfect illustration of stubbornness."

"Roxanne, anyway, don't worry about me. I'm fine. Actually, I'm not afraid of Kyle at all. I just dislike making simple things complicated. Now that he's here, I guess I just have to deal with whatever comes my way."

"Alright then. If it's too much for you one day, remember, I'm always here for you," Roxanne said.

Annette pursed her lips and smiled, "I know. Thank you."

Just as Annette finished speaking, a figure flashed behind her. Someone put the tray on the table opposite her.

She looked up and saw Marcus.

She said to Roxanne, "Alright then, Roxanne, talk to you later. Bye."

After hanging up the phone, she looked at Marcus, who was eating with his head down.

Marcus asked, "Luna Annette, who were you calling?"

"Eat your food. Don't be a busybody. Also, don't call me that again."

"What are you afraid of? No one else knows who I am. Besides, I have to be a busy body here. After all, I am here on a mission. Just tell me."

  Annette frowned. "What mission?"

"Connor told me to keep an eye on you," Marcus said.

Annette was stunned. She said, "He is so funny."

"You're the first person in the world to call him funny," Marcus said after taking a bite of the potato wedges. "Usually, people will say he is wise and intelligent in front of me, and they call him cold and cruel behind my back. I've never heard anyone call him funny."

Annette had mixed feelings hearing Marcus' words.

  She thought, 'Connor looks cold-blooded.

Yet deep down, he is a warm man.

Some people act nice, yet they are two-faced and always speak ill of people behind their backs. Compared with them, Connor is way better.'

"Luna Annette, it seems that he behaves differently when he is with you," Marcus said.

"He is a good man to begin with. But people fail to see it. So, it's not like what you've said. He doesn't act differently when he is with me. And again, at university, you are not allowed to call me Luna Annette," Annette insisted again.

"Fine. I'll call you Annette when we are here," Marcus said.

Annette nodded. She was about to continue with her food.

However, she was suddenly aware of the attention of the people around her at the table. They were looking at Marcus and her.

Annette thought for a moment and said, "Marcus, don't come over and eat with me anymore, OK?"

  "Why?"

Annette looked at him and thought, 'If I get too close to Marcus, who knows what others might gossip about us?'

"Aren't you worried that others might gossip about us?"

  "Whatever. I don't care."

Annette pondered for a few seconds and threatened, "But I do. My reputation here isn't exactly great, and I have no intention of making it worse."

"Who says that? I asked around. You have a great reputation. You are the campus belle of Werewolf University. I wasn't going to help Connor keep an eye on you at first, but when I saw the way other werewolves looked at you, I changed my mind. I had to help him."

Annette snorted. She stood up and said, "Fine. Do as you like. I'm full. Take your time."

She walked out of the cafeteria to the office building just as Kyle walked out.

  Annette paused for a second.

Kyle glanced at her, and then he coldly averted his eyes from her face and walked past her.

Annette climbed the stairs and entered the building.

Kyle heard the footsteps behind him and stopped to look back at her back.

He clenched his fist slightly, feeling as if his heart was bleeding.

He swore in his heart that he would make Annette regret it.

He wanted Annette back so badly at any cost.

When Annette reached the office door, her colleagues inside were all discussing the policy Kyle had proposed in the morning.

When she was about to open the door, she heard someone mention her name.

"He must be doing it for Annette. Otherwise, why would he come here and do this job? That's so unfair to us."

Sara, who had been quiet, said, "Enough. I don't think Annette is going to enjoy any privilege. I think Kyle is targeting her. Can't you see that? I think we'll be fine if we stay cautious. Let's just leave it at that."

The three in the office began to argue because of Annette and Kyle.

Annette figured that it would be awkward if she went in right now.

Therefore, she simply retracted her hand and turned to leave the office building.

When Annette came home from work in the afternoon, she saw Connor's car in the same spot again.

"Does it sound right to you to hog someone else's parking space every day?" Annette asked.

"Hog? I don't think that's the right word if I've already paid for the spot," Connor said.

She frowned. "What do you mean? You paid for it?"

"Of course. I rented this parking spot for three months."

Annette was speechless. She turned around and was about to go upstairs.

Connor chuckled mischievously behind her. "What is it? Are you upset that I'll only be here for three months?"

After entering the building, Annette looked at Connor. "Connor, is this how you usually flirt with women?"

"What are you talking about? I'm a very decent man."

"What kind of decent man would bring drunk women back home and fool around?"

Connor leaned closer to her and said, "So, are you trying to bring up that night?"

  She blushed.

Fortunately, the elevator arrived, so she walked in hastily.

Seeing how shy she was, Connor felt inexplicably happy.

Just as the elevator doors were about to close, someone suddenly appeared at the door and pressed the button, and the doors opened again.

Seeing Annette and Connor, who looked so intimate with each other in the elevator, the person at the door hesitated to enter.

Annette blushed and quickly pushed Connor away.

With his hands in his pockets, Connor followed her out of the elevator casually. Seeing her flee away, he snickered.
